Was this stone carved/cut to look this way? Any ideas on how it is done?

I think that parts of the back are hollowed out. The top is a cabochon.

Yes, it is carved with round burrs to create the bubbles. The variable thickness gives it the colour variations. I have a similar stone and it is pretty cool.
