I bought a Barry bridgestock pink tourmaline round and accidentally bought the wrong size for my ring... So I'm thinking, if I don't resell it, setting it in a simple pendant setting. Never having owned one before, what color gold sets it off best?

Thanks!

there are lots of pinks......w/o a picture of your particular pink stone, its hard...for me at least...to make a suggestion. pictures?

I'm horrible at figuring out how to upload pics but I'll try!

Do you have a hand shot? I am leaning towards 14K yellow as of now from that single picture. Do you have a variety of metals on hand that you can use for a simple test? White metal, yellow metal and a shiny "copper" penny? Set the stone in a nest of a particular metal (bunched up necklace) to see which one looks best.

I don't yet have a hand shot...
But I set it in plat (yuck), and 14k white (again, yuck), so I'll dig out some yellow gold next. It looks dark in the white metals for some reason.

I have a tourmaline about that color set in peach gold with a white shank. Peachy gold is the best!

Oooh, I like that, Kelpie. Very pretty. Lucyruth, judging from the color I see on my monitor, I think rose gold would be too much; would consider yg if it were me.

Kelpie,
I'll never get tired of seeing your beautiful ring.

I agree with Chrono - 14kt yellow gold would look lovely. I have a tourmaline set in a yellow gold ring and it really brings out the pink and gives it a nice glow.

What is "peach" gold? I've heard of White, Yellow, Rose, Red, Green, and Purple gold. I've not yet seen Peach gold!

Thanks all. Love that magnificent ring! I'm agreeing that yellow gold would be fab. Not sure how to have it set but will look at the books at the jeweler to see his available settings I guess....

It's somewhere between rose and yellow. It reminds me of the alloy used in victorian times. Mine is the 18k from hoover and strong which says it's .752 gold, copper, silver, zinc, silicon.

Green and purple? I need an illustrated guide with correlating pantone shades to these, please! ;D

I like some of the gold colors posted. I'd go with something yellow or peachy myself.

Kelpie, that ring is amazing.

Oh, I hadn't thought of argentium silver... But I think this stone (if I keep and have it set) needs yellow gold or similar!
But I'm going to think about silver too... Hmmm.

I'd go with the 14K YG if it were my ring. Kelpie's ring is amazing !!! That would definitely be a dream stone/setting/ring, in my mind!!!

If you don't like it with a white metal (white gold or platinum), you will not like it in silver either. If anything, silver is even whiter than the other two and the contrast will be more obvious.
