Warning of potential scam buyer on DB

There have no been 3 people that I'm aware of who have been hit up by the same scam buyer on DB in the past week, and who knows how many others who aren't in communication with each other. My scammer's name was David Gary C. Williamson. Somehow what he eventually will wind up doing is either get your product from you without paying or somehow finds a way to hack your PayPal account: http://betterthandiamond.com/discussion/ubbthreads.php/topics/661317/Re_Bistro_scam

Thankfully the whole transaction smelled enough for me to get away without finding out what the real consequences were, but who knows how far it would've gone. I know that most of you are smart enough not to fall for anything, but if you get an email from a man whose name you don't recognize saying he's "ready and willing to buy" proceed with caution. He's using more than one name.

ETA:

So I told the guy I wouldn't sell to him because I thought the whole transaction was fishy, and this is what he replied:

"Okay no problem you can keep the earrings. I can never force you to sell it. It embarrassing for you to say you say my request fishy, i think you must be very very stupid with your words. Who the hell do you think you are? I am 65 year and i am old enough to be your father, so go to hell and rot in hell.

Bye

Williamson"

I agree. See my thread on my 2.656ct pendant

Athena, does your guy want you to ship the item to an address in Vancouver? Also, it's interesting that he asked that I ship the item via i)Australia post office (most likely a cut & paste job - he was trying to scam s.o. living in Australia) and ii) now, via my local post office - express mail international.

I also googled the address he gave me and the name. The results are def fishy.

Oh yah, and now he's sent me a total of 6 emails already, over the course of the last few days, even though I've stopped responding to him. Each time, it's the same theme: "Pease tell me if this is available. I'm willing and ready to buy now".

Wise of you to have smelled that rat! Thanks for the warning. Phoenix, I get the shivers thinking what you could've been done out of! Being scammed out of anything hurts, though!

Yep, he wanted it sent Australian post. I smelled a rat from the get go, but that was the end for me. And when he told me to rot in Hell . . . well, that's pretty big confirmation.

He's just tried to hit someone else that recently listed something on DB - hopefully she sees my warning..... :angryfire:

Just another note, this happened awhile ago, but I had a person pretend to pay through paypal. In the email it contained paypal letterhead information, and links stating that I received payment and to click here to view payment detail. Please never click on any financial links. I go through paypal direct website to check my account. Anyways, I responded to the email that he was a scammer and that he never paid me and I will not be sending any item to him. Anyways, I was harrassed for a couple of weeks about the item, but I sent all the information to the Canadian cyber crime police department (the transaction was for me to send it to Canada) with their address that stated in the paypal information of where to send the item to. Not sure what came of it.

Do you have their contact details please? My scammer's asked me to send the item to Canada too.

Mine wanted me to send to Vacouver, Washington. I'll email the info to you.

My scammer's address and tel no are as follows:

4143 Welwyn st.
Vancouver, BC, V5N3Z1
Canada.

Tel: (778) 988-4000

His first name is Kelvin, I'm sure fake!

He emailed me again! I'm thinking of closing my DB a/c cos I'm tired of receiving emails from this scumbag!

Tell him you think the transaction is fishy and aren't willing to complete the transaction with him. I wonder if you'll get the response I got.

Shoot, I can't remember, but I did look up the police task force in the area that the scammer supposedly wants the item to be mailed to and sent them all the email correspondence with address. I wished I can remember what I googled, I did talk to them on the phone. I purged my email already so I don't have the info on scammer.

I'll just go ahead and cut and paste the entire email where he gave me his information (and asked me to ship via Australia post, even though I'm in the US and so was he, apparently):

"Thanks for your mail. I am willing and ready to buy it now.

I hope it is in good and excellent condition. Kindly send me more detailed photos.

How much exactly are you selling it? I mean how much exactly do you want to sell it?

Below is my shipping address. I want it shipped via Australia Post - Express mail international:

David Williamson,
1806 Se Park Crest Ave,
Vancouver, WA 98683. USA.

Do you have PayPal? Send me your PayPal account e-mail for me to pay you.

Nice doing business with you.
David Gary C. Williamson"

Just tell him you aren't falling for his scam. The guy that was trying to do this to me, said some horrible threatening thing, finally I wrote one last email stating that I called the police department there about him, gave his address on his fake paypal payment, his scam and his threats. He stopped replying.

I'm *definitely* going to write what you wrote. Urrghhh!! Scumbag - leaves a horrible taste in my mouth! :angryfire:

I was wondering: would it be possible to write to DB Admin to ask them to block this guy/his email address, kind of like blocking out spam on yr emails?

you could, but the problem is, he can show up with another member name/different email address. He'll eventually stop once he figures out you are not going to fall for his scam.. May get a few upset emails from him, block him from your email or just report as spam on your email and it filters automatically (hopefully). So sorry you are going through this Phoenix, its a shame there are so many scumbags out there who doesn't want to get a real job and only hope to rip people off :angryfire:

Horrible stories, thank you PS fellows for a warning.
I think it is a he, although a woman can do it, too. Yet the wording is very strange, he is probably an American, but his written speech is clumsy. I can not make a diagnosis basing on it, but I will not be surprised if he is a decent, not brilliant, hacker and that he is a loner..

Also, his addresses cluster around Pacific NW area. I wonder if he, in fact, lives in between these two cities, the driving distance between them makes only 5.5 hrs.

CSI PS!

Seriously, this is great information - thanks for issuing the alert.

I just got hit up by "Kelvin" for my Mahenge ring. I'm thinking of writing him back saying, "let me guess, you'll want it shipped via Australian post and I should rot in hell?"

He he, I think you should TOTALLY do it!!

SHIPPING SCAM
A recent fraud attempt was reported to JSA in which a jeweler was contacted by an alleged buyer who placed an order through the jeweler’s website, with the goods to be shipped to Australia. The payment by credit card was approved, and the buyer specified that the jeweler ship through a certain shipping company, which entailed a charge of $1,800. The shipping fee was to be wired to the shipping company through Western Union. The main scam in this case was to get the jeweler to wire the exorbitant shipping charges. The credit card in this case had been stolen, and the credit card holder was not aware the card was missing.

RECOMMENDATION: Many scams against jewelers are initiated overseas, particularly in Nigeria. Be careful of orders that seem too good to be true. Be especially careful of faxed credit card orders using poor English requesting gold product, which is a common fraud method. There are endless versions of scams against jewelers. When you are contacted by an unexpected customer through phone, fax, email, or operator-assisted calls for the hearing impaired, ask yourself, “Why did this person in a foreign country or distant city happen to contact my store or business? If I ship, am I risking a chargeback?”

It's also happening to the supply side unfortunately.

Bill

I've been emailed by this guy for my three listings on DB. The funny thing was he emailed me twice for the same item with different names but exactly the same text in the email about being ready and willing.

I just never replied and he didn't email me again.

Strange - he left out the "via Australian post" part on yours. I wish he would just stop trying.

Wow. Glad you guys had the instinct to not ship off your items.

I hope someone manages to catch this guy.

Another ready and willing to buy person, watch out!
