What are the numbers on my earring posts?

I have a pair of 1ctw diamond stud earrings, six prong basket, white gold. I bought them from a diamond jewelry seller, mostly higher end stuff on eBay some time ago. They seem to be well cut and well matched stones, arrows evident even to me!

My question is this: each diamond screw post has what looks like a serial number engraved on it. Who does that? Is there any way to track it down? And could it mean the diamonds are EGL or GIA or ? Or just that they're from so-and-so jewelry store?

If it helps with recognition at all, the numbers are E428030 and E plus another hard to read number.

Any ideas?

i have no definite advice except that i would suspect they don't relate necessarily to the diamonds but to the settings themselves. so that if the buyer returned them the original maker would see the serial number know they are in fact the earrings that they sold and they hadn't been switched out. i would think a GIA code would be laser inscribed on the diamond itself.

my diamond from OWD has a 3 digit number laser inscribed on its girdle i believe so they can determine it is the actual diamond they have sold in case of returns or upgrades. i would think its the same situation with the studs. but someone can correct me if I'm wrong

Hmmm doubt I could see any numbers on the girdle. Wonder what jewelry store?

Hi

Diamond Screw post has serial number? - I think it could be the sku number of the store, usually its done to keep the track
of the own product, companies give return policy or upgrade policy at that time these number help them track in there system
in my opinion. Is this GIA or EGL? I don't think so, there is a way to verify the diamond on the site of EGL USA & GIA, you could inpute
the certificate number(serial number) and the carat weight, follow the link below, it will help you.

Those aren't GIA or AGSL numbers.

My guess would be manufacturer codes - I can't see the average jewellery retailer marking pegs and posts with IDs!
