What did you do with your old engagement ring when you upgraded?

Bezeled and haloed it for a pendant. It was a .37

Sure! I have 2 threads on 2 different bezeled necklaces.

This one is my engagement stone - it’s a vintage asscher.

This one is just a necklace I had made - it’s a .5 ct AVR

Wow both look stunning. I have a crush on that bezel! :)

Planning on upgrading my engagement ring & I’m wondering what I should do with my current one.

I currently have a 0.3ct platinum solitaire with diamond shoulders. I’m thinking about keeping it (though it does seem a bit of a waste) or perhaps turning it into a solitaire pendant.

What did you do? Would love to see photos!

My mother had a .33 ct diamond as her original e-ring. She had an emerald pendant made and used the e-ring diamond as an accent on it. That diamond looks larger and more impressive as an accent to that pendant than it did in her original e-ring. Her original e-ring setting was a platinum illusion head and plain shank. She wore that ring out and it's not repairable but she kept it for sentimental reasons.

mine went into a earring....it was only 0.18

I still have mine, it sits in my jewelry box. The princess cut diamond in my solitaire is chipped on every corner, I wore the solitaire and a band from Zales for ten years. Never took them off.

I kind of love that it has obvious wear, I think of all the things I did wearing those rings and the stories they could tell.

Mine went into a solitaire pendant that I tend to wear 24/7

I put the center diamond into a bezel set pendant and the princess cut side stones I used to make an eternity band. There were small round diamond melee that were also in the setting and I just kept them.

I put the .56 ct. diamond in a bezel pendant. I wore it often for years. Then, sold it last year to a woman through eBay. After she received it, she messaged that she was so happy with it as it was the third she purchased. She intended to wear it in rotation with the other necklaces and in a few years, give the necklaces to her 3 granddaughters. The ring setting was purchased by a PSer for a colored stone after sitting unworn for over 10 years. It makes me happy that they are getting worn and the love they deserve.IMG_8527 copy.jpeg

I have 2 ideas/suggestions:

1) I had my original e-ring stone (1ct emerald cut, E, VS1) reset into a right hand ring. Original setting was platinum with baguettes. Very classic, but never really “me.” I also didn’t think is showed this particular size/cut stone to its best advantage.
I’m still very sentimental about it and wanted to wear the stone often if not every day.
New setting is east/west, bezel, 14K yellow gold. I often wear it stacked with a 3.25~ish ct platinum eternity band.

2) I set my great grandmother’s diamond (from her second husband, not my great grandfather) into a bezel set pendant.
Diamond is a little over .5ct, the bezel is 14k white, chain is 14k yellow.

I didn’t upgrade my original stone but I did upgrade my e-ring, with the expert and amazing help of Maytal Hannah. I got a completely new setting that added 2 side stones while retaining the halo I loved so much about my ring 20 years ago. That left my original setting, devoid of the stone, that I couldn’t bear to part with. A year after the upgrade, I contacted Maytal again to see about removing the crown and turning my 3-sided pave band into an extra wedding band. It came out even better than I imagined and even though I never used to wear a band with my original setting, I now always wear this band. It’s like old and new, past and present, on my finger at once! Here are some shots of the before afters! E2F7C71A-2DFA-4485-AAAE-C7BFA05A80ED.jpegBD390226-37FE-4414-B297-0EC3532E832C.jpeg
