What is your current obsession?

HI:

Makes me happy others also obsess about lights/lighting!

cheers--Sharon

O o o
Art Deco lights.
Heres mine.
The hall light I bought long before I even owned a house because I knew how rare it was. It has hand painted dogs on each of the glass panels. No way it wasn’t going home with me!
the kitchen light is the ladies holding the flames. Love this one.
the study has a Saturn lamp, the centre is frosted floral relief.
and the formal lounge and dining set came from America. Gawd the shipping cost. However they were a matched set and perfect so I just bit the bullet.IMG_9169.jpegIMG_9167.jpegIMG_9168.jpegIMG_9171.jpegIMG_9173.jpegIMG_9172.jpeg

I love vintage lighting! My home was built in 1907 in a style called Victorian vernacular. Basically it’s the style of home the average person lived in, in my city, in the first decades of the last century. Anyway, when we stripped it to the studs to restore and renovate, we tried to use period appropriate lighting on the main floor. Most of the lighting is antique brass with reproduction glassware. We got the Tiffany style lamps second hand from private sellers. These lights are one of my favourite design elements in my home.

As for obsessions, I have recently begun indulging my gem and jewelry interests after a very long hiatus dedicated to raising my kids and struggling with poor health. My kids are 12 and 15 now and so much more self-sufficient. And I was finally able to get a complex medical condition treated and I’m feeling better than I have in a decade… I have decided that as part of my healing I will be focusing on indulging in more pleasurable activities in my life. I’ve had too much focus on survival and now it’s time for joy.

So I am indulging myself with jewelry. One step at a time I want to build a beautiful jewelry wardrobe. Nothing too extravagant, just fine beautiful items that give me pleasure to look at.

I am also trying to return to the arts. I haven’t indulged my creativity in many decades, but I used to paint and make pottery and decoupage arts. I went to one of those ceramic places this winter and made this for my mom. It took me about 10 hours to paint, layer upon layer of color which was then carved away to reveal the colors beneath. Now I’m a little obsessed and want to make myself a whole set of servingware!

I love plants and used to have them all around my home when I was single but then I got cats and that put an end to that. Little imps that they are. I miss having all that beautiful greenery around...if you have a chance I would love to see a photo of your pandan plant

Here it is Missy!

Still thinking about what to do in terms of splitting it up. There are so many videos! Straight into the pot or sprout roots first! I don’t know what to commit to!!!

This is the baby plant we had delivered during the first lockdown in 2020

My new obsession is roses...namely David Austin English roses. I started with 4 last year and added 20 more this year with plans in the works for Spring 2025.

Your roses are gorgeous. I don't have any rose bushes. I wish I did, but not sure they'd grow and prosper in my yard. Do you put a lot of work into them?

Oh thank you! How come you can't grow roses in your yard? I'm still relatively new to gardening but I don't think roses are hard to care for. Just plant, water, feed, deadhead and prune. My potted roses though, need special treatment. Because I'm in Canada, I have to wrap and insulate the pots or else the roots would freeze and they would die.
I think roses are pretty tough, even in my climate. I actually have a hard time with my perennials!

I have very rocky soil and not a lot of sun in many areas, or too much sun in others. But I guess I could try one rose bush and see if it lives.
A lot of time we are on water restrictions where we are either "asked" to limit it to two days a week, or it's mandated. Depends on the year. I'm in New England. Not sure if you are in Eastern or Western Canada, but if you're in Eastern, and you can do it, I probably could as well. As long as I wasn't lazy about it!

Coffee is my current obsession. I dived off the deep end and landed on my head. Arrived today: Moccamaster coffee maker. Still to come Breville milk frother, scale to measure grinds, burr coffee bean grinder, oxygen bleached coffee filters, and an airtight coffee cannister.

I've been using a french press for years but when I found out that there are coffee makers that yield coffee just as tasty, I decided give it a try.

I am 1/3 of the the way to becoming a one of those coffee aficionados who bore people to death talking the fine points about beans.

I'm in the east coast!

Then I guess I'll try. I know nothing about roses, I'll do some research and figure out when to start! Thank you.

I don't really do social media but I'm part of a few FB groups dedicated to rose keeping...I use my sister's account  I've learned quite a bit there. If you have FB, check out the Growing Roses in Cold Zones (if you're farther north) and David Austin Rose and World Roses groups.

Panettone!!! Omg I am OBSESSED! It’s only September and I’m onto my second one already. I started pining about them in August and Lil Sis was all “They probably won’t stock them until November.”

But then two weeks ago she was in a department store in the city and came to my house with one and I went off the deep end. It is so so so good!!!!!!!!

Love it. I thought I was the only one. I can’t eat it anymore due to gluten but oh I loved it when I was able to eat gluten. We always got it as a Christmas gift from one of my jobs. Yummm

Haha I thought it was just me! I keep seeing memes about people regifting them and the consensus seems to be that a lot of people think panettone is terrible stuff.

I love fluffy sweet bread with fruit in it! They sell hot cross buns here from January to early May and I freeze a whole batch to last until June. Then by this time I’m pining for panettone!

I found gluten free panettone where we used to live. Tried several brands, and one in particular was excellent. We moved, and I found an organic gluten-free brand last year, at another Italian grocer.

It’s time to ask them to order it for this year. I don’t recall the brand—the grocer knows, though.

I. love. panettone. :kiss2::D

I think we need to start a thread for panettone lovers and post pics
