Everyone always has their own idea of what they want to see when it comes to wedding pictures...parents always love FORMALS because they are old fashioned and that is what they can frame in the house and on the walls for everyone who comes to visit can see etc etc. But I think most brides and grooms now are doing more candids and artsy shots which we adored, things that are more simple or fun...I did 30 minutes before the wedding for anyone to do formals which is when all the parents and groomsmen got theirs done, and then we did ours and the ones with our party right after the wedding for 30 minutes, so the parents all got their favorite shots (we did every formal every which way you could think of) and then the rest of the time it was all candids so it worked out GREAT. We had over 600 final pictures for the proofs, so everyone got something IMO!!

Don''t worry about what anyone else thinks, if you two are happy with the shots and it sounds like you are then that is exactly how it should be!! Congrats!

Rachel: Your pictures are just gorgeous! I think the photographer did a great job of capturing the candid shots that you wanted. Like Mara said everyone will have and voice an opinion on anything you do. In your case I think your in-laws are complaining for no reason. Thanks for sharing! Thanks again for the most lovely comments about the pictures... Mara, you''re right that people have different expectations. My bad assumption was that his parents would either let us know what they preferred or leave us alone. But even now, a few months after the wedding and after getting the pictures, I can''t believe the crap that we''re getting. His parents NOW think that the price that the photographer charged for the session was highway robbery and that they didn''t *get* anything for the fee. They were apparently expecting that everyone would get albums and enlargements as part of the package. That wasn''t the contract that we''d signed. The big mistake on our part was not realizing how pricey the prints get and not negotiating the price of a DVD with all of the images before the event, but.. cripes.

It''s gotten to the point that I don''t really enjoy looking at the pictures anymore. I don''t know how to address how far from reality the in-laws are... I''m really sure they haven''t tried pricing wedding photographers in this area recently and certainly don''t appreciate the things that we did with this photographer. The photographer shoots a lot of band gigs and covers and I was thrilled that she agreed to take the time to shoot our wedding. That sort of reputation and talent, sadly, does cost money.
