This is really random, but I go to crimelibrary.com a lot and read about famous crimes and murders. It''s kind of morbid of me, but I love reading about the trials and such.

I research a lot of times just pick a random character throughout history and decide to read autobiographies.

Do you know what else is fun? I like going to wikipedia and clicking "random article" to learn about something I may have not even known about before!

I''m a research bug! I just started subscribing to that new consumer reports for women, its fantastic!
I didn''t know such a thing existed!

My mom teases my dad because before any new purchase, big or small, my dad calls out "WAIT, let''s see what Consumer Reports has to say about this." He''s a research junkie too.

This thread made me think of when I was growing up (and later in high school college, and then grad school). I was the kid in class who MUCH rather do some sort of written report or paper rather than do an oral report/presentation. I always had a hard time writing personal narratives because that called for me to be reflective (I STILL don''t keep a diary or journal to this day, for that reason). I wasn''t into that. Give me a topic (of the non-fiction kind, please) and I was off and running. Now reading books for pleasure, on the other hand, I prefer fiction. I know, random tangent...

I''m another that likes to research everything! I adore researching holidays, hotels, restaurants, jewellery, house items, things for my veterinary course....just give me a project and I''ll be in my elements researching it. All of my friends and family come to me for their holidays plans though especially if it''s to NY as I love researching NY.

Wow! It's like I have finally found my people!!

I am a researcher by trade (academic social psychology), but even there my colleagues aren't always like me researching everything and anything! Like all of you I research the heck out of whatever I am obsessed with...

DD,

I just reread your posting and I think you hit on a key point here. For someone really to be "one of us" he must stick out from the crowd, even among savvy Internet users. He must be the person people think of when they want someone to look something up on the Internet. I know that my family expects me to be able to find the best doctor for anyone, even though I have no medical background. I also know that my husband, whose credentials in his own fields are very impressive, has sometimes asked me to look up something that one would think he would look up. I pride myself on my ingenuity, too. Sometimes I just think of a way around a seeming dearth of information, perhaps by using a language other than English to get me into a whole new area.

I am fascinated by everyone else's responses. Please keep writing about what you research and also how you do it! This is, indeed, a wonderful topic; thank you for starting it, ZoeB.

I forgot to add two major ones: animals (what kind of breeds of dogs and cats would fit the lifestyle I will be leading in the next few years, how to have a cat and keep my mildly-allergic boyfriend) and serial killers. Weird, I know, but I become completely fascinated by things I can''t understand and want to learn all about them.

I also love looking up the answers to obscure questions that nobody really cares about (what came first, the chicken or the egg, you ask? Why, the egg, of course!).

Pssst: try long-haired miniature dachshunds (like in my avatar) they are little and very cat-like in size and fluffiness but they are hypoalergenic, that''s why we got them! Cat-loving me + allergic DH!

what kind of dog to get (golden doodle!), where to live next, interior design, fashion, travel, diamonds, autism, etc, etc lol

I highly recommend adding Stumble Upon to firefox! you can choose what your interests are and then click the stumble button and brings up a website of your interest! but warning...it becomes VERY addictive!

Has anybody seen that show the "Shopping Bags". It''s these two ladies that research and test a bunch of products and tell you the best one for the money. I love it and they''ve made some great recommendations.

I''m going to check out the mag Blue Jeans was talking about...
Here''s the link if anyone is interested
http://www.shopsmartmag.org/

What''s funny is that I have purchased this magazine in the past! I never realized it was consumer reports!! Thanks BlueJeans!

Thanks AGBF!!! I love seeing what others are interested in learning about.
