when you store jewelry you aren’t wearing, whether an off site safety deposit box or a safe at home, what do you store it in? The original jewelry box, a storage unit? what?

Thanks.

But what do you put the actual item in?

My husband suggested a tackle box lol. It has a lot of organizational units within it.

Because I'm hella Chinese:

These are what Chinese jewelers typically use for your purchases in lieu of a box. My mom collected a ton over the years and they're great for the safe deposit box - low profile, protective.

Some rings are in these teeny, tiny boxes, though I'm thinking of replacing them with more silk pouches to maximize space.

I use silk pouches, small ziplock bags (2x2, or 3x3), small drawstring suede pouches, and two ring cases that hold 24 rings each.

The real stuff?
I have a large jewelry safe that is bolted into the basement. No one, not even DH knows the combo. LOL. Some is kept at the safety deposit box and anything bulky and paperwork is there.
jewelry is kept in the boxes that came with it from the jewelry store.

the fake stuff ?
like the etsy stuff and the like whether it is Sterling, kids dress up stuff and costume stuff hangs on the pegboard and is organized by what it is ( i.e. bracelet necklace etc ) so I can pick what I want with different outfits. It is fun letting the young ones come and play dress up with the fake / fashion stuff.

The young ones love it. Here are some of the “fashion” bracelets - no real gold and pearls are freshwater or fake ( nothing expensive)

I do pouches too. So many pouches but it doesn't make things easy to find. I have all the original boxes too unless they got damaged or didn't come with a traditional box. I tend not to use them though as I find pouches easier to manage. I use the chinese ones and the red velvet pouches from Cartier mostly. btw I don't have a safe and use my moms very chinese method!!!

Honestly? Nothing! Usually my regular-wear items are in the small box in my room, but when I gather things to put in the safe I tend to just lay the necklaces out and put them and rings and earrings on a piece of paper. That's just for a few days when we will be out of town, etc. If it lives in the safe it's in it's original box.

I use BB & B Jewelry stackers. The entire thing fits into the safe when I need it to.

Ok, I was thinking of something like this, thanks.

I use a clear tackle box. It works perfectly!

I use paper towels & roll the item in it then single layer the items in a zip baggie. If I need another layer, I'll start with a new baggie. The box I have is quite thin and I had to be creative. Not fancy by any stretch but it works & I can store more in it that way. I do have some of the silk pouches too but only 1 has a little zip on top. The others don't & stuff falls out.

My method is similar to this. I still have all of the original ring boxes, in a drawer with the paperwork. I can’t bear to part with them. However, I’m interested in the old, vintage boxes, too....have my eye on several! :lol-2:

I have a ring box at home with all my stackers. I wear my tennis bracelet, pendant, watch and RHR all-day, every day. Everything else is in safe deposit box. The bank is super close. I guess I'd wear stuff more if it were in a safe at home, but that's just what I do - zero worries for theft. I always seem to have people/workers around the house etc. Kids forget to always lock up too!!
I've got every original box, but the items are in tissue/ziplocks in my bank box.

My frequently worn pieces are in a PurseN travel jewelry case in a small wall safe in a closet.

Everything else is in Container Store jewelry stackable trays in a large gun safe.

My mother uses a clear tackle box and loves it.

I gave my wife a nice wooden jewelry box a couple of decades ago. She actually keeps the box out of the safe for her inexpensive pieces and uses two of the drawers with the velveted cubicles with her nicer pieces to put in the safe.

I misread the title of this thread... but I'll respond as though I hadn't -

Need a safe? There's a bank for sale down the road from me. Upstate NY, so a bit of a hike for most of y'all, but... a fully-outfitted Trustco location with vaults can be yours for a mere $50k.

Which is... not an unreasonable cost for an exceptionally well-designed and well-implemented home security/safe system.

People can't steal what they can't see. Strongly recommend hidden safe room for guns, jewelry, etc. If built right, can also serve as a panic room in the event of an emergency.

Omg..... I don’t think you have to worry about anyone breaking into your house!!!!!!

I bought little jewelry/bead zip lock bags on Amazon...a hundred in a pack.I put one earring in one bag and then take that bag and insert it into another zip lock bag with the other earring so they’re together but separated so they don’t scratch each other. All my jewelry is in a large jewelry roll that has clear plastic zip pouches so I can see through it somewhat...but I usually put all the good stuff in one zipped compartment. I like to take it all out and sift through to see what I want to wear. It’s easy because they’re all in the little baby baggies. :roll2: I have quite a bit of jewelry and by keeping them in the little bags..you would be surprised how much you can store in that roll up bag. Now..how I hide it is a little weird but very effective..haha..I have a drawer in my kitchen that has cling wrap, wax paper, aluminum foil, etc. I have an empty parchment paper box that I shove the roll in and stick it in my drawer with all the cling wrap..etc. When we go away I climb on a ladder and put it in the top recess of the kitchen cabinets. You can’t get to it without a ladder..I figure if they want to run in and grab they’re not going to go find my ladder. I leave a few pieces of jewelry out that I won’t cry about so they can grab and leave!

A friend of mine built her store in an old bank building. I wish I had been able to buy one when I started my business instead of renting. $50k disappears PDQ when paying rent, especially rent with a percentage of sales kicker, which all of the landlords seem to believe that they deserve.

There's a bank in the lobby of the building where I work. I have a box there where I keep everything that isn't worn every day. If I want to switch out, I just go to the bank. Everything is in the original box or in velvet boxes I've purchased from eBay.

For the pieces that I wear every day I use the jewelry stackers from the container store. One earring each in their own holes. My watch in the long hole. Necklaces in the rest of the holes. I put my rings on velvet fake fingers by the sink.

I have one of the chinese silk purses for my mom's pearls. They're almost 60 years old and still look brand new.

I keep some fake stuff in a jewelry box "hidden" in cabinet in the bathroom. I hope that any potential thieves steal that and leave the rest alone. (I also keep pain meds at the bank and leave just a few at home)

Phew, good thing I didn't show you a picture of VEPR 12 semi-auto shotty. Ooops too late. Locked & loaded baby. Got a few 12 round mags and 25 round drums, just in case the boogey man brings friends. ;)2

No, neither video is me.
