Well, I’ve had the vaccine, anyone else?

It's a roller coaster here. Governor kept adding people to the 1A group, delaying vaccines for elders. The elders, 80+, are finally eligible but all organizations doing the vaccinations have halted registrations because there aren't enough doses available and there are a lot of people who are up for the 2nd dose. I'm eligible Mar. 1 but that will likely get delayed due to vaccine shortages. It's frustrating.

I agree @missy! Accidents happen in a flash..Look at my mom...I fall a lot...I’ve been extra careful during covid..I don’t want to wind up in the ER..

Thats exactly why during our lockdown last year most outdoor pursuits and DIY was banned
A week in and we had a freak storm that feeled a tree into the neighbour's yard
While cleaning it up Gary got a nasty gash from being impaled by a branch that would have got infected if he hadn't gone to A&E

Lucky it was very quiet in there at the time

Wow @Daisys and Diamonds..TG Gary is okay..

My husband and I got our second shots of the Moderna vaccine yesterday mid day. Yesterday my arm got increasingly sore and I had terrible chills- I could not get warm, but no fever. This morning I have some muscle and joint aches, headache, lymph nodes hurt in my jawline, but the chills and shivering have decreased. We'll see how I do throughout the day as I think my temp is rising. My husband on the other hand started feeling miserable yesterday evening and then during the night had a full blown case of "flu" symptoms- body aches, temp of 100.6 and that was after taking tylenol, tired and generally miserable. I doubt he'll be getting out of bed much today. He must have a much more robust immune system than I have-lol.

Feel better @pinkjewel and same to your DH.

My parents got their first dose (Pfizer) on Sunday.
My dad (87 in April) had no reaction at all.
My mom had body aches, chills and a slight fever for about 36 hours. First dose. She has many AI conditions and the nurses there told her she might not be as protected from the vaccine as others.

Keeping good thoughts for everyone.

I'm glad your parents got the vaccine. At least it offers some protection even if it's not 100%. My poor hubby got up, stayed up about 5 minutes and then promptly went back to bed. Temp remains 100.6. I talked with my friends this morning who also got their second shot yesterday, but they got the Pfizer. Both are feeling great with no major reaction. It's interesting how reactions are so different.

Ugh..

So there are a few possibilities here.

"Michael says his case is relatively minor. His live-in girlfriend tested positive for COVID-19 five days after he received his second dose of the vaccine."

He wasn't fully protected five days after the second vaccine and most likely his girlfriend had it before she was diagnosed so before 5 days after his second vaccine.

And his case was mild so that vaccine probably helped.

It is discouraging on one hand but encouraging on the other because he had a mild case and also he wasn't yet fully protected by the vaccine because his girlfriend infected him before his vaccine was fully protective/effective.

I saw that @missy..but irrationally it somewhat upsets me...

Not irrational at all. I am disconcerted by this as well. But I guess the idealist in me is hoping very hard that the vaccine will be successful. And the pandemic will end within the year or so...

I get Moderna #2 tomorrow at 10:20 am. If you remember I am 61, no sore arm or anything for a week after #1 then i got the giant lymph node. It’s been 3 weeks with the node and it’s getting smaller. Wish me luck tomorrow!

@AprilBaby I’m sorry I missed where you got a swollen lymph node. What happened? I’m getting mine tomorrow. I’m 67..:oops2: Good luck tomorrow!

@AprilBaby I just went back to read about your swollen lymph node. I’m happy it’s going down. Good luck tomorrow! I’m getting my first tomorrow. I’m a little nervous because my platelets are borderline or dip a little below normal. After reading about the reactions with platelets dropping dangerously low has me a bit nervous..

I got my second dose of moderna yesterday... my symptoms and timeline seem very common to others. Sore arm about six hours later, went to bed feeling otherwise fine... then a lot of tossing and turning last night with aches, chills, and that “I think a fever is coming on” feeling. This morning I also added a headache to the list (no sleep probably didn’t help, hah). I definitely feel “sick,” but I know it’s for a great purpose, so they definitely helps! I took a nap today. :)

I will be thinking of you and hoping you have no adverse effects! What time? I see you are in PA. I was born in Philly and raised in North Wales.

Thank you @AprilBaby..I hope yours goes well too! I hope your lymph node stays small and doesn’t swell up again..My appointment is at 9:45 but it may be delayed or postponed because of snow. I think they may just do a delay. I hope I get it today and they don’t postpone it.

Good luck to those having their jab today, my DH has his first jab tonight, don’t know what he’s getting, but will report back.

Great news @Austina! Do you think you will be able to get yours there too? I hope he does well..
Mine was supposed to be at 9:45 this morning but they made us reschedule because of snow. I was fortunate to get one at 12 noon today.

We are being told in the UK that despite the vaccine there is chance you may still catch the virus, however the vaccination will reduce your illness to mild. As yet they are unsure if you can carry the virus asymptomatically or mildly once vaccinated AND still spread it as easily as it can be spread now. This is why they are telling everyone, vaccinated or not, to act like you have the virus until EVERYONE is vaccinated & offered protection.

Same. We are being told in the USA we need to continue wearing masks and social distancing even after the vaccine. Same reasons you were told. Makes sense. We can still possibly transmit to others who are not yet vaccinated and we still have a small chance of contracting Covid-19 despite being vaccinated. It’s not 100%. Until the pandemic is over we need to continue doing all we have been doing.

I really don’t know @MamaBee. I’m happy to wait my turn, probably 6 weeks time, but as his is the last appt., if they have any left over, they may be willing to do me too.

@AprilBaby My appointment had to be rescheduled due to snow...Fortunately I was one of the lucky ones and was able to reschedule for noon today.
When is your appointment?

10:20 so in an hour I will be there.

#2 done! Painless! Now I wait for symptoms.
