What is considered a long engagement?

I'm saying anything over two years...After I propose on the 21st to the FFI, he still has about a year and a half of school left plus I am in the midst of a career change and I want to give him time to find a steady job and for us to save. Needless to say we will be engaged 2-3 years...So, I will be joining the "Long Engagement Club" shortly!

Anything over a year seems long to me. (Okay, unless you get engaged at the holidays and really want a summer wedding somewhere popular....then 18 months is reasonable.) I really don''t think I would want to get engaged until I was ready to get married that day. To me it indicates that you are actively planning a wedding.

But then, I think a 6-8 month engagement is ideal (I don''t really feel like planning a wedding, though...I''d love it if I could call up some place and say, "I don''t care about the flowers, I don''t care about the table settings, I just want to show up and get married!").

I would say anything over two years. Many venues need bookings 18 months in advance, so I think it''s common to have an engagement period of around this time. It really only matters to you guys how long you want to be engaged for I guess. Many couples would love to get married straight away but find that they don''t have the cash right away, can''t book their venue, are still studying etc, so there are many factors that can come into play.

Our date is yet to be confirmed, but it looks like we have 14 months between getting engaged and getting married.

Thank you for the replies everyone

From this I can see that everyone is different, and although there is a common time frame when a wedding takes place after an engagement, it really does depends on the couple, their situation and what works for them

i''m with honey. i think under two years is optimal, though i don''t really know what''s standard. i''ll probably aim for about a year and a half.
