Matter of personal taste. A 4-prong will show more of the stone and make it look a little more "square" while a 6-prong will look more "round" but cover more of the stone. A 6-prong is more secure, of course, but most 4-prongs out there are secure enough for everyday wear.
Some people think that a 6-prong makes the stone look bigger, others think that because the metal is all around the stone it looks smaller.
Also, will this be a solitaire or will you have a halo or side stones? Side-stone position and size affect the overall aesthetic and should be considered. Ultimately, neither is "better" and you need to pick what you want - looking at some samples of different settings online and perhaps at the mall may help you choose. If you have no preference, I would get a 6-prong for the added security.
