Trillon Cut antique ring

Antique ladies platinum diamond ring. trillion center stone. 30 antique square cut step diamond. Was given to my grandmother upon the birth of her son in 1927. The appraiser gave the age of the stones as 100.

My mother recently gave this ring to me and I promptly got an appraisal and of course a cleaning. The center stone has chips on all sides (which I can't see) and one of the square cut diamonds (the smallest) is broken ( which I also can't see).

The ring will get passed down in many years to my 10 month old granddaughter.

I am in love with it and wish I knew more of its history.

Grades are side diamonds - SI 11 color G-H center - SI12 - color JK

Sides equal approx 1.2 carets
Center 2.4
Total weight is approx 11.9 grams

Very unique, beautiful ring!

Thank you - I wish I could get some better pictures. They don't do the ring justice. Next stop is figuring out insurance options.

That is amazing! I haven't seen a trillion in an antique ring like that! You are fortunate to have a family heirloom to continue passing down! I think a lot about that as I buy jewelry as I have a little toddler granddaughter, too!

What an incredible heirloom. You and your granddaughter are very lucky. I think trilliants are underappreciated, they just look so cool!

Oh I love that!!!!!!! What a special piece to pass down to your grand-daughter. Are there any maker's mark on the inside of the ring that you could do some research for to find out more? Or does your mother know anything about it? I love antique rings/ diamonds and it makes it so much more special when they are a piece of your history that you can appreciate and then pass down to the next generation.

The inscription is just the platinum grade...nothing else. My mother pretty much dismissed the ring as being worth anything because of the cut... She was surprised at the appraisal. My grandmother, per my mom, also didn't put much of a value on it. I love it for being unique and also the sentimental value (at least to me)

Now about insurance options - any ideas?

Re: Was Grandmother's Ring - Will One Day Be my Granddaughte

That is tough because you don't really have anything out there to compare it to in regards to cut. Honestly I know you just got an appraisal but like most on here I think they are inflated. I would send the ring to David Atlas and ask him about the amount that would be good for insurance purposes.

Re: Was Grandmother's Ring - Will One Day Be my Granddaughte

I'm sure its inflated, but it will not be sold - at least by me. I'm very new at this - do you mean send a picture and the appraisal to David Atlas. The ring stays in my safe. :)

I love that! I'd be polishing that baby up and wearing it!
