I am looking to create some green studs for my birthday! I am thinking around 5.5 to 6mm each. I want round stones. I love the color of emeralds but am hesitant to buy emeralds due to the cost of high quality and the fragie nature of them as well.

Can someone recommend a green stone that would be good for studs that would be a true green and fairly clear? I want a green green, deep green color.

And can you recommend sites as well? I want to keep the whole project under $1,000 including platinum settings. So if you figure around $350 or so for the stud settings that leaves $650 for the stones. I need platinum since I''m allergic to white gold (nickel) and don''t like yellow gold on my skin tone.

Thanks!

Have you heard of demantoids? They are all shades of green and can be quite clear. They have dispersion similar to diamonds (so I have read). I don''t know where to find them...perhaps some of the gemstone peeps will chime in. I like your green studs idea. I''m itcing for some studs myself

Holy smokes those are gorgeous! I knew demantoids were a bit pricey but I didn't know they were that expensive (good ones, at least)! Sorry if I got your hopes up about the under $1000, asscherisme

Haha Harriet, are the baaaaad??

I think chrome diopside would work really well for studs. They are really quite affordable as well compared to other green alternatives.

They are sweet, but one''s neurotic and one''s a rascal.

Tsavorite Garnet maybe? I know Sarahthewarrior just got a nice pair for her ering and they were reasonably priced.

I''m curious if you''ve ever tried white gold with a nickel-free alloy (like palladium) before?

It is pretty common in Japan and somewhat in Europe too. There are more and more US dealers carrying the nickel-free alloy (after all -- nickel allergies do impact a substantial amount of the population).

I would go for one of these:

Tsavorite

Green Zircon

Chrome Diopside - I think this is quite tricky to set without breakage but I may be wrong.

Demantoid (when I''m rich!)

I have a pair of diopside pears that I bought set in a ring that I want to turn into earrings, but my current WANT is:

A pair of RB diamond set jackets with tsavorite studs and drop pearls.

I''m wearing pearls for my wedding and thought the jackets and studs would tie them in with my e-ring.

Anyone know where I can get diamond jackets without breaking the bank? I love the LM ones that someone has, but they are a bit over my budget (a lot over in fact!)

You can try Ross Simons for diamond jackets, they won''t break the bank. Also I think WF sells them too. Those ACA''s would be amazing in jackets, but not sure of the cost. Happy hunting, and sorry for the thread jack....

Don''t forget green tourmaline.

I was thinking about green tourmaline, too. I have had a pair of green tourmaline studs, triangle shaped, set in yellow gold bezels, for many years, and they still look great!

Harriet, I don''t know if you saw these on the thread in hangout today, but on one of the links gypsy posted there were some earrings that were green onyx with a little red round stone underneath, I think they were set in leverbacks, for only $300. They were set in YG, and they were realllllly pretty. Just thought I''d mention it.

I''m always on the lookout for the ever-elusive emerald, unfortunatly I don''t have time to really scour every site that features well-cut gemstones and every time I look through cherrypicked everything is sold. what''s a girl to do? I really don''t want to look at anything green besides emeralds, so I''m afriad I can''t be of much help to you, although maybe I should open my mind a bit to the thought of another sparkly green stone which isn''t quite so hard to find.
