Its really hard to tell how good of a cut it is based on those numbers alone, and I''ve heard that IGI isn''t as reliable as most. For the clarity you have I, is that all it says? It should be I1, I2, or I3. These grades usually have inclusions that can be visible to most people. But what matters most, is what you think about it. If you think its gorgeous and you love it, then go for it.

I am no expert on marquise cuts but I will try to start you off. Firstly if you are interested in this diamond get an independant appraisal, especially as it is IGI certed. IGI are thought by some to be looser in their colour and clarity grading. As it is an I grade, is it an I1 i2 OR I3? Can you see any inclusions with the naked eye? It is very hard to say whether this is a good diamond, the lab of choice is GIA or AGS and also being an imperfect....depends very much on your eyes and the price of this diamond as to whether it is a good choice for you. Have you looked online to compare and prices? There are many diamonds out there, don''t settle or buy until you are sure you have made the right choice. Hopefully someone who knows more about Marquise cuts will chime in, but one thing in it''s favour is you find this diamond beautiful, fancy cuts are really best evaluated by the eyes.

With pics, use macro mode on the camera and no flash and try to rig up a tripod to steady the camera. Also take them outside with the sun behind you. Bear in mind you can take many pics and only one or two may be any good - this is normal. Hopefully some others will chime in with more advice on the diamond and pics.

Sorry it says I1
It is really a beautiful diamond..can not find any flaws with naked eye..under scope there are a few tiny ones I saw. It really sparkles and faces up so beautifully. I ahve tried and tried ( and so ahve a few others) to find naked eye flaws and we can not.
It really is a beautiful stone.
I am new to this...what would be a decent / average price for this stone?

I would estimate the cost to be $3500-$4000. I found a H I1 for $3610, so it should be around that price depending on where you are buying it from. If it''s from a mall or chain jewelery store, the price is probably a lot higher.

If you love it and its eyeclean to you and the price is right, I''d go for it. All that really matters is that you love it.

Reading your post, there are a number of reasons I could point out why I would not buy this particular marquise. However, none of those reasons really matter if you love it. Your love for the diamond should not be based on numbers or certs, etc. As long as you are not overpaying (and IGI should be cheaper than GIA), then you should go for it. It is pointless for me to point out reasons not to buy it when you have seen it and love it. That is all that matters.

From your last post it sounds as if you really love it so that is all that matters really.

While it is not unusual for SI1 or SI2 stones to have eye visible inclusions, it is also not unusual for I1 stones to be eye clean to all but the most experienced viewers. In fact, it can be a tremendous bargain to find an eye clean I1, or an I1 with a prongable inclusion as you can have all of the beauty for a fraction of the price.

This is why many of us vendors continually harp on "Buy the Stone, not the paper!".

It sounds as if you have found a stone that is well enough cut not to have a big nasty bow tie and with inclusions that are not sufficiently large to be eye visible, although they may be so numerous as to require the I1 grade.

These are actually hard to find a lot of, and look much nicer than the paper says they should. Assuming the color and clarity to be correct, always a risky assumption, it sounds like congratulations are in order.
