If your middle school aged daughter was in this picture and it was emailed to her from someone at her school?

This is actualy happening right now to someone I know.
It was emailed to everyone that is in the picture.
The police are locking down the school on monday and are looking for him now and have advised everyone in the picture to stay home until they find him.
The police were notified of it late friday and are just now tonight doing anything about it.

that is terrifying. HOpefully, this is some kid''s idea of a horrible, horrible joke.
Unfortuately, these days, you cannot assume that.
You said the police are ''looking for him''. Has he run away? I hope they find him before he harms one of them or himself.

oh, and to answer your question, I would definately keep my kid at home, with me...

That is so scary! I really, really hope its just some kid's idea of a sick joke. Even so, I'd call the cops and keep my baby in my sight until that kid was caught by the cops.

ETA and even if it was joke, that child really needs some help. It's as sad as it is scary.

OMG, first I am sorry that you know someone who is going through this Storm. Simply terrifying. If it was my son or daughter I would keep them home until they have the culprit and have a handle on this threat. These days you can't be too careful. It's just beyond words. I hope they get to the bottom of this soon. Could be a stupid hateful prank, but our kids are too precious to us for us to take a chance on their safety. Oh this is sooo upsetting.

That is just horrifying. I''d definitely keep my kids home and might even consider leaving town and visiting family in another state. Seriously, that would scare me and I wouldn''t want my kids in the same state. I hope they catch the tormenter soon and agree that he or she needs some serious help..

That''s terrible! Even if it is some sort of practical joke, the kid who sent it needs a lot of help. I hope that the police find him soon and that everyone''s safe.

thats all the info I have on it at this time.
The news is on it but dunno if it will go beyond the Dallas news or not.

These days you cant not take it seriously.
Unofficial opinion of a psychologist is that there is a very high chance that its a real threat due to some of the details in the picture.

They knew about this on Friday but the parents are just finding out now?? I''d be outraged.

his daughter showed it to him on Friday and he notified the police and the school and they did nothing about it until he called the news crew today and the superintendent of the school district.

Local cops and the school principle are not taking it seriously :{

Its very possible, because the picture is very graphic and descriptive, but some children are just more "expressive" so its really hard to tell. I just hope nobody gets hurt.

Storm, this is horrifying. It''s so graphic & is definitely the result of a sick mind. I don''t understand where all the anger is coming from in these kids. I know there are boys at the public high school here that are being treated for "anger management" and it seems like a growing problem. Our son was getting very moody, writing dark & disturbing thoughts in his journal, etc. We immediately took him out of public school & put him in a private Christian school. He is also seeing a counselor who said that boys don''t know how to deal with anger or express it well. Our son''s mood and outlook have improved so much being around a group of caring Christians and having a therapist to talk to. I pray that they find this young man before he does something terrible.

I''m really surprised. After Columbine, it seems like schools and police are extremely sensitive to any potential threats (at least where I live). I hope that they find him soon.

ABC news is going to run the story.

I am praying for all the families involved. I can''t imagine the terror they must be going through right now.

I would keep my child with me until they caught the person in question. Then I would make it perfectly clear that I wanted to press charges for this making of a terrorist threat. I would not back down. The police are not concerned and neither is the school because it is not one of their children.

I''m sorry that you know someone going through this strm. I''ll pray for you and the families involved.

Storm, please let us know as soon as this deviant is caught! I''m praying God keeps a hedge of protection around these children. I agree with Shay, charges should immediately be filed against the boy who did this. The sooner he learns the consequences of his actions the better off he & society will be!!

I would not only keep my child home from school I would not let them go anywhere with out me or the other parent.
I would also be VERY upset that the school did not take this seriously. Children have proven that they are capable of great acts of violence…why would they risk it?

Even if it was a “prank” past incidences have taught us that pranks and jokes such as this are the forerunners for more serious action. If it is possible to prevent a child or teacher (or really anyone this individual comes into contact with) from being hurt why not take it seriously. I would also ask the police to be sure that the parents weapons and that child’s friends parents weapons are secure and that none are missing.
I hope that nothing happens to any of the children in the photo, and that the one who made it gets the help he needs before he ruins his life or someone else’s.

That''s horrifying and imagining my DD''s picture on there brings chills down my spine
38.gif

If it was me, I would call the police, call the school, call the news channels and hope to God that the person who did this does not have my DH find him first. I would also NOT let me children out of my sight (or our house for that matter) until the person(s) was caught.

OMG! What the h*ll!!

If my daughter was in that picture, I don''t know what I''d do. Take her out of school for a little while, make arrangements for her school work until this matter was resolved.

That is so scary!!! When I was in school, we never had to worry about this stuff....so sad that kids do nowadays.

Update from her dad:

"The DPD was there early AM and had the young man the minute he arrived. They are questioning him I was among 4 other parents that arrived and each of us was brought in to a conference room where our children were questioned. I was assured the boy was searched and the Police are doing something What i dont know but will be made aware. Thats is all the news i have for now"

I''m glad they got him so he''ll be unable to hurt anyone.

I''m glad they have him. I was thinking of the kids this morning. I hope he gets some help. That is just sooo scary.

update:
"The ABC affiliate called and i did an interview. I heralded the School district but bashed the PD for lack of reponse. I told the reporter i want a verbal response from the Chief of Police on why this threat was not taken appropriately and why there was not protocol for such a thing in Dallas.
WFAA Channel 8 is the station they ARE running the story! "

"The boy was escorted out of the school this AM RISD took the threat as real and is pursueing him VIA "all means available to the district" They made a point to tell me thet DPD was extremely limited in their response! He has been suspended indef. until the RISD feels he can be placed."

Wow Storm that''s a horrific tale, I''m just glad they caught the child in question and that he will hopefully receive the help/treatment/support he needs and deserves. I know people are quick to demonize the child, but often children who exhibit this behavior are victims themselves either of abuse at the hands of their parents/guardians/adults or other kids at school. Remember kids can be very cruel. There is likely something in his past that precipitated this behavior. He also may have some sort of psychological disability and it sounds like this was caught in time before it manifested in more destructive behavior. I think it''s important to instill in children tolerance and respect for all people from a very early age. An interesting aspect of Columbine and similar incidents is that the perpetrators tended to single out those students who had tormented them, they spared those who had treated them kindly. There is no excuse, justification for their actions but it is interesting to note. We do our best to instill in FI''s daughter respect for everyone despite their differences and hope that she will never have to witness/face an event such as this. Best to your friends and all the children involved. We will continue to pray for all involved.

Wow strm, that is horrible!! But I''m so glad that they caught the boy.

update from her dad:
"This young man is 13 years old
I was just called by the news department and told that this story is the lead story for channel 8 at 6:00pm today. DPD is being tight lipped about this and that has the news guys flustered and pounding the doors. "

Perhaps a stupid question, but what does RISD stand for? Googling it turns up a bunch of Road Island School of Design hits, and I''m pretty sure that''s not the right RISD.

the paper messed up the story,,,

"Richardson student disciplined after threat

04:16 PM CST on Monday, March 6, 2006

By KRISTINE HUGHES / Staff Writer

A student at Richardson’s Parkhill Junior High is facing discipline after creating a graphic image that depicts violence against about a dozen classmates, district officials said.

The image, a collage of faces with weapons pointed at them and bloody wounds painted on them, was e-mailed to one of the students Friday night.

The girl’s father, Fausto Ordonez, reported the image to the Dallas Police Department on Saturday and then to Richardson school district officials on Sunday.

“As soon as [the district] found out, they were all over it,” he said.

Mr. Ordonez said Superintendent Jim Nelson asked him and his daughter to meet with the school’s principal and district student services staff Monday morning. Soon after the meeting, he said, they reported to him that the responsible student had been suspended indefinitely.

District officials will not confirm the actions taken in the situation because student discipline is confidential by law.

RISD spokeswoman Jeanne Guerra said the student is facing disciplinary action “in accordance with the RISD student code of conduct.” The code of conduct states that any student who makes threats “may” be assigned to the district’s alternative education program.

“From the investigation it is believed the student acted alone,” Ms. Guerra said. “After interviewing the student believed to be responsible, RISD administrators do not believe that any danger to students or staff exists in relation to the image.”

NBC has called for an interview and it is going to hit the wire services.
Its going national, I wonder how bad they will distort the whole story.

Her dad and the other parents are pretty ticked over the way the cops handled it and how the paper reported it.
I expect the story will be updated with a clearer version of what happened.
Several of the parents called the paper and raised heck.
