What is/was your most functional/useful purchase?

@Daisys and Diamonds I didn’t even think to mention my soda stream but yes that’s another purchase that has been super useful bc I only drink carbonated water and it was getting too expensive and wasteful to buy cans. Then I was going through the cartridges like mad bc they are small so DH rigged a ginormous co2 canister to the soda stream and it’s lasts for 6 mos lol.

Living in SoCal, the weather permits year round outdoor living, so I think my best purchases are the patio chat set and dining set. Also, as a bonus, I rigged the dining table fire pit for table top BBQ, so makes for easy dinner parties that don’t smoke up the house!

I bought an Apple Watch and Air Pods so I could have my music while working in the yard or walking dogs. So much easier than the old way of IPod and corded headphones! Also, when I bought a new car in 2020, I kept the old one instead of trading it in. It was already 11 years old and not worth much. I use it for taking the dogs to the park and running errands around town saving wear and tear on the newer car.

2 x Thermomixs (did have 3 at one stage but that was just wasteful) - I love to cook so they are used every day.

My Kindle is my most beloved in this world other than my DH, kids, family, friends and dogs. It’s with me pretty much 24hrs a day at the ready to snatch 5mins, 1hr, 4hrs etc reading.

My last functional purchase thats also useful; Solar panels with battery backup. If I were to ever do this again, it would be strictly a ground array. I would NOT be doing this rooftop thing again.

And its always nice when its sunny and the AC isn't running (like now for instance!) Rainy days are terrible (of course!) but energy production for my small array is really quite good even at this time of year. I'll produce more when the days are longer.

At this moment it's my Dyson cordless vacuum.

Adding to my first post about this: My vacuum sealer.

I've been thinking about getting one since the start of the pandemic! Then I think: one more thing to have to find room for.

I finally bought an electric kettle. I've always been an old fashioned kettle on the hob person, before. I know, the last person in the universe it would seem.

I violently love that thing- it even has a French press button!

I look at it more on investment vs return; so typically, they're things I use for work.

First would be my Opal cabbing machine; over the years I've owned the machine, it has cut many Opals and has well and truly paid itself off multiple times over. Obviously that doesn't factor in the money I've had to spend on rough Opal though.

The other would be my Surveying kit, it was rather expensive to buy but given that it has the potential to make me 7 or possibly even 8 figures over it's lifetime - that is a serious multiplication of it's value.

I can’t say what my “most functional” purchase is because I have a lot of super functional purchases that I use a lot and enjoy but my FAVORITE functional purchase, like life changing , is my heated gloves. I walk my dog every day no matter the weather, I have Raynauds disease so my hands will literally feel like they’re on fire they hurt so much (with regular gloves) but my heated gloves were life changing!
