that sounds like a yummy side dish lulu...maybe we will have it for our side tonite...i love mozz and tomatoes!

last nite we had yogurt dijon chicken and cauliflower, i also did a small root beer float with my 1/2 fat ice cream and it was GOOOD.

my total calories for yesterday were 1470 and i walked 2.5miles as well. so far so good, but i did splurge a little this morning and eat some cinnamon toast crunch, MAN is that stuff SWEET. i only had about 1/2 cup and it was more than enough..i also had some go lean before it because i have to have the fiber or else i''ll get hungry too quickly.

debating on working out tonite with kbox OR just walking again....i''m still pretty sore from tuesday''s workout...but i know if i don''t go kbox tonite i won''t go til monday so i kind of wnat to just do it and then have all weekend to relax.

hope everyone has a fab day!! monarch i did see those red box frozen things at the store but i didn''t try one of those this time around...!! my basket was already full. hehee.

good to see you around here sk8r!! congrats on the weight loss!

It sounds like everyone''s doing well with workouts and eating this week. My eating has been suspect, but my workouts have been going well. I have two workouts down and hope to work out tonight and Friday too. I''ve been running outside, and that''s been going pretty well even with the hot weather. I hope to be able to build up to a half marathon in September, provided nothing derails me!

Good luck everyone with the rest of this week, and especially good luck, Monarch with your walk this weekend!

I got this in email....if it's true, YAK! I'd take real butter anyday!

Differences Between Butter And Margarine

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.

It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavorings.

DO YOU KNOW...the difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very interesting! Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams. Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods. Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine. Very high in Trans fatty acids. Triple risk of coronary heart disease.Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol). Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold. Lowers quality of breast milk. Decreases immune response. Decreases insulin response.

And here's the most disturbing fact.... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC. This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

You can try this yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:

*no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)

*it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weenie microorganisms will not find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

hehehe thanks FG...I figured some was true, some not as typical for those types of things.

I love real butter way more than margarine, I''d rather have 1/2 the amount of real butter than double margarine.

Good luck Monarch! I will be thinking of you this weekend, and hoping the weather is fabulous for walking.

I also *love* pilates. It really increases your flexibility, and for me, my concentration on working specific areas of my body. I really like getting to act like a seal, too!

Ditto to the good luck this weekend Monarch!! You are amazing!

I have been trying to stay on track the past couple of days but the weather had been so muggy it has kept me from working out too hard. This morning the scale reported a two pound loss so that made me happy to see some sort of progress.

Hope everyone has a great evening and is feeling good about themselves.

Hi everyone! Happy Friday! Love reading everyone's storied, advice and hearing of progress on this thread!

Well this has been my first week of really being "hard core" and serious about getting in shape. I'm using a tool on self.com (since I subscribe) that tracks weight loss, foods, calories, percentages, etc. sound like fitday. Its been a blessing to lay it all about and see how not only my calories stack up, but how my nutrition does as well.

Im eating about 1400 calories per day as recommended by my trainer, with about 60% carbs, 20% protein and 20% fat. Im also trying to eat about 5 times a day. Its so hard at first but now I see how I was just absentmindedly eating at times, now that I have cut down, I seem to appreciate my meals more! Im trying to up my water intake which should not be too hard in this awful Northern Virginia 90 degree weather lately, but I hate plain water. I like the flavored calorie free kind, not optimal I know but its a start!

Working out has been good so far. Im shooting for 6 days a week, 5-6 being cardio, 4-5 doing weights and throwing some resistance training, calisthenics and yoga in there. Fridays is my day off! LOL

On Monday DH and I went cycling for 2.5 hours (we are riding in the Tour de Cure this weekend, the charity bike ride for diabetes sponsored by the American Diabetes Association) so we are trying to train, then we hiked to the lake for an hour and took a pedal boat out on the lake with our pooch. She had a great time (and loves to swim!)

Other than that Ive been at the gym with my routine. Im still sore after my workouts but its getting better. Ive only lost about 2 lbs and my goal is about 25 more (goal weight is like Virginia's- 125 lbs.)

Hopefully I will be able to finish the 30+ mile bike ride on Sunday!

Monarch good luck on your walk :) and everyone have a good weekend!

congrats punchie and everyone else on doing so well!! our little group is rockin''!

so last nite we actually splurged a little and got burritos, albeit healthy ones with whole wheat tortilla,s grilled chicken, salsa, rice, beans and some cheese...i figure about 1k calories because they were huge and i looked online for some comparisons. but even with the 1k calorie burrito i was still at 1700 for the day so that part is good. i also did a brisk 1.5 mile walk.

i read something on a self or shape website about how it noted that if you eat exactly the same, aka change nothing about your diet, and weigh 150 lbs...and then you add a 1.5 mile walk into your daily grind, you will lose 10 lbs in a year. so i thought that was interesting that just adding about 200 burnt calories per day and changing nothing else loses about a lb a month. good for someone who doesn''t really have much to lose and just wants to be healthier as well.

today i have been good so far...kashi for breakfast, coffee and then for lunch an erik''s deli sandwich custom made with just turkey, dijon mustard, tomatoes and sprouts...kind of plain but i just wanted something healthy to eat for lunch on the go...and then i am going to an evening kickboxing class and then hopefully out for sushi after! so all in all a good day, and very good week.

hope everyone has a great weekend! GO MONARCH!

As Miss Virgie ordered me back over here I thought I would have a nose and investigate the all new WWT! I am holding steady and it seems like you are all doing a great job!

I have a new clothing discovery with Liz Claibourne polo shirts, they are a lot more fitted than I usually wear and I am pleased with them. I have lost a little more weight recently but have leveled out now, also I am busier outside with the garden, paddocks etc so that makes a difference in strength and muscle tone. I really want to get a treadmill but it would have to go in the garage which isn''t ideal. I can''t walk far due to my back trouble as my legs go dead and it hurts, but maybe I could manage one of those, I will have to see if I can find the room. Plus with actual walking I have to remember I have to walk back if I overdo it and that can be problematic....

Interesting about the butter Mara, I ADORE the stuff ( an inch thick preferably) and have often wondered if it is any more fattening than marg...

Anyway great job everyone and best of luck again tomorrow Monarch! You are an inspiration!

Good, good luck Monarch! I hope you find no pains and pull no muscles!

I was VERY bad today and there is NO way I''m going to do the fitday pie chart. Nope. I don''t need a visual today to know I''ve been naughty.

Sending positive thoughts to Monarch!! She's probably doing fab. It makes me feel all motivated. Well kind of.

Last nite my kbox class did not happen so instead I walked 2.5 miles then caame inside and did a series of jumping jacks alternating with my arm weight lifting...interestingly enough this morning my ab area felt all sore and tight...I wonder if it's from the jumping jacks? They definitely feel like they are working me out....I tried to do sets of 50 alternating with a set of 3 types of arm lifts for about 3-4 sets. So not so bad...

I definitely have seen a REALLY POSITIVE result with the counting/watching of the calories thing in the last 2 weeks especially...and my waist lost another 1/2 of an inch which is nice...I really want to work a little more on my hips which still have a little bit of extra pudge on them...but my belly button is starting to stretch open alot more which is really cool...it doesn't squish together a little like it used to (I know, bad visual!!). Anyway...keep up the good work gals!!

Tonite we are going to a local Greek festival within walking distance of our house so I plan to eat alot of unhealthy food there

...hehee but I may try to walk a few miles today even though it is supposed to be 90.
