We inherited a Shih Tzu

Does Willie actually look like a Shih Tzu? I googled the breed but he's a bit dingy and I can't tell. I don't care what he is, but I do love reading about dog breeds so I'm curious if he's actually a Shih Tzu.

It's hard to say. He seems a bit silver grey like a schnauzer/shih tzu maybe? His nose is a bit longer than the typical shih tzu. But what a sweetie! Bless you for taking him in. So sorry about your aunt though.

ETA: after looking at some google images, i think maltese or poodle might be in there. Maltese/shih tzu is a common mix apparently.

I thought he looked like a Schnauzer too! His fur curled up when I just washed him, and I thought Shih Tzu had straight fur, so maybe he's part poodle. Who knows? A couple neighbors on our walk today said "Oh, look at that Shih Tzu!" so he must look something like a Shih Tzu. I have no idea, I am so NOT a small dog person, but this little guy has already worked his way into my heart!

I just googled "maltese" and I have to say--they look like white Shih Tzus to me!

He is precious. My inlaws have one. They travel so well, they don't eat much,and they are very quiet. Great dogs. Congratulations.

He looks just like my inlaw's ST. Only, yours is cuter because the food they feed theirs stains the chin. Plus, I personally like your cut better. Their dog has more of a long beard and it looks unsanitary, IMO. The one they have much prefers the husband to the wife. The husband rides it everyday on a towel in the bike basket.

My best guess is that Willie's a Shih-Tzu crossed with a Bichon Frise. That's the dog we have. His name is Dweezil and he's a "Shih-Tzon". A very fitting name!

Willie looks exactly like our li'l Dweezil. You know how I can tell Willie's not a purebred Shih-Tzu? One of your pics shows him in a partial profile and his snout's too long to be a purebred. Our dog has the same nose. Willie is pretty small, though. Our Dweezil is 14-15 lbs so possibly Willie's a shih-tzu crossed with a havanese? or maltese?

Whatever the case... Willie's precious!! Love him to pieces Congrats on the new addition to your family!

Does your bike have a basket? My inlaw's dog is called Zoey.
She goes on rides everyday With The HUSBAND. I think they prefer men. They call that her exercise. When they do walk her, she doesn't require a lead. And she won't leave the yard.
