I have a VVS1 diamond, slightly bigger than 1 carat.

If I position the diamond to a certain angle under fluorescent light, I can clearly see many pinpoints in areas around at least 3 prongs (looks a lot to me) with a 10X magnifier. My diamond certificate identifies 2 points and says additional pinpoints not included in the plot.

I read somewhere that diamond clarity is only graded face-up...not sure if this is right. Please educate me on this. If I look at my ring face-up, then I don''t see any of them

What lab is the diamond certified with?

I wish I knew how to look at these things before I bought the ring. Only knew the basic 4Cs then.

Are you sure it isn''t dust or dirt? Even if you think your ring is very clean, it can be holding onto a lot of grime that could look like inclusions. Do you have an ultrasonic? Sometimes I have to clean my ring 3-4 times before it is REALLY clean (especially around the prongs).

I would also suggest cleaning the stone thoroughly. My experienced eye will often not find VVS1-size inclusions with a 10x, so such clear observation makes me think that you are actually seeing some dust on the surface.

Live long,

Sounds like it could be dirt that you are seeing as well. Try cleaning it very well and look again!

I also don't think we've seen pictures of your beauty - got any to share?

It takes a new diamond grader at GIA months at 8 hours a day to be able to find and loupe VVS1 pinpoint. Also VVS1 graded diamonds 99% of the time will not have any pinpoints that can be louped through th top of the diamond. You must be seeing something other then pinpoints.
