We just got a Kitchenaid despite the news reports of them catching fire. My dad installed it today. The first load appears to have been great and quiet, this second one is a little louder, but that might be something in the way. I opened it twice to make sure nothing was sticking up or out and it seems ok. So we'll see if a third load does anything differently. I only had three things that didn't get well cleaned but they were crusty going in, and were kind of my "test" items. I only ran it on "normal" not heavy duty or pot scrubber. So that's really great for power so far.

It suggests and included those Finish Quantum packet things with the little red ball, and then Jet Dry liquid, which my old one didn't have a place for. My mother in law uses costco liquid cascade stuff, costco brand I mean. And she never really has issues. My parents are using the Finish stuff theirs recommended also.

Just curious.

Um, we have an LG undersink one (due to our kitchen layout, this is the ONLY option we have). I guess LG is the only company that makes it. We are actually hoping to get a new one this year since it's soooooooo loud.... omg. Well, at least to my parents whisper quiet one!

We use cascade but lately target brand soap. We only have problems with dirty dishes if I leave gobs of peanut butter on the knives ::)

We use the orange Cascade packets.

I LOVE the Finish Powerball tablets. I have yet to use anything better. Mr. Monarch likes to buy cleaning agents at the Dollar Store, and when we ran out of the Finish Powerball things, I used the dollar store dishwasher gel he brought home. Almost all of the dishes in the two loads I did with out came out just as dirty as when they went in (and this is after having rinsed them thoroughly before putting them in the DW.) No comparison. Do not use the cheap stuff!

We have a Maytag dishwasher and I use Cascade dish washing soap.

Walmart brand, and about a quarters size amount in each soap cup. We have a well and use a water softener, which makes our basica house water soft. Softer water=less soap needed. If you use more soap, too much soap, etc you can etch your dishes and put a haze on your glasses. The small amount we use in our current arrangement gets our dishes really nice and clean. I suggest using white vinegar as a excellent rinse aid too, its cheap and does the job. Just like using unsweetened kool aide lemonaide packets makes for a good empty dishwasher cleaner no joke!

At the moment I'm using Finish Quantum, because I was able to buy it cheaply, and it does a good job. I only seem to notice a difference if I use really cheap stuff.

You do have to bear in mind that Finish pays money to be recommended by the dishwasher brands, not necessarily because it's better.

A word of caution: we were using the detergent packets and our dishwasher started leaking after about 6 months. I went online to do a bit of research to figure out what was going on. I found a blog by an appliance repairman and the first troubleshooting suggestion was, "if you are using detergent packets, stop. They can cause the dishwasher to leak."very strange, but we started using cascade powder and we haven't had problems since!

My dishwasher is around 10 years old it is a Whirlpool Gold and we were using store brand soap and noticed the dishes werent getting clean so we have since changed back to liquid cascade and my dishes are getting much cleaner now.

I've had a Whirlpool Quiet Partner V (extremely quiet) for almost 3 years and use Cascade liquid. I run 1 cycle about every 2 months using Dishwasher Magic and it keeps my dishwasher in tip top shape.

We have a Miele (5 years old - still as quiet as the day it was installed) and alternate between Cascade or Finish soft gel packs. Depends on what Costco has on sale when we need them! Mainly we need to top up on Jet Dry to keep water spots off the glasses. We have a well and water softener, so we have 'issues'!!

We just got a new Maytag dishwasher. It came with samples of the Finish packets, with the little red ball in the middle. It works well so we've been just buying that plus JetDry.

Love those finish tablets!! They work better than anything else I've tried.

There have been fires in the Kitchenaids?? Ours is about 6-7 months old and doing fine. It's the quietest one we've ever had and we did have another Kitchenaid at our last house. We use Cascade gel packs. I use plain vinegar instead of Jet Dry. Our water is normal, not hard water. All in all it's been my favourite dishwasher so far (except the stainless steel always needs cleaning!). Works great and holds a ton of stuff.

Yep. At least 400 reported and at least that many suing Whirlpool because they have not recalled or acknowledged any issues. They're always in the control panel. My parents got theirs about 8 months ago and so far no fires, but I just found out from my mom that their neighbor's house fire last month was caused by their Kitchenaid that is the exact one that I just had installed. :o Their insurance company is suing Whirlpool over it in addition to that class action that the neighbors joined.

Not exactly comforting!

Now I'm freaked out. :errrr: I guess from now on we're only going to run it while we're home and awake. Wouldn't want to risk the dogs if we were out. I don't know what else we could do. So many models are affected. We might call the store. We have an extended warranty on it. Thanks for the heads up. We were using it mostly at night right at bedtime. Fire alarm would have caught it immediately at least.

My dad and I sprayed all sorts of that fireproof orange insulation foam around the area in the kitchen it's in, but we definitely won't be letting it run overnight or when we are gone.

We use the Finish powder in our Miele. I don't use the packets because we have soft water and don't need that much detergent. We used to use Cascade powder but that etched our glasses. Once we switched, etching was no longer a problem.

Most of ours are etched bec my DH drinks/drank a TON of mountain dew. If he let it sit without rinsing it out after he was done, we have lines about 1" from the top edge. Eventually we will toss them when they all break.

We use the green ones. Love them! I actually love anything that makes my life a little easier.

I use the Finish tablets. I was using the Stop N Shop generic tablet but everything came out spotted so I switched.
