from 89-92....

acid washed guess jeans with safety pins at the ankles to taper them or zippered!

keds with scrunchy socks that matched your top!!! i have this picture of me from school with a bright red mickey mouse top on and acid washed jeans, srunchy big red socks and white keds. oh yeah it's charming.

stretchy stirrup pants with long button down flannel shirts, so unflattering!!

big poufy front bangs with lots of hairspray

billabong denim patterned shorts, i had this one wild white pair with pastel florals all over it and you folded them up a few times over the knee!

torn sweatshirts so that a shoulder showed ala flashdance

colored hoop earrings, aka talking turquoise and fuschia here people!
40.gif

matching scrunchies to either your earrings or your socks/top.

and i remembered this the other day but can't remember if it was HS or college, maybe the end of HS...wearing mens striped rugby shirts from jcrew over the stirrups? haha i so did it!

oh ETA one more...stretchy non-denim material items, but patterned to be made to look like denim. I had this long dress that looked like acid washed denim but was really strechy polyester or something and a tacky ass matching belt with it...omg it's horrible.

OMG Island Dreams I totally forgot the BANANA CLIPS.....I had like 4 of them and yes had to still have the big front pouffy bangs...LOL!

Eastland loafers with the laces tied into weird knots, and you had to have a pair in all of the colors. Keds. The jeans that buttoned closed and then they had a big top on them and it flipped over to a different fabric. Oh, and the MC Hammer type pants......I feel so old now!

Mara-I think I have the twin of that picture somewhere...there is a picture of me standing in front of my first car (1987 red Chevette) with a red mickey mouse sweatshirt, acid wash jeans tunked into red scrunchy socks and white keds. How very scary!

I graduated from HS is 2001. The must have items were:
-computer with internet access in your room, had to be able to talk online all night this was my AIM SN then and still is
-car that cost too much (my SLK was not impressive),
-knee high leather boots
-Discman
-Cell phone
-North Face Denali fleece
-addias exercise clothes for PE
-LV bags (I was given one my senior year and still feel like I am not old enough to carry it even though nearly everyone I see on campus has at least one LV bag. I don’t like things where you know the brand at a glance, makes me feel odd.)
-A&F Jeans
-Tiffany’s Heart charm bracelet (I had the circle…hearts were cheesy.)
-RL Pony Polos
Mat

bunch of spoil brats

Marvel-I did forget a few items. I'm having 'flashbacks' reading the new posts.

Starset Princess-Yes!! I loved my add a bead necklace. Did you also do the add a pearl? And I had rings on all my fingers. What us, tacky, never
20.gif

Libster-I HAD THE RED SWOOSH NIKES TOO!!!! I was the FIRST one in school to have them. And 'Nothing comes between me and my Calvins' Oh, the controversy surronding that ad. Seems tame in this day and age.

Fire&Ice-I bet if You, Libster and I compared yearbook pics we wouldn't be able to tell each other apart. How funny that our cloths and accesssories were so 'REGIONAL'. I'm from Southeast Tennessee. How about you guys?(er, ya'll)?

Mara-AAACCCKKKK....You HAD to remind me of Acid Wash jeans and safety pins!!!!!!
32.gif
And those embarrassing scrunchy socks that on a short person as myself was NOT a good look
38.gif
. And don't even get me started on the Flashdance tops!!!How many of us took scissors to brand new sweat shirts in the name of FASHION?????

Dancing Fire-I love this thread!! Thanks for the memories. I think I'll put on my scrunchy socks and dance to 'Footloose'

Class of ''82 must-have: tickets for Led Zeppelin''s 1980-81 North American tour.

Had ''em in my hot little hands....till John Bonham decided to have 40 shots of vodka for breakfast one morning. R.I.P. Bonzo.....

Great thread DF, thanks for the (fuzzy) memories....

OMG this thread is cracking me up! Mara I SO wore mens rugby shirts over stirruos! (shudder)

Pebbles I am having so many QOP flashbacks here! LOL!

1990-1994:

Z cavaricci pants with "pegged" bottoms
Guess or LA Gear Jeans
Anything Esprit...bookbags, scrunchies with the Esprit tag hanging out, Esprit ribbed shirts
Birkenstocks
Banana clips or wearing multiple scrunchies at once
Big hair, big bangs and spiral perms
Penny loafers with a nickel stuffed in the pocket on the front
Colored jeans, especially navy, brick red or hunter green
Huge colored hoop earrings...I had them in red, green, fuschia, etc... LOL!
Acrylic nails and colored contact lenses
Rings on every finger

And of course you HAD to have your boyfriends class ring, wrapped in the back with yarn to make it fit on your much smaller finger, and also have his high school jacket.

OH have mercy I had a pair of those! Yuck!

omg Punchie I forgot about the penny loafers, my friend had a pair of those!!

and the letter jacket is always a high school staple!

OH i just remembered something else that was SOOO cool then....a total must-have:

those little acrylic 2x3 see through/clear keychain two-sided picture frames, you put a picture of your boyfriend on one side and your best friends on the other and clipped it on your backpack so everyone could see them....and also clipping all sorts of other crap to your backpack too, those big gobs of keychains and pictures people always had on their backpacks. HAHAHA.

and he''s "STAIR WAY TO HEAVEN"....LOL

OK, I wasn''t going to admit to it, but I was one of the first (in 4th grade) to wear hot pink hi-top Reeboks with two pairs of scrunch sox in purple and pink ( and yes, you spelled "socks" s-o-x.)

And we also wore leggings with "oversized" sweatshirts. Unfortunately, today when I read the Chicago Sun-Times fashion section, leggings were making a comeback. I guess this means I''m officially old.

Thanks, DF. Now I''m going to browse my online plastic surgery options.

Just kidding!

Just to go with the whole keychain thing, I remember having so many keychains for my car keys. I think I spent more on the wad of keychains than I did on the entire car! My boyfriend used to tell me I was going to pull the ignition out of the car from the weight of the keychains. I can''t belileve I forgot about the matching socks and scrunchy and shirts! I so did that. I even try to get my daughter to match socks now and she looks at me like I am a nut job!

The South...Where Big hair STILL rules

I''m sure the ozone layer in the South is in a more fragile state than any where else.

Unfortunatly, we still have alot of ''80''s hangers on'' in my town.

Graduated high school in Beverly Hills in 1994 - if you didn''t have a BMW or Mercedes, you were nobody.

So, I didn''t exist with my Chevy Blazer

I also grew up in Beverly Hills and graduated from HS in 1993 (I didn't go to Beverly, though). I went to a very progressive, artsy private school in Santa Monica. I remember being into used clothing -- vintage dresses and jackets. I also loved sneakers -- Vans, Jack Purcells, Converse. The place to shop was Fred Segal, a very expensive LA clothing store I now find totally disgusting. Ugh -- I am so glad HS is over! And I'm even more glad I no longer live in BH!!!!!

Guilty as charged - embarrassed to admit - until a few years ago. But, I still wear a headband!

Me, Research Triangle, Piedmont Triad & VA - below N. VA.

Though - I''m a NYC ex pat. Early on I remember wearing Peanut Pants - anyone remember them? Sure should jog the mind - low slung pants with a flared bottom worn with a top that would just meet the pants - SOUND FAMILIAR -

What goes around comes around. And, not sure about this spring - but last spring summer - pink & green made a come back

This is a fun thread. The must haves extend beyond high school
