It was mostly what I wanted but just needed a few tweaks. I knew that I wanted a MRB and I wanted something simple. One summer my husband was in St. Louis for 6 weeks for work and I visited him there for a week. I was having a spa day one afternoon and decided to go to some of the shops and stores in the area. I had never even looked at engagement rings before but I saw a round solitaire with diamonds set in the band (like the Tiffany etoile band but not scattered) and I really liked it. So I showed it to my now DH the next day and I told him that if he ever decided to propose that I liked something simple like that with a round stone. I told him I didn't want anything too large (what was I thinking?
) because my finger was only a size 4. I told him a half carat was probably a good size but to please only get what he could afford when the time comes. I let him know that quality was more important to me than size. That was the only discussion we ever had about the ring.
Two years after that he contacted that same jeweler and had the ring re-made. He purchased the diamond from JA which is a 0.79ct GIA Excellent cut E VS2 stone with faint flouro that scores under 2 on the HCA. I love the stone and I think if I had been given his budget and told to pick a stone I would have picked that exact one. I have made a few changes to the ring though. The original ring that I saw was much thinner and the ring that DH proposed with was 4mm wide so I had the edges shaved off and its now around 2.7mm which I'm much happier with. It looks much better on my small finger and the center stone stands out more. The stone was also set in a very tall 4-prong setting which I didn't mind the look of but after knocking the stone loose a few times, I decided to have BGD change it to a lower 6-prong head with their yummy claw prongs.
The ring is now perfect and it is my forever ring unless I decide someday that I want a larger stone. And I wouldn't trade this stone in for an upgrade, I would buy a second ring, maybe an OEC in a simple antique setting (yes, I have caught the OEC bug too!
)
Sorry for such a long story!
