What is your carat limit and why?

Where did you get that on? I missed that one!

I tried it on at NY JAWS. But that's her best angle. From the side she's as flat as a pancake!

Oh this is such a fun question! I don’t think I could go any bigger than my 2.58 EC in this three stone setting - there’s no more room! (Funny - I purchased this ring without seeing the stone’s scale in person and it was so much bigger looking than I expected feels just right now) lifestyle-wise this works great though because I had it set as low as possible. (I’ve got young kids who are very active)

I think I could go up to a 3.5 or 4ct in a solitaire OEC, but unsure how I’d feel wearing that on a daily basis. But a girl can dream!

I think ECs can be huge and one can still pull it off without looking "too big". If I were able to have something that was 8-10 ct I would but it would be an emerald or asscher or something of the sort. To me old cuts like OMCs, Antique cushions and even OECs can also be in the 7-8 range without looking "too big". This is just personal preference but imo MRBs can have that "too big" look in that range but many times it's because they are set up really high. So for most things there isn't a limit haha.

I can't get around this in my own head, however, I can wear big rings on my left hand (just the one ring on each hand is my personal preference) as long as it is not a diamond!

The only colourless stone that I would wear on my LH is an oval white Zircon with 3 small round pale Sapphires on each side, can't remember the exact dimensions, however, it is not that big on my size 8.5 US finger.

An ex-colleague did ask if it was a diamond, and I responded that had I had a diamond that big, I would not be working where I was! And no, she is not a PSer!

I actually said that to three friends about my much smaller antique asscher. I think it’s 2.17 ctw but it has lots of junk in the trunk because of the old cut. It appears like a 1.5 face up..That’s very large for my friends. If I wore my other two rings when I’m with them I would feel uncomfortable.

Ive said this before
but attention all PSers
Please wear all your diamonds if we ever have coffee together

Here you go @Mreader, this is an almost 10.5 ct emerald cut I tried on at Sothebys, it was gorgeous, but just a tad too much for everyday wear

IF there was no budget whatsoever (a hilarious concept) it would still vary by shape… in a MRB (or anything round-ish) probably 4-5ct, cushion or asscher maybe 6ct since they face up a bit smaller, in an oval or pear 7ct, in an EC 10ct.
All of which would make me look patently insane, since 2-3ct MRB solitaires are pretty de rigueur in my area and social circle… what can I say, the heart wants what it wants

These limits are for rings only, I wouldn’t be interested in larger than 2ct per ear for earrings (small ear lobes), necklaces on the other hand have no limit!

6-7ct in an MRB, 7-9ct in an OEC, or 10ct in a fancy. I can only dream!

„An eight makes me interested, a nine makes me satisfied and a ten makes me addicted“ - that’s a quote from a British female author (unfortunately I can’t remember her name), and yes she was talking about diamonds!
But - I was visiting Antwerp a few month back and I got the chance to try an 11.2ct MRB and I absolutely could get used to it. So, double digit is my new target!

I don’t have a carat limit, I have a wear-it limit. I could find a way to wear, on occasion, whatever size bling happened to land in my armoire — just not on a daily basis. I recently decided on a new diamond purchase and had to do a reality check on what diamond would be worth the money as measured by times worn. To answer your question, my daily wear limit seems to be 1.25 ct on my middle finger and ~6mm on my ring finger.

Am thinking about starting a stats thread for people to share facts about their collections but not sure how it would be interpreted.

i thought my 1ct generic asscher was big. then i paired it with my full eternity. that set is spot on.

i also have a 1.2ct generic asscher and i am happy that is my limit for a solitaire.

Is it bad I think that's the purrrfect size? :)

...

I say that too, about men. :evil2:

An eight makes me interested, a nine makes me satisfied and a ten makes me addicted.

I definitely could get use to a 10 ct stone in round or fancy shape like oval or pear but never going to happen. I’m going to have to settle for upgrade to 5-6 ct depending on shape. DH is side eyeing me by the way every time I mention my upgrade.

Well, there are different kinds of size queens! :lol-2:

Less than 5ct for round, probably 4 is what I think I can swing based on trying on rings… (it felt like wearing a doorknob at 5 ct) but certainly much larger for other shapes as many PS-ers have mentioned.

This isn‘t a diamond but I think I can swing an even larger EC. The beryl measures 9.5x15.5mm…

You guys crack me up.
Like there's a limit............
Seriously?????
So if you found a 20 carat diamond ring on the sidewalk, you wouldn't wear it?
I know I would!! :lol-2:

Ok so 20ct does look too big to me…

this is all imaginary of course but if I only have a 20ct ring with no other increase in wealth, I think I would sell it for earlier retirement

It’s too big for my lifestyle anyway… at that size you probably need body guards 24/7.

Or maybe we all should go to car boot sales more often…

That's the issue I have!

I can wear a big CS/pearl ring on my left hand, but not a diamond in the same size!

The JW Aqua and Morganite traps will be the largest CS to date and the Aqua is 6.16ct.

The Imperial Pink Topaz that he had already cut for me is larger, being 9.23ct, and I am hoping to set it as a ring pendant in some sort of Art Deco inspired setting:
