What products would you never buy again?

Processed deli meat. It's full of sugar. And one can only guess which bit of the turkey, chicken or beef they're actually using. I didn't even *realize* it was processed meat - my deli slices it from big pieces squished into the shape of a shoulder roast, or something similar.

Keranique shampoo and conditioner for thinning hair. $40 for the pair - dried my hair out like you wouldn't believe. Caused breakage. Never again. Had mostly very good reviews on Amazon, but everyone who complained, complained of the same thing - that it dried out their hair horrendously and caused a lot of breakage.

An Apple iPhone. DH bought me the Apple Max Pro recently. Hate it. Bought it for the slightly larger keyboard - which is the ONLY thing I like about it. Will go back to Samsung Galaxy as soon as this one wears out. This will take a while, tho - phones last me for years and years. I wonder if dropping it in the toilet would help...?

Cosmetics or perfumes tested on animals.

And count me in as someone who loves their Bosch dishwasher!

Oh, that Apple iPhone! ARRRGGGGHHH. My husband has been trying to lure me over for years. I finally went to iPhone last year. I traded in my Galaxy Note at Verizon bought at Samsung (unlocked). Some may not know, but Verizon trade in does not immediately credit the phone turned in. It meters the credits over a year or two.

I cannot wait for those d*** credits to finish applying at Verizon so I can trade in the iPhone for a Samsung. I miss the Samsung camera very much.

This is what happens with my multi tasking brain when I’m doing too much at once Oy to the vey.

I laughed out loud when I read this. I absolutely refuse to even try to multitask. Whenever I used to try, I was 99% sure to screw it up...

Rental car insurance
any souvenirs on a cruise especially jewelry
same goes mall jewelry
non alcoholic beer…. they taste bad and what's the point anyway?

Maybe my experience will persuade you to rethink rental car insurance. Hubby wrecked a brand new Benz van in Paris pulling out of the parking lot. We continued with our vacation worry-free and upon our return, just returned the keys. They said no problem.
On a separate trip, we view a tire and damaged the exterior of the car in Ireland. Zero worries.
Domestically, we still purchase bc of these experiences! And sure enough, anything happens—likes dings, etc.

You may want to check with your insurance company. Mine covers my rental cars and costs me nothing extra. Over the years when I traveled a lot, I saved thousands of dollars in rental car insurance. I only needed the insurance once, and it may have been a little more annoying than just handing the key over, but the money saved over the years made that extra 20 minutes of paper work well worth while...

That is a very wise choice. I looked at the display on board my last cruise, probably thirty or forty years ago, and was shocked to see pale purple amethysts on sale for only $40 per carat. Regular pricing for any such poor quality gems would have been $10 or less at any reputable retailer.

Also, alot of credit cards cover this, or at least the part that your own insurance doesn't cover. A caveat though, some countries are excluded from your own insurance and/or the credit card company. For instance, For Europe, Am Ex excludes Italy, Ireland and Northern Ireland.

I used to think that until the Paris incident happened bc let me tell you, I presented them with my credit card and said oh between my insurance and CC, I am covered. They said, no, no you are not. Luckily my sister had the intuition to say let’s just buy it and get on with it. Best decision ever bc the looming fear that we owed over 10k in repairs if we were not covered would have ruined our vacation.
I do hate paperwork and claims bc we tend to have the worst luck—so I think it is money well spent to save the hassle.

I would carefully check this out if I were going to be in a foreign land. Normally I never rent a car overseas, with the exception of when I took my family to the Grand Caymans and ended up having to drive on the wrong side of the road.

I had no problems, but it could have been ugly if I jumped in the car at night and got confused...

I think when I am traveling abroad I will stick to subways, trains, buses and cabs.

i iangine like lots of countries, accidents invloving tourists make a lot of news here especially if they come from a country that drives on the other side of the road
its especially problamatic on country roads with not a lot of other traffic to remind you as you pull out of interesections

one thing they now discourage is jumping off the plane and right into rental car when one is tired, groggy and jet lagged

Oh it was so worth it for me. At my brother’s wedding a few years ago, someone hit and ran at some point during the stay. We had no idea when and where. I bought the insurance, so just handed in the keys. They didnt say a word.

My husband hit a deer in a rental. That one was expensive. I don’t remember the particulars, except the time involved, phone-calls and drama was not worth the bother. The credit card he paid with had dropped the rental insurance.
He will elect the insurance going forward.

I also always get rental vehicle insurance. The peace of mind of knowing I can walk away from any mishaps with zero hassle is worth a few dozen dollars a day to me. My husband disagrees, he thinks it’s ridiculous to pay extra for something our CCs cover. But I travel way more than him so I pull rank

Things I will never buy again…

Expensive towels. All towels are scratchy without fabric softener, all towels are lovely and soft with fabric softener, turns out I value softness more than drying capacity even in an item whose raison d’etre is to dry me. Shrug.

New brands of makeup and brushes. The amount that I spent on the gobs of stuff that I’ve never used… I know what works for me and my skin and I’m so done with makeup adventures!

Someone else cutting my hair. I can do it myself. Works great. Dyeing my hair - same thing, I’ll just do it myself. I don’t do anything fancy though - long hair is forgiving and henna is kind of impossible to mess up with dark hair.

Liquid body wash. Whenever I heard people say “I use bar soap” I thought to myself… But I like my scrubbies, and bar soaps aren’t scrubby… Well, turns out there’s a real easy solution: You can rub your scrubbie on the soap. Took me a while but I got there :lol-2:

Off brand tampons. Tried it once. The plastic casing wasn’t sturdy enough and it scratched me. Never ever ever again.

Any floss except Cocofloss. IYKYK. (If you don’t know you need to find out.)
… Y’all knew it was coming.

Manicure in a salon - I could do a better job myself!

DK :))

I'm a cotton sheet gal too. Recently bought some off Amazon from California Design. Price was cheap- had low expectation but reviews were good.
BEST sheets ever!
Never going back to microfiber/bamboo etc.
@CHRISTY-DANIELLE I slept on my new sheets last night..They are amazing! They are the perfect weight too..I want to throw out all my sheets and get more. I washed them as soon as I got them and put them on my bed. Thank you for the suggestion!

Oh, I'm so glad you love them! :) just perfect, right?!

I don't use rental car agencies anymore. I started using Turo which is like Airbnb for cars. Absolutely love it.

Old Navy kids' uniform polo shirts. You really get what you pay for with those--they shrink; the printed-on label inside the neck crumbles off after one wash so you can't see the size anymore, they fade quickly, and the sizing is inconsistent between colors and seasons. I buy Lands End now and wait for sales to stock up.

That Cocofloss -- it's a game-changer.

Window cleaner. I make my own with water and a couple drops of dawn in a spray bottle. It never streaks and leaves every thing I use it on so clean. I could never get regular window cleaner to not streak, no matter what I did or what brand I tried.

Thermador dishwasher. Bought one for our remodel and I hate it. Luckily Pacific Sales lets you return it for 90 days. It is getting replaced tomorrow with a Cove.
You have to push a button to start and half the time I push it and it never starts.

I was searching for an old percale thread (no pun intended!) and found this thread instead. The reason is that I wanted to trumpet the percale sheets we bought recently - Crate and Barrel Organic Cotton 400 thread count sheets. They’re heavier than many other brands, reasonably priced, and still crisp after several washings. And perhaps my favorite thing - they are very, very generously cut - practically oversized!

When the weather goes cold I love snuggling under flannel sheets. Now that the temps are rising again though I love percale sheets that are crisp enough to not drape and stick to every little nook and cranny - LOL.

BTW we did buy some linen sheets - from Quince - but they were so thin that we sent them right back. I love linen though (we use linen only linen towels when traveling) and I’m still on the lookout for reasonably priced good linen sheets. And who knows, one of these days when I feel flush again I may spring for a pricey set.

As to what I’d never buy again… when I met my husband, he was using “knit microfiber flannel” ( ;-) ) sheets year round. Yeah, right! Using real adult sheets had converted even that set-in-his-ways tight-er-frugal guy!

Question for you and @tyty333 —exactly what Bosches did you have?

My husband literally just sent me a link for the Bosch dishwasher he wants. It’s

Bosch 800 Series 24" Stainless Steel Built In Dishwasher

Is that a terrible idea?

Sorry @Tonks just seeing this and you may have already bought something. Ours looks like its the SilencePlus 44dba
Bosch (that's what it says on the side). Maybe we should have bought an 800 series . PSers seem to be much happier
with it. The whole reason we were replacing our old one was because it sounded like a train going through our family
room when it ran! I think they make them a lot quieter now. I just googled the 800 series. They are definitely a step up
from what we bought looking at the price difference. That's what I get for being frugal!
