Hi, I''m new here, but I just need to find out if anyone else has been through anything like this. My wedding is July 1, 2006 (less than 2 months!). My fiance Shawn and I live in Des Moines, Iowa, but we''re getting married back in Illinois where my parents and family live. So, the begining of June, I have to go back to Illinois to stay with my folks and help get all the last minute details set up and all that. (Mom has been coordinating everything over there in Illinois, and instead of phone calls once a week, we now talk on the phone for 2 hours at a time every other day, although of course, some of that time is used in talking about American Idol or Deal or No Deal, lol.) So, I need my dress altered and everything by the begining of June. Ok, that''s the necessary background. Here is the timeline, thus far:
12/04/04: Shawn proposes, I say yes, Everything is Great.
Shortly thereafter: I sign up on TheKnot.com
01/05-05/05: I am in school and make a habit of looking at what kinds of dresses I like between classes. (graduate school, I''m 26.)
Sometime that spring: I fall madly in love with Bonny dresses. I look up the places they are available in Des Moines. 2 stores.
Sometime that spring/early summer: I go to visit these places with my friend Helyn. Place 1, which is closer to where I live, is busy busy busy, intimidating, slightly rude, and I don''t like ''em. Place 2 is friendly, nice, sweet, kind.
Over the summer, I visit place 2 three times. Yay. I get sized for the dress, etc., but have to wait to order it ''til I have some money saved. They say, order it by January to have it ready by June.
11/05: I call place 2 repeated. No answer. Don''t have a car to get over there, and keep thinking I''m just not calling at the right time.
12/05: Still calling. Getting worried.
01/06: Make it over to place 2 to see that a new business is moving in to the space. Reluctantly return to place 1, where I learn the proprietor of place 2 has passed on.
Order dress from place 1 who say that it wil be pushing it to have it ready by June as it won''t arrive until late April, early May.
Winter/Spring: Mom and I both call, plead, and go to the place when Mom visits, trying to get some sort of rush put on the order. Place 1 is completely not accomodating, even when Mom gets out her purse and offers money.
05/01/06: I call Place 1 again, say I am checking the status of my order. Place 1 appears to have never heard of me before (though I''m speaking with the same lady we always speak to) and says they will call me back after checking in the back for my order information. Guess what? They didn''t call back!
They intimidate me. I''m a fairly assertive person, but this place just makes me feel like they''re doing me a favor just to answer their phone. My mom is a very assertive person and I have never seen her run up against a brick wall, but even she can''t get these people to act like they want our business. It''s like they know they are the only game in town (at least as concerns Bonny dresses, for now, but I e-mailed Bonny and told them to find another place here in Des Moines to carry their line) and they''ll get around to my dress when they get around to it.
Ok, so is this typical wedding dress stuff, and I''m just a stressed Bride-to-be, or is this really the nightmare I feel like it is?
*posts the message and goes off to call them yet again*
