Warning - Scammer on Preloved and Loupetroop

OMG! I am so very sorry as well, that this scam happened to you. Though PP friends and family are non- refundable, I believe you do have recourse through your bank. I think friends/family is funded through your checking account. In my experience, trying to pay friends/family with a credit card, a PP page will pop up asking if this is goods and services and it won't allow you to pay with a credit card.

I strongly suggest trying to file with your bank, as this (to me) is considered an unauthorized charge-as in fraud, in that you did not authorize these payments for a fake item. Gather all of your evidence, correspondence, telephone number leading to voicemail, etc. What you received is not what was advertised, given the seller did not state (or advertise that this was a fake/knockoff item). You have verified this through Cartier as well. Use that too. I would really try this avenue. Your bank can fight on your behalf just like a credit card would.

I really hope that you can recover your funds! I know your spirit is deflated, but please try to see what your bank can do for you. (hugs to you)

@Kab03 I’m so sorry to read this. Do you mind if I ask a couple more questions?

1. Did you request to see the certificate and photos of the maker’s marks inside the bangle prior to purchase? And if so - do the images she sent you match what you actually received?

2. How did you verify the serial number with Cartier? Do you have (or can you get) their response in writing?

3. Have you gotten the bangle you received acid tested? If not, you should consider doing so.
- If it’s not 18k gold, then you have incontrovertible proof of fraud to take to your bank and the police. I know a refund may still not be plausible but it would help immensely; that is much more black and white than stamped certificates or bag colour or mismatched serial numbers.
- If it IS 18k gold but it’s not Cartier, now is a very good time to sell gold - you can recoup some of your money.

Hi all - I really appreciate the continued outpouring of kind words and support. I will answer questions/provide some clarity once I have an update. Thanks again. It really means a lot.

I’m so sorry this happened to you! I had inquired about the bracelet but ultimately decided a screw on bracelet was not right for me. I hope you can get some kind of recourse.

UG! this is my worst nightmare! I'm coming from the opposite direction, I literally came on here to list my Cartier bracelet and was reading the rules on posting jewelry first ...and saw your post. It was like the universe telling me to be careful. I am SO SORRY this happened to you. Why do people have to be like this? I think like a prior poster said you see someone is a member here or has sold other things, and you know YOU are a good person and would never do that to someone, so you trust. I'm SO SORRY this happened to you.

I just wanted to thank you so much for taking the time to post this. I hope something can be done for you, and I appreciate the warning so much. I may just take the bigger hit and sell direct to one of the other sites so i dont have to worry.

I am so sorry this happened to you! It must have made you just sick!
I got scammed by movers once, lost a down payment of $800, but got it back through Paypal...I wouldn't use Friends and Family even for friends and family...I am a suspicious person by nature...

Hi @Kab03 -

I feel for you. I was scammed through LoupeTroop. A seller there - also a member here, tho I haven't seen her here under that name since - sold me a diamond, heart shaped pendant. The listing said the diamonds were 10 points each. When it arrived, the diamonds were 2.2mm in diameter (ie 4 points). It wasn't hugely expensive, so I didn't try to get my money back, but the seller was very snooty about me being "so unhappy!!" and made noises about refunding me, assuming the piece was still in its original condition. I figured if she lied in the first place, sending her the piece so she had my money AND the necklace was about the stupidest thing I could do - so I kept it. I'll pull it apart at some point and use the melee and melt the metal, tho it will be interesting to see if the stones are, in fact, diamonds....

I hope you're able to recoup your money and that the seller makes this right. Theft is a form of financial assault, and extremely ugly. I'm so sorry this happened to you.

Sorry to hear about this, and I hope that you are able to get your money back!

@Ella I can see where the mods are coming from with the position that the transaction did not occur on PS, but I'm not sure I agree that this is behaviour that took place "outside of PS" altogether since that user did advertise on the PS forums. Perhaps one thing that can be done is to add a comment on the relevant listings to state that issues have been discovered, and link to this thread (and any other threads regarding that user's counterfeit goods)? My concern is about making it easier to research that particular seller so that people would hopefully not fall prey again, in the event that the user's account is retained eventually.

I am so sorry to read about this. People can be disgusting. Hoping you can get some resolution & get your money back.

I am so sorry! I don’t know if there is a way to contact PayPal anyway to see what they say?

Unfortunately, PayPal is useless when FF is used for payment.

Personally I think “Friends and Family” is ok if it’s with a fellow PSer of long standing AND activity BUT I think anyone who doesn’t want to use that payment method, offer to cover the PayPal fees and tracked shipping.
I would ask for F & F when I sell but only because it means better $$ for me and less $$ cost for the buyer bunt if someone says “not comfortable, can I pay the extra costs” I’d say sure, no worries.
On the other hand when selling, be wary of unknown persons, scams work both ways!

You can still pay with a credit card even with PayPal friends/family. I believe in that case, the buyer pays the fees. The buyer wouldn't get PayPal protection but would still have their credit card's protection. I have paid that way before when the seller requested friends/family payment.

Ultimately there are at least two sides to every story. We think it’s fair to make sure both people have the opportunity to share their side of a story, and rectify any misunderstandings, before we start banning people. There have been times before on PS where buyers cry foul only to find out they were the one in the wrong. It does not mean we will not take action, it only means we look into an allegation before taking action.

We have emailed the seller and asked them for their side and to rectify the situation with the buyer. If the seller is uncooperative we will take additional steps. The seller in question does not have any other active listings on PS or we would have removed them while we figured out what happened.

We do not have the person power on PS to self-determine what listings are counterfeit and what are genuine. One of the many reasons we do not allow sales to happen on PS itself.

Ella--you have a thankless job sometimes, but I appreciate all that you do, so thank you so much for what you do for PS!

I’m so sorry. What a punch to the gut.
