What is your carat limit and why?

I recently purchased a beautiful upgrade, a 3ct cushion in a three stone setting. And although its gorgeous, and probably far bigger than anything I could have imagined, I still find myself gravitating towards bigger diamonds. I don't think it has to do with DSS, but really a feeling of luxury and size I am trying to achieve on my rather plump fingers. A constant barrage of massive diamonds on pubescent fingers plastered over luxury brand campaigns which have warped my idea of what diamond size actually looks like on the average size finger.
I made the mistake of trying on a 6.5ct radiant, 380k, at a local store, and it all went down hill from there.... it was massive, it looked double the size of the diamond I had on, and I finally felt "now this looks big"- it felt like luxury and the price tag reflected it. Of course I came rushing home, looked at finances... speculated on what small business I could start up, or invention I could come up with.. lol. My DH was amused and said "you know even if we were multi-millionaires, Im pretty sure you would stick to the carat size you have now". At first I was like.... DH you don't know me because I want that 6.5ct ring now....lol. But that comment gave me pause.... I realized that just because people can go larger doesn't mean that they do. When or why does the upgrading stop, and larger diamonds just become something to admire from afar?

So I wanted to ask all of you...... aside from financial reasons, what is your carat limit and why?

I would easily go for a bigger diamond if I could afford it, so no carat limit for me....lol. I would love to rock a 7 or 8 carat emerald cut, or a 4 or 5 carat MRB. ;-)

I do prefer to stick to certain specs though, so I would, and have gone smaller to stay in my preferred range, and of course, budget.

It's a very bad idea to try on those huge expensive diamonds. They just look so darn good!

I’d wear whatever carat weight my hand could manage to carry.
I would undertake a demanding and intense exercise programme or consider “aids” if it meant wearing even BIGGER.

Bigger is better, darling. If my budget could support it, I’d be rocking some massive bling.

Sadly, my bling budget is currently…

My limit is the 2ct I have now….I know I’m the odd one.
It looks pretty big on my size 4.5 finger and I find it attracts a lot of attention. 111ACD3D-0262-4B50-A58C-7259CF1BAB4A.jpeg

I does look large and blingtastic on you! I can see why it's your limit.... but I have never had a problem seeing how big and beautiful other's rings are !

My only limit:

I like to wear my ring at all times, so I don't want something so big I'd have to take it off when I go camping or do most things with my hands. I could *maybe* go up to a 1.75 from my 1.35 AVC and not have it feel too big (going to 1.5 wouldn't be a big enough perceptual difference) but I kind of doubt it. I also just have a quite modest life, and already spent more than I ever thought I would on this ring, so I cannot imagine spending above the next major dollar increment to increase in size.

I tried on an amazing 5ct step cut a couple of years ago as a potential upgrade and I have to say it was just too much. My current stone is a 4ct radiant in a three stone and I honestly thought the 5ct would have me swooning but I just felt it was soooooo ostentatious that I put it back without (much) regret.

I don't think I would want much larger than my current 3.25, 9.5mm MRB. I would love to have a 10mm rounded OMC or OEC though. Not happening any time soon though. 3 kids! Darn, those kids are expensive!

Even if money were no object(it is, two kids, one off to college now and the other in three yrs), I know exactly what my limitations are for size in everyday wear rings. It's right around 8.5mm being the absolute largest for rounds/cushions/asschers etc. (that's pushing it) and about 9x7 for ovals/emeralds/pears etc... I also have the constraint of short, hobbity mitts.
I just can't get used to any larger for some reason. It's just not practical for my lifestyle.

I love looking at, hunting for, talking about and the idea of big rocks. So, it was a bit of weird dismay and surprise to find I couldn't actually wear those big rings I so desperately love.

For MRB or squarish cuts, my limit is 3ct. I don’t want it to look like a class ring. For elongated cuts like oval , emerald or pear, I can see myself going to 5-7 carats.

My current 8.88mm diameter OEC is perfect size right now on my size 5.5 finger…:not the maxed out, but content.

I don’t think I have a size limit. Bigger is better! I think 7-8ct is my limit for MRBs specifically because I don’t like how bigger MRBs look, but for fancy shapes, especially elongated ones like emerald, I could go to 10+ct. I suppose if I was truly uncomfortable I could always take a larger ring off in certain situations.

Out of curiosity, I went and checked my response to the last time I answered this type of question, and apparently I said 4-5ct MRB and 7ct fancy, so… even my imagination has DSS!

I would wear a 10+ carat if the budget allowed. But my hands are much bigger than average. My 4ct round gets a little smaller every year, but DH would frown on upgrading again. Thank goodness I love my current ring and am happily enjoying adding other pieces of bling in the lab created varieties. They are very affordable and satisfy my itches for new sparkles!

A 3 carat solitaire is my limit. My ACA is 3.01 so I’m done! Anything larger is too large for my lifestyle. I’m content. I do have a 4.14 carat total emerald cut three stone diamond ring. 3.01 center and two .70 emerald cuts. It feels really big to me because of the finger coverage. It’s taking some time to get use to it! I do love it though. That was pushing the envelope for me.

Serious question
Does it have to be a ring ?
Or can i set it as a brooch ?
Because i could totally rock these two

You can get a CZ version of this brooch, and I am very tempted just for the fun of it!
