What is the concensus on size of stud for an every day earring? I was thinking 0.4 c. each? Or is this so depdent upon the individual that the only way to know is to try on a few pairs? Thanks.

I think .40 each is a great size for everyday wear. It also depends how large or small the earlobes are. I love studs set in a 3 prong martini setting. All you see is sparkle. Good luck!!

Yeah, it really depends on your earlobes. I think if you were buying blind, .4-.5 is a decent size that any woman can wear every day. It''s not too extravagent.

.4 each sounds like a safe bet.

I don''t think trying on makes a huge difference - all sizes fit after all. What everyone feels good wearing is a different matter, and probably more about personality than anything.

Just an idea...

The largest pair of diamond studs I came across at work must have been 3 tcw or so on the years of an assistant... Her boss wore tiny ''diamond by the yard'' dots and no other jewelry. Sure enough, the choice was not about money or status. It was funny to see how well the jewelry fit the strikingly different types though: the admin outshone the large diamonds any day (an extremely flamboyant, outgoing person), the boss would have faded in the background of her office if it wasn''t for her work. Well, it was quite something to see them together (hope neither reads this)

Sounds good to me...mine are .38c and they are definitely visible on my ears but still subtle for daily wear....the cut will have alot to do with how large they appear as well. I had some old .50c''s and they were not cut well at all so they looked probably close to how my .38c''s do...so you don''t have to reach the magic carat mark with a well-cut stone which saves some $$ at times as well!

Good luck!

Thank you for the advice...I had already put an order into BlueNile but they havent made these up yet so no harm done to them. I may end up going with a H&As cut now that I''ve read up on them, in about .4, F, VS2. I saw a number of them on the WhiteFlash website.

For me, I found .4 ct each to be too small, and .5 ct each to be just right . . .

I just got studs that are .41 and .42 each.

For some reason, I thought that the half carat each stones were too big.

These feel perfect!

Mine are .45 each (ideal cut) in martini settings and I think that''s a GREAT size for everyday wear. PLUS I missed the price jump at .50!

I wear garnet studs right now and never ever take them out. Is the martini setting safe to wear in the shower, sleeping, etc? I got an unexpected bonus so I''m thinking of getting earrings, but I have to be realistic that I will rarely take them out, and I certainly wont remove them every night. I know I can get the screw backs, and that will help tremendously, but what is the safest setting?

Lynn makes a great point about just missing the .50ct mark, if you can find ~0.45''s that is great!

I wear .55 and .57 in my earrings, and I find them to be a great size. Noticeable, but not ostentatious.

It''s also unlikely I''ll ever go higher than that.....economically, just doesn''t make sense. I''d have to get into the .75 range to be a noticeable difference, and the price would more than double to do it. Not worth it.

i got my wife a 1 carat total sapphire pair of martini earings in platinum that she wears all the time and never takes out (except to clean them) she has not had any problem at all. They sit very close to your ear and are not likely to catch on much. I have never heard of anyone having trouble with losing stones or anything, since they are in the ears. One doesn't bang your head to regularly!

edited to add: i've not heard great things about screw back settings when worn quite often, but i don't remember why, perhaps someone else could shed some light on that consideration.

I wear mine everyday. They are 1.33ct each. I never thought they were big!! I have friends that wear larger sizes and I guess it is what you get used to seeing/wearing.

Martini setting all the way!

Wanted to revive this thread in case people have additional thoughts. I have stud earrings on the brain right now.

What size do you think are too small to be noticeable or worth it for every day? Do you think 0.5 TCW is a nice look for everyday?

I say anything between 0.45-0.49 ct each. Don''t pay for that 1/2 carat stone; the diameter is probabaly the same. There is a noticeable different from 0.40 to 0.48 ct. Stones that are just under 50 are great for all occassion not just everyday wear. Not flashy but prominent.

Martini or 3 prongs basket set low is the way to go.

I am going to stay away from those magic numbers 0.50, 1.0, 1.25, 1.50, etc. These are like the ones that cutters employ tricks to gain those weight.

For me, I think .4-.5 in each ear would be perfect for an everyday pair of studs. For formal wear, I''d love 2 carats in each ear!! I think too small for me to not bother with would be under .2. At .2 I think you would still notice them and they would still look nice, but under that I''m not sure. Putting smaller studs in bezels instead of prongs would help make them look more substantial, but I wouldn''t do this for larger earrings.

i like .25 - .33 carats in each ear. but I wear multiple earrings.

I have .62 and .63. I think they are a nice size. Not too big and not too small. I love .4 or .5 in a bezel, too. I think I''m in the minority for my area. Everyone else seems to have 1 ct per ear rounds set in a basket...At the pool...At the store...Target...It''s almost freaky. It was the first thing I noticed when we moved!
