Do you girls have alcohol on weekdays? I only drink water, so no empty calories when it comes to beverages....EXCEPT wine for me. I think I need to cut that out, even on weekends. FI and I can share a bottle easily during dinner, even on a weeknight.

This is my downfall too! I drink water all day and then at night I enjoy my wine. Too much sugar & too many empty calories undoing the good I have done with food all day. It''s strange because I never cared for wine too much until I hit about 37 and now I LOVE it!
Here here. I drink more calories than I eat sometimes!

No gym for us today, Hubby''s calf muscle was hurting so we decided not to. However we will go for a walk tonight. We will still fit in 4 gym sessions this week so good overall.

lucky for my calories, i am not a wine person or alcohol person at all really. i typically have 2 margaritas at our fave mexi place, and sometimes if we go to a bar/restaurant i get a drink but it's literally on average probably one every 2 weeks or something. i also do love moscato sweet white wine so i have that sometimes with fish at dinner at home, but it's like 3 oz and i typically only have one glass. it's VERY rare when i go all out on the wine. hehee. i just don't find it that appealing in terms of taste for the most part. i drink water 99% of the time, and have been 'shaking it up' with pom tea or sometimes i get iced tea at restaurants with no sugar or sweetener. i have a regular coke about twice a week when we go out to dinner, but sometimes i just get iced tea. it's amazing how many calories you can rack up just DRINKING FLUIDS!

so yesterday i did 2 walks in trying to keep with this whole walking for 60 minutes a day thing...the first one in the morning with portia and it was just slightly over a mile and about 20 minutes, then we walked to dinner which is about 1/2 mile to 3/4 a mile total and then after dinner i took portia on another walk which was about 1/2 mile total. i'm still really sore from my workout, and i want to workout tomorrow so i didn't want to overdo it and stay totally sore. so today i plan to walk again, hopefully do 2-3 miles total...it's been cooler so doing an evening workout isn't a big deal now.

food yesterday was really good umm until dinner.

we went to this local cajun place and i had a salad, some lightly fried cornmeal shrimp, cornbread and then bread pudding, woops. hehee. but i figured the walking after was positive so i didn't worry too much. tonight we'll have some sort of healthy chicken and veggie thing.

I got hooked on wine about 7 years ago...I will go through spurts of drinking it frequently (a glass or two for dinner several nights a week) to not at all some weeks. Other than wine, I typically drink water and diet soda, so I don''t waste a ton of calories that way, and I factor it in to my intake when I do drink wine.

Yesterday we went wine tasting and then out for Mexican food, not the healthiest day I''ve had. We did go for a 45 minute walk last night though, so I felt not so guilty.

This morning I did 35 minutes on my eliptical and then free weights and lunges.

Food will be good today as I start school tonight (scary!) and since class starts at six I won''t have a real dinner, just a zone bar.

Have a healthy day everyone!

Did half hour on the treadmill today, and will be doing some arm toning exercises with weights soon, plus another 10 minutes of jumping rope.

I''ve been eating numerous small meals today, so that should help keep my metabolism on an even keel, along with my blood sugar.

Dinner tonight will be half a turkey leg, one cup cooked white rice, 2 cups grapes for dessert, and one glass of wine. I confess, I''m a wine drinker, and have been known to get completely, and pleasantly, drunk on red wines. Not so when it comes to hard liquor.

dinner tonite is grilled mustard yogurt lime chicken, steamed broccoli and some oven roasted potato slices with garlic and rosemary (those awesome frozen ones from whole foods and 1 serving is only 130 calories and 3g of fat!!! yum).

i went for a 25 minute walk this morning with portia, and greg and i are going to go for a 2m walk in about half an hour. so that is my 60 minute walk requirement for today...yay!

hope everyone has a great evening!

Speaking of freezing things, this sounds really kind of gross and I was not thinking it would be good at all, but a roommate in college froze red grapes and would call them "mini popsicles." I finally tried one. Gosh, they are good. Taste sweeter, they crunch a little, and then have the best consistency. I can''t even describe it. But everyone should try a few frozen in the fridge. They are so refreshing!!!

Oh I LOVE frozen grapes fisher! A couple of my friends thought I was weird when I suggested it, but they were all hooked instantly.

Frozen grapes - sounds yummy and a great replacement for ice-cubes too! Thanks for the tip.

I walked today and ate much healthier than yesterday, so I feel better. It''s so humid here that I have been drinking tons of water too which can only be good.

I *love* frozen grapes!!! I use the seedless green ones and they are soooo yummy. The consistency is fab on a hot summer day. Totally hits the spot!

Hello all : )

I had a few random questions for you all... I just joined a gym recently (instead of going for runs on my own outside)... and all the equipment is a bit overwhelming... at least the technological side of them.

Are the calorie counters on treadmills or ellipticals accurate? Do you trust them? Guage your dieting/eating off them?

Same sort of question about the heart rate monitors. In the last week that I''ve been trying them, they seem to be either off the charts low or off the charts high - obviously not true, if I''m in the middle of the 4 mile run and haven''t sped up/slowed down much.

Does anyone here have a heart rate monitor of their own? Any use? Reliable?

Thanks : )

Aussiegirl : p

I never trusted the calorie counters on the machines...don''t know why. I think for me, they overestimate.

So you guys are definitely encouraging me. Flew home after a long day so FI and I went to dinner. Instead of wine, I ordered pellegrino...they serve it in a wine glass, so I do feel like I am drinking something special. I love it with lime...so refreshing!

Afterwards, we went for a walk on the beach...on the sand. Man, my calves are killing me. But it''s a great workout if you want to add extra oomph to a simple walk!

I will have to try the frozen grapes...

breakfast this morning was a packet of heart kashi oatmeal and 1/2 an english muffin with some crunchy organic PB on it...high fiber, high protein!

and since i joined sparkpeople.com, here is a link to a thread that talks about what these gals are eating for their 'high fiber/high protein' breakfasts, since apparently that is a big deal-so if anyone needs any new breakfast ideas:

http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=63&imparent=2819666

it is amazing how much fiber some of these cereals have. my kashi has like 8g fiber and 6g protein or something and they are eating cereals with 14g of protein...yikes!

i did my jumping jacks last nite but i think i overdid it or something because today my middle back muscles are killing me..ugh!!! i am going to class tonite so i hope they stretch out during the day. bah!

Snack today: frozen grapes. Gosh, I forgot how GOOD they are! Yummy!

i just had another 1/2 of an english muffin toasted with PB for my afternoon snack. i was totally craving the salty sweet PB..yum. crunchy.

tonite is sushi...i''ll pick it up for us after my workout! i am sooo craving it...i love it. i get an aloha roll which is fresh tuna and avocado with a dash of wasabi cream, rolled and topped with shredded coconut and this other roll which is cooked shrimp with avocado and cucumber, rolled and topped with coconut. love the coconut and avocado, at least its good fat!!!

I know nothing about sushi, but I''ve been told that it''s not always raw fish. Is that true? Can you eat sushi without eating any raw meat?

well i think that people just call japanese food sushi in general but yes you can have things like california rolls which have cooked crab, one of the rolls i get has cooked shrimp...there is nigiri that is cooked eel, cooked egg, cooked shrimp all with rice...things like avocado, cucumber etc. there are also a bunch of soups with things like soy, noodles, etc...and they have tempura, and cooked beef, etc.

so no you don't have to have raw fish...i'm not a real raw-fish fan honestly but i do love me some fresh, raw tuna, it's divine and the texture is great. but other than tuna i don't like any of the raw fish. greg loves it however!!! he gets all sort of raw stuff when we go.

Thanks for the info, Mara. Maybe one day I''ll have *sushi* and feel all sophisticated and stuff. Haha. Yep, that''s me.

I do like Thai, though. That was a big step for me. I''m pretty much a bland food kinda girl.

Good morning everyone. I haven''t posted here in the last couple days...busy preparing for vacation this week! I definitely fell off the workout wagon except for crunches and some quick weights at home. On the positive side, though, I haven''t been sitting on my butt with my hand in a bag of chips, either! Just running around like crazy, doing all the last-minute things.

So, my office manager got herself a digital jump rope and she''s been using it here at work during the day!!!
1.gif
She goes outside in our back parking area (it''s pretty secluded, fenced-in, etc.) and does it for about 5 minutes each day, then she and a couple of other gals go for a walk. I''m so proud of them! She told me to bring my jump rope to work with me so I could join her...I think I will, that way we can motivate each other.

I''m really going to try my best to enjoy my vacation but not over-do it with the alcohol, etc. I really don''t want to come back 5 pounds heavier. We will be doing a lot of hiking, fishing, swimming, so at least my metabolism will still be percolating.

It''s the s''mores and beer I''m worried about, though!

So I''ve asbolutely dropped the proverbial ball when it comes to exercising this week. I started my Master''s program this week and have been really focused on that. Our new house closed escrow and last night after school all I wanted to do was go see it so we only got in a few good walks and I did one workout at home. I suck.

I under-ate yesterday. I had oatmeal for breakfast, a granola bar and handful of baked cheetos for lunch (yum!) and a Zone bar for dinner. I''m feeling really thin for my wedding dress fitting this morning, but I know I''ll make up the calories this weekend.

We''re going to Chicago which means lots of good walking (we get in at least 5 miles a day when we go there) but the food negates all the calories I work off.

Better luck to me next week...maybe there won''t be so many life changes and I''ll be more focused.

oh kimberly im sure everyone will be overconsuming their calories this weekend, its just part of the drill...mmmmm guacamole dip! hehe.

i was SO GOOD this week with working out i shocked myself. i think i mentioned how i was trying to add more walking in to kind of jump start my body again...since i wasn't really feeling like the changes were happening fast enough and i was reading on that sparkpeople website that you can kind of push off a plateau by adding in a few more calories AND by also burning a few more calories as well. so i added at least 1m to a walk daily, regardless of whether i was kickboxing or not. in the past if i was kickboxing i didn't work out other than that. but so this week i went out with portia and did the 1m around our complex and a neighboring complex and she loves it, and it seems to be doing me some good too!! it's sometimes hard to get motivated to just get out and do it, but i find that once we are out there i am so happy and portia loves the extra exercise.

i don't know if it's just a 'good day' or whatever but i am definitely getting more toned..YAY. i can see it in my legs more and also my arms and finally my GUT area...things are tightening up. i also went to class twice this week and will walk at least 1m today if not 2-3m if i can get out for a walk later before dinner...and then tomorrow i am going to morning class (yikes, last week it hurt!), and then on sunday we'll go for a long walk before or after dinner. my sister is going to be over at our house this weekend, so we're going to carmel/monterey tomorrow, can you say lots of fatty food for dinner? hehee. but i hope by working out tomorrow morning i will alleviate some guilt, esp since i won't be able to go to kbox again til like WED thanks to 4th of july.

anyway but i definitely recommend the extra 1m walk kinda thing to people..it only takes about 20 minutes at a decent pace and if you do it before or after dinner it actually feels really good. greg has been starting to like walking after dinner, which is great for helping your digestion and then you aren't sitting on the couch after gorging.

have a FAB TIME ladies, enjoy the weekend!!! and enjoy the calories! hehe. next week is a whole new ballgame!

fisher..here where we live we are surrounded by fabulous, tasty food. we rarely have a bland meal...and honestly now my taste buds kind of rebel against bland food...we love seasoned, spicy, tangy, just tasty!!!! it has to have lots of taste. so sushi is like a feast for the tongue with all the different flavors. heee.

I was lazy yesterday and didn''t hit the gym or get in any kind of exercise at all, unless one hour spent shopping counts as cardio. I wil be going to the gym today though, with my jump rope, and will do at least 20 minutes on the treadmill to cover 2 miles, and then another 10-15 of jumping rope to tone my calves.

After two months of working out 4 times a week, my bf and I noticed that I have trimmed down in my waist and hips area, so YAY!!! My pants are finally fitting better, and I can wear clothes that I haven''t been able to wear for the last year or so. Having daily weigh-ins on the bathroom scale really helps keep things under control for me, because I freak out if there''s a bit of fluctuation, and it definitely helps me stay within my caloric limits.

But it''s 4th of July weekend, and it''s time for BBQs and stuff. So have fun gorging everyone, because I most likely will be!

Hello Everyone!

I''ve been a bad, bad girl for not reporting in this week until now. But I can honestly say that I''ve been GOOD with the eating and working out! I''m keeping my daily calorie intake in check, and have worked out 3 times this week.

I''ve had a blast going thru everyone''s posts. THANKS Mara for info about sparkpeople. I''ve been reading up a ton over there, and getting new ideas for HIGH FIBER breakfast menus. I love kashi stuff, but need to mix things up a bit!

I giggled when I read the posts about drinking your calories. I''m certainly a culprit! I LOVE WINE, and have been known to throw back 2-3 glasses a night. And don''t even get me started on Margaritas. YUM!! Gosh, it all adds up. But apart from that, I''m a water and green tea kind of gal (maybe a diet coke 2x/week). Anyway, I decided to go COLD TURKEY on the beverages. It''s been a month now, and I haven''t cheated once. I''ve got another month to go, as I decided that d-day will be my bridal shower on 7/29. It''s a brunch theme, and I plan to have a mimosa (or two!)

I''ll be taking off in a bit for the long Holiday weekend, and I have every intention of being good. I may not be able to work out until after the Holiday, but at least I can control what I eat.

I''ll leave you with my favorite line: Remember that it''s a HoliDAY, and not a HoliWEEK!

Have a good one!

I really should start posting here. I need some serious motivation. Well yesterday, I walked to work (ewww, work on a Saturday) and then I met a friend and walked around the waterfront, and for some crazy reason I then walked all the way home. It was atleast 8 miles up and down the hills of Seattle. I''m sore today!!
