Omg!!! This cannot be from your husband!!!! I refuse to believe it!!!! I've seen the things he's given you over the years!!!!!

Oh it is. I was...maybe stunned is a good word to use, lol. I do have to say though in his defense, he made up for it with some other jewelry pieces.

its kind of pretty in a once a year christmas day kind of way
id stick a big blob of blue tack behind it and use it as a decoration on xmas day on the back of the toilet door or right above the toilet roll holder
and then one year it just gets 'lost' and is never seen again

LOL, I don't know if I'd say it's even once a year pretty. Good ideas though...hmm

Since I'm going to be out of town for the holiday I opened gifts from my parents yesterday. I would like to contribute to this thread a gift from my mother this year: A stun gun. Yes. Really. Welcome to my family!

I bought my daughter pepper spray this year! We go hiking by ourselves a lot and I figured it was time she had one to hook on her water bottle holder. Sure hope we never need it!

Usually Mr. Catmom does quite well on the jewelry front. He knows I collect Christmas pins....... ummm seriously???? LOL, and he was very proud that I now have a reindeer to add to my collection.

I'm so weird, I think it a cute little thing for the holidays. Different strokes for different folks. I don't like cluttered jewelry pieces as a rule but I do like whimsy here and there.

LOL, I can usually do whimsey but this piece just doesn't do it for me, lol.

Alrighty back home from my family’s place (that inspired this thread). No big doozies like last time but still some oddball things:

1. Weird version of earmuffs but no headband - just these weird things you put on your ears.


2. A book on travel hacks with mind blowing advice such as “roll your jeans instead of folding them” and a pair of scissors that cut chicken. (These were from the same person):


3. Chex mix (sort of?)




4. Sierra club back pack. Not bad but the letter was inside that said “thank you for your donation to the Sierra Club, here’s your free backpack” LOL

I had some of the almost earmuff things, and they popped off with no warning. Probably because I had long hair, and was wearing a bit winter coat with a collar that touched the earmuffs? They were a "fail" in my opinion. Good idea, poor results IRL.

For Xmas 2022 husband gifted me a solitaire ring with a F IF 1.7 ct diamond : he knows nothing about diamonds, so he spent a little fortune on a deep diamond ...

I gently explained him that the lack of sparkle, which is obvious also to him, was due to bad cut, so he went back to the local jeweller and asked him to find another diamond within the proportions I suggested...I don't know if the jeweller is really willing to source another diamond because he insisted on telling that the diamond has a ex ex ex HRD certificate so it's a top cut di

I have mixed feelings.
I'm upset because
- he knows I'm good selecting diamonds, so he could have asked me to help him before purchasing by himself;
- he went with a local jeweller knowing that money can't be refound;
- once again I'm getting a crappy gift;
- I cannot get out my head how much profit he could have gained if he invested the money instead of buying a diamond.

But I also feel resignated to getting wrong gifts from him: he's a good man, he loves me and I love him, that's what really counts.

If a refund isn't in the cards, (as the money is spent) place it towards getting a diamond you want. You have that ability. And choice. You can negotiate with the jeweller because putting a ring in the drawer solves nothing.

Notwithstanding the price tag, your dissatisfaction is not worthless.

I hope you can get a nicer diamond from the jeweller. @purplesilk. Please try to actively pursue other options with the jeweller, while this is still a recent purchase. Don’t wait for the jeweller to call you. Don’t keep the diamond in a drawer….
