I'm trying to figure it out and I'm failing. I'm sure there WILL be a visual difference between stones that are roughly 5.3 x 5.3 and 6.0 x 6.0 mm.

They are both excellent performers, triple x, same color (GIA) and similar clarities (VVS1 vs. VVS2). Clearly there is a cost difference, but barring going into someplace IRL and hoping they have these two sizes....I'm not sure how much to factor in the size differences.

Is there anyone that can give me a visual between stones that are *about* those dimensions? I would be ever so grateful.

Per forum rules I cannot link you to the website that I used, but here is a visual approximation of a .6c round vs. a .8c round.
Ring size: 6.5

Hope that helped!

Here's something I saved from a while back, good luck with your project!

For me, stones start to look noticeably 'big' around 0.7ct, so if that is what you would prefer, go with a larger stone. Don't forget about DSS either ;) lol

Personally speaking, I have bought a 0.67 for the other half because it's large enough to satisfy my desire to get a big-looking stone for my lady (because, you know, us (not so) secretly size-obsessed boys would never want anything to look small :? lol) but small enough not to look 'blingy', as she would put it!

Thank you! I've been perusing online charts, but it's hard to visualize when stones are unset. I've been combing through posts on PS looking for a few comparisons too without too much success.

Interesting about stones beginning to look "big" after .7!

Right now I have a .6 and a .94-both in solitaires. There's a huge difference there. I'm wondering where the big "jump" happens. Perhaps it is at that .7 carat-assuming good proportions.

I appreciate all feedback!

I would reiterate that the 0.7 thing is entirely my personal view - I am sure that others think that 'big' starts around 2ct!

I think you would be best to visit a diamond shop (even though you have no intention of purchasing from there) and say that you are looking at what sort of size might suit you for a Christmas present (therefore removing some immediate sales pressure off you). You can then try on different sizes to see where the line is for you :)
