What is the weirdest food combo you enjoy?

Milk chocolate and salt and vinegar crisps (chips if you’re American!). Not actually in the same bowl. But a bite of one followed by a bit of another.

Plain salted crisps with malt vinegar on top.

Prosecco and Cadbury mini eggs. Again, not in the same glass!

I like putting high quality vanilla ice cream (something like hagen daze) and high quality chocolate in the microwave. If you repeatedly mix and microwave it then it turns into something that looks like chocolate fudge sauce, and you can add milk to make hot chocolate. Strange but effective -- I think the ice cream has to be good though.

Salsa on scrambled eggs - a go to of mine since childhood. I'll add avocado too if I have some.

Smoked trout and unglazed cake donut sandwich. Smoked salmon would probably work too.

peanut butter (and butter) on hot cross buns and hot freshly toasted
its not overly weird, but it is yummy

I'm weird, not for what food combinations I DO eat, but for NOT combining stuff that nearly everyone else does:

No dressing on a salad, not even a light vinaigrette, or a squeeze of fresh lemon
No condiments whatsoever on sandwiches/hamburgers/hotdogs, ever
(Actually I haven't eaten the later two for decades)

No sauces, such as tahini on Pita Gyros, or hollindaise sauce on anything
No ketchup on fries, which I never order though I'll steal a couple from DH
In fact, no ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish on anything, ever
No tartar sauce on fish

The smell/taste of vinegar turns my stomach
I'll refrain from posting a barf GIF

My DH is the polar opposite.
I can spend hours preparing food and getting flavors balanced just right, only to watch him slather ketchup all over it. :angryfire:

:naughty::naughty::naughty:
Sometimes people should just NOT vary. :lol-2:

i was going to ask if you hated vinegar but i see you do hate it
im the same
mayo the way to ruin a good sandwhich

tomato sauce (ketchup) makes my stomach turn and its only good worse after a friend made pasta with it (the most foul thing ive ever had to eat)
i also dont like pickles of any kind
but i do like lemon or lime juice

Weird things I like:
Fresh (not tinned!) tomatoes cooked in butter/garlic butter with cottage cheese melted into it. Looks quite wrong and a bit curdled.
Fried eggs with hot sauce (not tomato sauce, yuck! That’s sweet).
Seedy, grainy bread with everything butter (nuts and seeds) and quince paste. I’m aware that’s basically a bougie PB&J but the latter isn’t a thing in NZ.

OMGlob! will you marry me?
Oh wait :doh::doh: I'm already married.

I also love lemon and lime juice.
They taste and smell fresh, and alive.
Vinegar makes me puke; it reeks of death, farts, & rotting meat. :knockout:

When a recipe calls for vinegar, I substitute lemon or lime juice.

I've come up with a silly, but catchy, saying ...
or maybe it's a poem ...

"Lips that touch mayonnaise shall never touch mine." :lol-2:

the worst thing in the world Kenny, is a pickle flavored kiss
last night when i was dishing up dinner i got some pickle juice on me ewwwwwwwwwwww

Pickle juice is the best way to stop a muscle cramp!

Within a minute or two of taking a 2 oz. pickle juice "shot" (we buy them by the case on Amazon), his night-time leg cramp is over. He actually keeps a few "shots" in the storage area of our headboard.

I love garlic dill pickles!

well i shell file that away in the useful info dept
muscle cramp pain is worse than pickle juice
im worried how much 2 oz is though - :(2

i do use apple cider vinger for sore throats but its bl**y ghastly (i mix it with orange juice in a very small glass)

Pickle juice is salty, not acidic like vinegar. 2 oz. is 60 mls. if that helps.
It goes down pretty easy. You can drink a little water afterward or rinse your mouth if you wish.
It relieves cramps by balancing your electrolytes.

This is what we buy: (we get the original flavor but I see they also have a chili lime version)

Oh! I thought you meant, literally, to take the liquid from a jar of pickles. I see that you're referring to a specific product. Will send this link to my sis, as she gets wicked leg cramps in the night.

My husband's doctor also told him to take a multivitamin containing magnesium as that helps prevent leg cramps. I buy him vitamins with 120 mg. magnesium.
Also-- if one is on a salt restricted diet, be aware that these pickle shots are very salty.

I don't know what combos I eat that are weird, per say.

But I can tell you two specific combos I react violently to and can't even be in the same room with.

Bleu cheese and mandarin oranges mixed together. Like party hors d'oeuvres.

I found that out the hard way. It was embarrassing and entirely unexpected
Separately they're fine, in fact I love both, but together? I will retch at the smell alone.

I react similarly to those little bell onions in a jar and peanut butter sandwiches. I had a friend from Scotland when I was little and her family loved them. I tried to be polite and eat one once and well, you know.
It was embarrassing and entirely unexpected:lol:

Unlike so many of you who do not like condiments, my condiment of choice is Mayonnaise! I love it on everything, on veggies, on fries, on fish….and depending on the dish, I will mix Mayo with other ingredients to make:

sriracha mayo,
Teriyaki mayo,
Relish and Mayo (tartar sauce)
Horseradish Mayo
Wasabi mayo….

Here is my favorite way to eat veggies: lightly blanched with Japanese kewpie mayo:

... speaking of weird food combos, and since most here are women ...
Have you, or anyone you're aware of, craved the legendary pickles and ice cream while pregnant?

Or is that just humor made up by us invariably evil and misogynist (as a poster here believes ) men?

If so, how would you describe the taste of pickles and ice cream?

... to coin Nation Enquirer's excuse (I mean byline) ... "Curious minds want to know".

If so, or not, what's up with DAT?

It’s actually a thing

Hormonal fluctuations, particularly increased levels of estrogen and progesterone during pregnancy, can influence our taste and smell perceptions. These changes may make certain foods, like pickles with their strong, tangy flavor, more appealing.”

Pregnancy can definitely affect taste and smell, sometimes quite strangely.

I recall being nauseated by the smell of gasoline and car exhaust, even at a distance, when it never bothered me before. But then my mouth would water when I drove by the plowed farmers' fields because the dirt looked so delicious. (I didn't actually eat any though because at the same time, I knew it was a crazy urge).

I also couldn't get enough fresh grown tomatoes (not the flavorless grocery store kind). No idea if it was due to hormones or vitamin/mineral deficiency or what though.

OMG you can buy it ? o_O

I remember my sister saying that pregnancy was by far the worst experience of her life.
She said it felt it was so foreign it was like she was abducted by aliens.
She never mentioned changes in taste or smell.

I guess pregnant women vary too. ;-)

Yes, people vary. :lol-2:

Personally, I felt great in my second semesters. Again, not sure if it was just relief that the nausea of the first semester ended, enjoying the attention (showing by then) and buying all the cute little baby stuff or hormonal or other. First semester was nausea, third semester got uncomfortable because there was not enough room for both of us in my skin.

ETA: But I have heard a lot of similarities and differences.

I have been woken up quite a bit lately with lower leg cramps so thank you for that. Will definitely try magnesium!

Thanks all. :wavey:
Very interesting info.

Of course too late now, but I would have loved to ask mom what foods she craved while carrying me.
Might it have been junk-foods that I now crave?
Might it be that fetus-Kenny was already communicating with mom?
If so, was that prenatal misogyny?

I craved tomatoes and cheese when I was pregnant. No idea what deficiency or hormonal thing caused it. I would eat tomatoes in any form - tinned on toast, raw like apples, and I loved margarita pizza!

I had an easy pregnancy all the way until delivery (which came one hour after her due date had ended) so I was lucky that way. I craved, and ate, those Haggan Daz cocolate ice creams dipped in chocolate, on a stick. I ate three of them every day, but not with pickles. And if I could get away with it now, I'd still eat three of them every day!

I like mayo and aioli. Homemade only tho....

I posted a similar thread years ago , and someone on PS mentioned that they liked cream cheese and green olives on bread….that sounded so good, I tried it and have loved it ever since!
