Weird call from Tiffany

I bought a Tiffany wedding band on Ebay and dropped it off after I received it and was happy with it to have it sized up a half size. Expected it back this week. Missed a call from their service center with a message to call them back.

I first thought uh oh what is wrong as I have had hit or miss service experiences in the past. Turns out they received the band after finishing service with an Elsa Peretti necklace grouped with it and wanted to ask if the necklace was mine. Nope.

Guess hopefully if someone is missing their necklace they will get to the bottom of it.

Glad your ring came back to you rather than in someone else’s parcel. :oops2:

Thanks, it was an Ebay purchase and not sentimental so I guess if the tables had been turned at least there is that.

My first thought was that it had been damaged during sizing or that maybe it wasn't authentic after all although it passed Ebay's check and the in store check when I dropped it off. It was also due to be finished today so I figured if it got to NY and they decided it wasn't authentic they'd have called before now but I guess you never know.

Hope the necklace find's it's owner. They must have mixed it in in NY because they told me it was not present in the pictures the store did of what I dropped off.

That's a mixup! I imagine that the person who owns the necklace will certainly inquire about where it is if the timeline for repair and return goes overdue.

I find it valuable when we all share our stories, so here's mine:

I have had mixed luck with Tiffany repairs (and that's being generous).

I bought the EP starfish necklace in YG, pre-loved, and took it in to be shortened. Easy peasy they did it perfectly, no charge!

I bought the large dragonfly brooch in platinum and diamonds, (significantly more $ than the necklace mentioned above). After wearing it, and hugging a friend, one of the eye stalks got slightly bent. The eye stalk holds one small bezel set diamond which is the "eye" of the insect. I brought it in for repair. I paid a hefty sum (I don't remember what it was exactly but around $750 USD) to straighten the metal of the antenna and to build up the lip of the bezel around the diamond. I waited while it was shipped to NJ to the mothership repair facility and then back to my local Tiffany. When I went to pick it up, there was absolutely ZERO change to the damage I asked to be repaired. The eye stalk was still bent and the bezel around the eye diamond was still mushed down on one side. So I refused the repair. They sent it back. Another MONTH went by and finally it arrived back at my Tiffany's. The eye stalk was somewhat straightened and the bezel was worked on, but frankly the job looked very amateurish. There was a lot of frayed-looking metal in the bezel overlapping the diamond of the eye. It was very ragged-edged. I sent it back again. Another MONTH. When it came back it was better but not great. I decided to keep it because I felt worn down and just wanted to be done with it all. After all of the back-and-forth the eye stalk, while better, was still somewhat askew. My local Tiffany's manager said she knew how to fix it, so I let her try. She heated the eye stalk up under the hot steam part of their cleaning machine and then took a pair of tiny pliers and slowly straightened it. That worked perfectly! The eye stalk was now straight (after having visited their NJ bench twice which didn't straighten it). Thought the eye bezel was still raggedy-edged.

So, honestly, I am no longer a fan of Tiffany.

Yeah my experiences have been hit or miss as well, here's hoping the ebay band shows up tomorrow from it's resize without any new issues.

... Oh and speaking of weirdness @ TooFunny ...

I used to work in gastroenterology around 20 years ago so unfortunately this isn't my first time seeing jewelry on an xray film. Now I am sitting here remembering the story of the swallowed wedding ring.

My husband also took me to our local Tiffany many years ago after I had recovered enough to leave home after my heart surgery to buy a wedding band I had wanted for a long time. About a week after that a ring was stolen from our local T in a similar manner.

So y'all my ring showed back up today and guess what was with it in a separate pouch?

Yep, the necklace, the one I told them was not mine when they called me last week. Make it make sense.

An industry friend claims that Tiffany mass produces their jewelry in a low cost of living country and the quality isn’t what it used to be. Sounds like their repair center is also sub par.

It’s sad to see a venerable brand fall so far.

I don't disagree. I called the service center to let them know and they told me they would send out a box for me to ship it back but I would need to take it to fedex to drop off. The closest fedex store to me is 35 minutes away. They told me they'd need to get back to me on whether they could schedule it to be picked up from my home, will see what happens.
