What did your realtor give you as a housewarming gift?

Well, I was pleased that our realtor sent us a little snowman doorhanger thingie during the holidays (about 6 months after we''d closed), but reading this thread I am a bit dismayed to know that it is sort of a usual thing for realtors to gift their clients...and that snowman thing doesn''t really hold a candle to a Tiffany keyring! Ok, I''m finished feeling like dirt here. I will be making sure hubby looks for a new realtor though. It''s not like we bought a house in the hood for crying out loud!

Gifts simply aren''t customary here. But from reading here, I like the gifts that show the realtor was paying attention to the clients. A bottle of wine would be seen as insulting to us, we don''t drink or allow it in the house....
An odd idea for clients that have moved in from some distance: a researched booklet for services, perhaps even one your reality creates. It would be great to move in, and have a list of sources for good landscaping, carpenters etc...without having to worry about overcharging or shoddy work.

Monarch -- Oh no! I never meant for this thread to make any one feel bad! Please look at the positive side, your realtor was thinking of you over the holidays and sent you a gift to let you know that. So sorry...

And Reader, you raise an interesting point. I am very careful to try to make sure my gift would not offend the recipient. I had a closing a few weeks ago where I knew the buyers did not drink (although they told me they sometimes use wine in cooking). Well, no House Wine for them! (But I did get them other appropriate gifts). And I really like your idea about providing a list of "resources" to the buyer, especially if they come from another location. I do give references for services (painters, etc.) if the client asks for it, but I think I'll take your advice and work on getting a list together.

If I have clients moving from out of town I buy them a Thomas Bros. guide . . . they like that . . .
