I had a diamond solitaire necklace that was .40 - turns out it was an OEC. I was no longer wearing it because I had an 1 ct. OEC that I had put in a halo bezel pendant, so next on my list was earrings... I had a ruby ring w/ lots of nice but small diamonds, so I decided to make the earrings "more than studs." There are earrings made by HOF called the "triplicity" setting that I admired so these are inspired by those.

I am currently debating whether I should have them with posts or should I do the lever back thing? I really like lever backs and find them very comfortable, also having them made as lever backs would insure that they wouldn''t end up sideways, etc, but I am not sure which part of the earring should be the top or the bottom.

Here is the first rendering by from our jeweler. From him- Please note that the prongs and findings are bulkier than the finished product will be. (The earring from the from the front will be a seamless wall of diamonds with as little of the prong showing as possible.) Right now I find the prongs bulky in this picture and I was hoping that he would be able to do more of a "shared" prong setting- but maybe it''s not possible from the positioning of the stones.

Any opinions on 1) whether to do posts or leverbacks? 2) which end (the single stone or triple stone end) should be the top/bottom?

I think they are correct as shown (post at the top where the single stone is). I'm having trouble visualizing how a leverback would fit on the back of this, so I'd probably go ahead and just do a regular post and back.

I thin they''re lovely. Posts would probably be best, if you wanted to do lever back, are you envisioning attaching them something like this?

Kind of like the walmart ones...

I guess I need to look online a little more- I typically find lever backs to be more comfortable than posts- I should probably try and get measurements on how big (or small) they will actually be, since the rendering is of course much larger than real life.

The HOF earrings are here-

here-

So they are shown with both orientations- the one w/ the extra stone has just the single stone on top, but if it was just the 3 stone cluster, then the cluster is on top.

I wonder if by adding just 3 stones to each earring I could do something along the lines of this-

I love your lever back idea over the posts! If you stay with this design...I seem to gravitate towards the single stone on the bottom. But I wonder if it is because you are showing this option only? I agree, Lever backs will really make those work better as you said, and not turn around.

QUESTION: Will the cluster of stones be stationary Or will they dangle from a loop hanging from the lever wire? Hum...if they dangle maybe the way you have them is better. Maybe you make the top three cluster stationary and dangle the large one on down from a jump ring?

Here another idea...if you can''t decided;

I picture your bezel pendant as being more modern? So it got me thinking how to match that...

If you really want shared prongs...perhaps a single row of your smaller stones ending in your large stone would be an easier way to accomplish sharing the prongs?

o (stone)

o (stone)
. (prong)
O (big stone) (you could bezel the big one or semi bezel it)
. (prong)

Perhaps you don''t use ALL of your smaller stones in this one project...and make it three small and then the large one? And then make another simple pair similar to diamonds by the yard...one post one dangle/maybe one bezel post with one dangle? to match your pendant. For just those days you want something less.

The watch brand Movado used to make a modern style of jewelry...it was so cool. They used a prong at noon and 6, but instead of a prong, it was actually a quasi-semi bezel. Just a hint of a bezel. Not sure if that is enough description to help you picture it or not...but I do like that style with earrings. They don''t offer them any longer I don''t think, so I don''t have a photo to show you. A semi bezel would look cool at noon and six...and then repeated again. Bezeling that larger stone would make it look larger if you wanted that. You have a ton of options...and I am sorry I got you sidetracked.

It seems as if you have already decided on your design you have now...which is unique and will be REALLY special!
For some reason...I see all those stones of yours and just went biszirk on the ideas. I am in hyper mode...ate too much chocolate today. So sorry.

Thanks for the ideas- I have a few rings w/ some decent quality small stones I am willing to cannibalize if needed!
I am getting to the point in my life where my jewelry box is getting filled up w/ lots of "little things" that I never reach for, but I am lacking basic diamond earrings- yet don''t have the budget for honker studs I would like to have- so this project is to fulfill that need, and would serve to commemorate the birth of 2 babies in about 2 yrs (one earring for each baby- DH bought the matching stone for the earring right around when my daughter was born, but after buying a house when she was 2 weeks old this project took a back seat to buying a station wagon, a new boiler, etc. etc.)

There will not be any "movement" in the earrings, it would have made the setting too bulky for the size of stones I am working with.
I think one of the via luxe links I posted above has a similar setting idea to the one you posted Casablanca- I will have to rummage through the rings I am willing to sacrifice and see if I can come up w/ 6 more even smaller stones...

I am attracted to the 3-stone cluster design (sort of clover-like) because my e-ring has 3 stones on each side of the center stone and while I am not a huge matchy-matchy person, it''s not a super-common look, so I thought it would be nice to have earrings that I could hopefully wear everyday that would compliment/echo my e-ring.

EDITED: I FINALLY just got your Via Luxe links to work for me! I LOVE THE SECOND to BOTTOM ONE and the bottom one!....it is really beautiful...Ok, you don't need to read my post that follows....I was searching for the very same thing for you...but had no luck. Hate to delete it all...poof DELETED!

Love how the three stone placement has meaning for you...and the way you acquired those stones is so wonderful. I love the effort and reason your hubby got them.

So this isn't just a recycle project, but intended with planned purpose! I do like the idea of the three cluster and the one large one in a post design. Having that one extra on the bottom/top which ever you choose is throwing me off some how. Adding the single stone, in a post seems too long to me. But in a lever/wire style type it fits better. So I can see the VIA LUXE wire design on the top...but on top of the three. (but it doesn't compliment your three stone cluster in your ring design).

Woo Hoo what ever you decide is going to look great and have meaning for you! Looks like all your hard work will set you aside from the others...

I love the design of these earrings! Lovely.

I like the way you have them in leverbacks or I like the idea of using the smaller diamonds in a row with the larger diamond at the bottom. If they put a little bead or station between them and have them dangle off a post that would be a great look too. Have fun!
