We paid off our house

We paid off our house. We took money from our savings and put the last 47k on it this weekend at the bank. It was a pretty big moment for us. We thought long and hard as my husband's job is not secure.

I feel conflicted: relieved, proud and questioning our choices in life to get to this point. I was a stay at home mom for many many years, and have always underearned once I did get back full time. Paying off the house represents choices: not going on holidays, driving older cars, not eating out, no spa treatments or tucks for this middle age gal, not having new clothes and (especially to me LOL) not buying bling or buying inexpensive bling. I may never have that holy grail blue sapphire I dream about, and I've never dared dream about a holy grail OEC.

On the other hand, we've always had the funds on hand for our needs (vs our wants). I'm in need of a root canal (bloody tooth pain is killer), and have that scheduled. I can afford to do that. My kids have never known hunger, we have a safe and warm roof over our heads. I'm rich in the ways that matter.

We can't tell anyone as it just brings up negative emotions from people: resentment, jealousy, and some other weird stuff I'm not qualified to name. So I'll say it here. Yes, for all those sacrifices we made, the feeling today is relief and gratitude that debt is gone.

Congratulations!! I, too, paid off my house in May. I retired in December. I’m a court reporter In Orange County, California. I worked really hard and two months after I retired, I made enough to pay it off. It was the same amount as yours. It was such an accomplishment. You know how we celebrated?? We went to Dairy Queen and got a Blizzard. Lol46D9E9E5-D723-4E4B-979A-C27C8E4D8BAB.jpeg

Omg. It's a p r o b l e m girl. I purged as they all have to come in the house being fall and all.
(Then I bought a few more)
Gotta be rehab somewhere...
(Hopefully at a garden centre)

Congratulations - you have worked hard to achieve this!!

We sure did.
Hopefully we can save again. Weird times, middle age...
One day at a time eh?

Congratulations @Begonia ! It's a big accomplishment you should be proud of. I'm hoping now that you no longer have a
mortgage payment that you can take care of some of the stuff you need to do (hello, root canal) and then do some of the fun
stuff that you WANT to do (spa, travel, jewelry, etc.). It is a big deal!

I sure hope so!
Travel and bling and spa...gosh that would be
l o v e l y.

This is most definitely a cause to celebrate @Begonia!!. Congratulations to both you and your hubby on a monumental achievement!!

still a life milestone :appl: :appl:
well done you too =)2

you and Begonia are my inspiration =)2
(our morgage payment goes out today (on a wednesday)

You're so sweet! You can do it! It is such a relief. We only save about $200 a month after setting aside about $300 a month for taxes and insurance, because our payment was so low. But its the relief of knowing its done.

Congratulations! What a huge milestone, I know that represents a lot of hard work and perseverance. Well done!

Congrats!! Well done.
