Where are you taking your pictures? Bathroom lighting won't work...I suggest day light and if you can take them outside, that imo is the best.

Bathroom lighting is actually the best lighting in my house  , my poor little pear shoots fire all over that sink

Try under a tree or in the car, if its sunny. You dont want direct sun, but those usually work best. Car is usually my fav

Sunlight and daylight on a sunny day is best. Backlighting from a sunnyday at midday is great. Just nothing direct bec it's hard to focus without table glare.

Thanks for the tips ! I usually take it in the house near a window, but i've been getting home in the dark and cant post new pics of my ring.
I will try this weekend!!! Any more tips?? Props?

 That's exactly what I was thinking Niel. Bathroom lighting is great!

Of course, it depends on what type of pics you're trying to take (eg, big flashes of fire? details of the cut?), but I'll share what I've learned over the past few weeks of trying to get good photos of my new rings.

One thing that's helped me (& I take all of my pics w/ my sprint cell phone) is to position the ring, and then hold it still while I move around it looking at it through my cell phone lens until I see something interesting. If I don't get what I'm looking for that way, I begin to move the ring around while holding my head and my cell phone still. It's finding the perfect combination of the position of your head/lens, position of the ring and position of the light source, and since I can't move the lighting (because DH refuses to allow me to rip the lights out of the ceiling :(( ), I'm constantly experimenting with combinations of the other two.

I just recently started taking outdoor shots and quickly learned to be adventurous and try all sorts of angles & positions that I wouldn't expect to work. My ring surprises me every time, and that's really neat.

Oh, and finally, something I learned from Mara years ago is that for every ONE good picture you capture, there are probably a TON (appx 20-30 or more) that didn't go so well. She has an amazing eye for diamonds and if those were her odds (at the time), I knew mine were going to be more like 1 in 500 once my turn came to take pics of my sparklies.
So hang in there & you'll get some good ones!! :wavey:

Yeah - I'd probably put willingness to sort through a truckload to get the handful of good ones at the top of my list too!

Thanks! I guess I'll find a colorful flower for the prop for this weeknd. Hopefully my custom made wband will be done too. Finally the 2 year search is OVER! And I love my new setting so far!

place the ring in a stationary fixture (for example, your ring box or rest your hand on the table). this is to avoid vibrations and movements that cause blurry images.

If you have a camera stand or mini tripod, use that to mount your camera. Set your camera to macro mode and snap away. If you are using your hand to hold on to the camera, it would be wise to anchor or rest your hand on the table to minimize movements.

The key idea here is to minimize or reduce movements as they will cause blur images.

Its important to get it under good lighting!
