It came with a solution but honestly didn''t seem to remove ANY dirt from my amethyst ring...and only minimally improved my diamond ring. What are some popular mixtures? It holds 2 cups of liquid, if that helps.

try a little windex in the water, just a dab

I use Mr. Clean, a small squirt of Dawn and hot water. I use it everyday so stuff doesn''t get too built up on my rings. You could try soaking them first and using a soft bristle brush to loosen any dirt and then run them through the GemOro.

depending on metal... 1/2 windex/ammonia and 1/2 water with a generous teaspoon of lathered dishsoap does very well for me

I use distilled water to avoid marks.

I've found my sparkle spa doesn't do much on it's own. If I let the ring sit in hot water for a few minutes beforehand it seems to really dislodge the dirt - maybe the dirt needs to be softened first?

My ring is 18K white gold - I don''t know how fast the ammonia would make the rhodium start to disappear?

When you say Mr. Clean, is there a specific kind that there is? Also, I have antibacterial dawn dish soap - should I just be using classic dawn for this?

Hi bsar

I don''t know anything about amethysts but I just wondered if it might be best to ask this question over in Coloured Stones? It could be fine but it would be useful to ask the team over there concerning suitable products to use on an amethyst as I know some coloured stones need separate treatment to diamonds.

I have a 1/2 gallon crest US and I add about a tablespoon of amonia. Cheap as can be.

I wasn''t really concerned about the amethyst part - mainly that it barely helped my diamond ring, so I was wondering what solutions I could use to increase the effectiveness of cleaning not just my other jewelry, but the most important piece, my diamond set :)

... stick it in w. extra ammonia and let it run several (think 5-10) cycles daily for six months, you''ll wear that rhodium right off. It took about that long to get all the rhodium off my 18k wg ring, but I wanted it gone!

Ok, I was just concerned as coloured stones can be fragile and I didn''t want any harm to come to your amethyst.
