I don't even read these half the time any more but they are so cheap--we use some service where a couple of them are literally 25 cents a copy--that I just can't bring myself to stop them. Plus I think when we signed up I agreed to a subscription that goes out many many many years... maybe into the next millennium.

The HH gets Sports Illustrated and some cooking magazine (or maybe two... ).

I want to subscribe to a doggie mag. Can you guys recommend one?

Me:
Marie Claire
Real Simple
Psychology Today
Domino
Lucky

DH:

Playboy
Money
Fortune
Motorcyclist
Automobile
Wired
Electronic Gaming Monthly

We are trying to be as paperless as possible. So online and library are favorite options. The problem is that so much is interesting to me. Art science travel and on and on and on. Also it is can be really hard to chuck a mag without fully processing it all. So I like to just look up what I need online and forget the rest. I am not a stuff person but I am an info person. I like to look up the websites for the magazines I like though. I love looking up Architectural Digest and National Geographic and so on.

When I looked up the latest National Geographic issue it looked like it was on Gorillas getting murdered-don't know how I missed that story. Since it sounds like it happened a while ago. But it made me physically sick. Anything about kids or animals (or anyone for that matter) getting hurt cuts me to the quick.

No matter how many times I hear about that stuff I just can't stand it. I try to focus on what is being done and can be done to help but still.

My least favorite type of magazine tends to be fashion. Mainly the ones geared toward making you feel crappy about yourself so you'll buy stuff. Though there are a few fashion magazines that are notable and very well done exceptions. Bravo. For my fashion fix I like looking at runway shows on style.com. I also feel that when you follow what's going on in the traditional fine arts world, politics, science and tech advances and media, than it is very possible to predict what is going to be fashionable.

One of the main problem I have is with unskilled airbrushing and Photoshop. Some people are good but some have no idea what they are doing. To often basic anatomy has been ignored and they have done bizarre anatomically incorrect stuff that is very obvious. Like ignoring proper bone placement and doing away with lower eyelids altogether or making skin look plastic. No one looks like that models included so I hate that people compare themselves to an ideal that does not exist. Rant over.

Prior to marriage (and a move of massive proportions), I had a subscription to MORE.

I have had: Victoria (now that they''re back, I''ll renew)
Country Inns (defunct)
Country Cottage
Mode (defunct)
Home & Garden (defunct)

I prefer not to buy the cerebral magazines since I read ''zines for FUN.

I have a weak spot for trash like People (yes, it is) and Us. Love the Us Fashion Police at the back!

For fashion, InStyle is my fav. Vogue is a little too ''haute couture'' for my tastes.

Im surprised to see that no one gets jewelry oriented magizines!

How is practical horseman these days? I used to get it, but had canceled it a while back

Arabian horse world gives the best coverage overall of the arabian world right now, but The Ames of Cedar Ridge Arabians just bought Arabian Horse Times out, so I might resubscribe.

I''m going to look into some of the magazines mentioned here.

Does anyone know of a good magazine for me if I''m going back to school for animal sciences?? Lots of chemistry and bio....

Women''s Health. That''s it. I buy a ton of magazines in general but everything else depends on the month -- if there''s nothing interesting, I don''t buy it.

And SO subscribes to The Hockey News, too.

National Geographic (my favorite!)
InStyle
Money
Kiplinger''s
Consumer Reports
Reader''s Digest

And, somehow we are getting Inc., Outside, and PC Magazine through mystery gift subscriptions. Have no idea from who.

My future MIL gives me Good Housekeeping and Ladies Home Journal when she is done with hers, and my Mom sends me Guideposts when she is done with it.

I get a lot of other ones through the library, too.

Vogue (My absolute favorite. Not as much for the fashion as for the various articles)

Vanity Fair (I like the mix of politics, society, Hollywood..)

Domino (I preferred the magazine Blueprint. Does anyone remember it? It was a Martha Stewart magazine that recently went under, maybe 6 months ago)

Modernism ( I used to subscribe to Dwell but found that I like the magazine Modernism better.)

People (for my weekly gossip fix & their book reviews)

I get a ton of magazines, mostly because I''ve convinced myself and DH that its a lot less expensive than buying them in the grocery store, and I used to do a lot of traveling so it was easy to shove them in my bag and go. OK - its a long list now that I look at a stack (ready for the recycling bin), but here goes:

Town & Country - I will always get this one purely for drooling at all of the jewelry ads, I''ve never seen anything better - Harry Winston, Cartier, Van Cleef, Bulgari, Graff, Chanel fine jewelry, Tiffany, are all regulars in here. Plus, I like the wedding photos at the end and the monthly articles on etiquette, "Social Graces"
Redbook - work/life balance stuff and love the recipes
Food & Wine - again, love it
Gourmet - same
Saveur - got a free subscription in a cooking class and keep renewing
Vanity Fair - love the articles on people, scandals, etc.
O (Oprah) - great articles on relationships, women and recipes regardless of whether or not you''re an O fan
US Weekly - guilty pleasure
Allure - makeup - my other obsession besides bling
Architectural Digest - DH and I are building a house and I wanted to get some ideas
Weight Watchers - inspiring stories, keeps me on track
People - another guilty pleasure
Glamour - keep renewing
InStyle - love it
Southern Living - my newest one

and the one I dropped recently was Cosmopolitan - it seemed like they were recycling the same articles every couple of months...

Forbes
Times
Management
Economist (expired recently)
GCI
Allure

2 artists I totally know what you are talking about - I read the article about the gorillas and it was very affecting

. As they think there are only about 200 mountain gorillas left in that area, killing a whole family group is a big deal. Apparently it was to retaliate against an honest ranger who was shutting down tree cutting/carbonized wood production in the reserve. I know the pictures are shocking, but National Geographic goes into depth so one understands more the full story of the complexities of all the characters, forces involved. I really wish there was a way to give those people an alternative fuel source than the park reserve''s trees, such as by giving them kerosene stoves or something

We used to have Money but going to try Kiplinger''s for a year, see which one I like better

We have a friend who gets Atlantic and Harper''s, part of our lending library.

Yeah-There is some serious suffering going on in that region people and animals too. Just horrible. No words.

On a less sad note I especially love the Architectural Digest Exotic Homes edition that comes out every year. It's my favorite.
