Planning on upgrading my engagement ring & I’m wondering what I should do with my current one.

I currently have a 0.3ct platinum solitaire with diamond shoulders. I’m thinking about keeping it (though it does seem a bit of a waste) or perhaps turning it into a solitaire pendant.

What did you do? Would love to see photos!

When my husband gifted me another ring for our 5th year anniversary years ago, I bought a diamond from BN to match the stone and had them set as a pair of earrings (.26carat).. I know which one is my original engagement diamond and wear that earring on my left ear most days! :)

Sold it. Put it on consignment and got basically all the money back. Tried to turn it into a pendant first but it kept flipping and that was annoying.
 
At first I thought of selling it but it has more sentimental value than what someone was willing to pay for it. I kept it and turned it into a diamond pendant necklace. I don’t regret keeping it, in fact I end up wearing the necklace more often than the new ring.

@Happytobemrsg, I let my oldest daughter wear mine on her right finger when she got married. It was only a .20ct solitaire in a 4 prong setting, and I loved it. I later had it reset for her in a love knot design.
 
I kept mine since it used my grandmother's stone. I keep it in a pretty velvet box and visit it every so often. I plan on at least offering it to my daughter in the future. But if she doesn't want it I'll keep holding onto it since it's very sentimental.

If you're willing to buy another stone that matches your original engagement stone, you could always do a three stone - past, present, future - ring.
 
Congrats on your upgrade! I got a matching diamond and created stud earrings that I wear daily. I really like the idea of a necklace too and actually considered it, but I switch necklaces pretty often and wanted to wear it often due to the sentimental value. A right hand ring is another option. From left to right: 2.73ct upgraded e-ring, earring stud match, and original e-ring diamond stud (approx. 2ctw).784197

P.S: I have multiple piercings. :)) It's the one on my 3rd lobe, next to a .40 on the 2nd. My ear is not meant to be photographed I think. lol67CB34F4-4955-489B-8D14-9AF91BF51D7E.jpeg
 
I removed the stone and sold it on consignment.

i have 3 pairs of ear piercings so I'm always intetested to see how others style theirs
your's is perfect

i love the wee one at the top
im too much of a woose to get one up there
 
I only upgraded in color and not size so I was able to put the new stone into my original setting. I set my original stone into a bezel and made it into a necklace that I wear almost everyday now. I think a RHR would have been nice too but I love my necklace.

Thank you. :) I swap main lobe earrings now and again but this one is my favourite at the moment. Oh I'd love to see your ear too!

And yeah cartilage piercings are not the easiest ones to heal but so worth it for me. (Have on both! lol)

I've been finding mask wearing and earing wearing too hard
i hope my piercings havn't closed up again

Ahh yes new piercings and mask wearing! Arrgh, not a great combo! I hope yours are still open.. Apart from lobes, my earrings have flat backs or ball backs and it doesn't get stuck like butterfly backs.

P.S. Would also love to see how you style yours. :)

mine are boring
and ill tell you a big ugly yucky secrete
so ive just been wearing below average mall yellow gold diamond studs
but i didn't know there are different post sizes and basically the eaeing posts are too thick
i had nothing but trouble
anyway they were really pussie and gross so i took them out and put them in a glass of store brought water (our water is very hard here) and a squeeze of sunlight dishwashing liquid
and i left them
the water was so gross
i left them so long the water evaporated and the pussie residue crystalized
i just feel out of love of those mall diamonds
anyway the other day i thought i better wash the glass
gross me out !
yuck !
but the earings were fine - still needing a clean of course

So the earrings are now back in a new glass of store brought water with a drop of sunlight liquid (we don't get dawn here - sunlight has no moistirizer)

see i have never liked studs with butterflies
i like dangles
but ive also only warm faahion earrings from the accessories counter for most of the last 30 years
sigh
im trying but failing on being a grown up

i have 3 pairs of piercings because ...

And i do need to go shopping at lightbox
as my mall diamonds litterly shrunk before my eyes and i just lost interest in them
but tomorrow i must put some in - as it really hurt last time after I'd left it for too long

I love justifying why I have piercings too. haha And what an event, it's like a surprise science experiment! lol
 
I reset my engagement stone with new sides in yellow gold. It feels so updated!
 
I actually still wear my original wedding set even though I’ve had a few upgrades. It was an inexpensive ring but definitely has sentimental value to me so I rotate it in.
