Was found but now Im just lost

Of the last two you have I think they're both a little high in price. Second one from Sartori Bros has horrid pics, so that is tough. The settings on both are 14K rather than plat, which is why I feel the prices are a bit high. If they really truly were H color, maybe. But with no cert I usually estimate that color is gonna be a bit lower than stated.

The one on ebay with the thin shank looks like a transitional cut to me, not an OEC. I've discovered that although I love OECs I'm not a huge fan of transitional cuts... they just have a different look. So it isn't necessarily true that because you love OECs, you'll also like transitionals. You could get that piece reshanked, at least, if you like the setting. But I do feel the price is a bit high for a 14K setting with that stone.

The Sartori Bros one appears like it's probably pretty deep, judging by the measurements- it's facing up really really small for a 1 ct, and that is a turn off to me personally. The setting is quite pretty. But can't tell a darn thing beyond that from the pics. I feel the price is high on it, for what it is. If you like it I'd ask for more pics, preferably non-photoshopped (it looks like they cleaned up the ones that they posted with photoshop, at least to me), and make an offer on it, try to get them down to $3K. That's still a bit high but not outrageous.

Do bear in mind it's hard to price antique pieces- essentially they're "worth" whatever you want to pay for them. Sometimes if one is just killer and totally perfect, great setting and to-die-for diamond, you just have to pony up the $ even if you think it's priced a bit high. It can be hard to find just the right mix of stats especially if you're trying for the whole ring not just the diamond, and if something is utterly perfect that can make the price a bit less of an issue, yanno? Also the colorless range in antique cut diamonds are selling at a bit of a premium frequently, since the demand is greater than the supply.

I'm still liking the .95 H that you picked out in the first group, of all of them. Nice small table, not too deep and faces up a good size. Price is pretty good too and pretty setting, platinum too. If I were pursuing it, I'd ask them fore more pics, a good closeup head on. And I'd badger the seller to extend the return period so I could get it appraised. Since they do have an OK return period already (I'm remembering that right aren't I ?) I'd still be willing to buy it even if they didn't do either, but still it's worth asking!

Hope that helps!

PS- Pixley, that 3 stone is just amazing! You did sooooo good

Thanks LGK
I think I just might put in an offer. I wrote them yesterday and no response. I had one ring that I LOVED and the seller stopped the auction early it broke my heart. I dont want that to happen again.

Kate- the Dover one looks good to me- good price and nice classic setting, platinum, and nice stone and over a carat. The pics are good; it looks like the stone is probably somewhere in line with their quoted color. The patterning is lovely and, from what you can tell from pics (which is of course a bit limited) it looks like it has good light return, and a nice small table.

Dover is unlikely to be able to provide more info, except maybe the diameter of the stone (which would indeed be helpful). They sell at great prices often, but the trade off is they're not as customer service intensive as, like JbEG or something.

Hit them up for a return period too, sans restocking fee. They always do for me, usually three days, though they don't automatically do one.

So, I'd probably say the Dover one would be my first choice since I'm familiar with them and have purchased a good number of things from them. The second would be that H .95 ct one on eBay. If you really like the Dover one I'd just buy it if i were you, as long as you get a return period, even if they don't give you a lot more info.

Thanks LGK! I really love it! I thought that other diamond was a transitional too bc of the faceting and culet size but didn't want to comment since I'm not as familiar with the subject. I really like the Dover ring. I'd second buying from Dover over ebay, I've read on here that they are fair with their returns. I've inquired about rings from them before and they were quick to respond and helpful.

So the one on dover has a chip.
The .95 H on ebay has not gotten back to me so I kept looking and this is what I found.

After looking at the august diamonds on good old gold I started to check out there hearts and arrows and Im impressed. So now I just have to decide between the two. Anyone know of an affordable simple platinum setting? I dont think I can spend $1000+ on a setting now.

both stones look nice. I think it really depends on the look you are going for.... the vintage stone/ring feel, or the modern ideal cut stone.
