With these ruby and diamond earrings? They have been just sitting in my jewelry box since I got them at an estate sale. They were so cheap that I thought they were paste but turns out they are real!
They are too heavy for my ears- would love to hear some ideas of what you guys would do with it! :)

Sorry, they look kind of blurry.

Do you have a daughter? Maybe mother/daughter rings. Or make a ring and bracelet.

I would reset them into an open-end bangle in East-West orientation.

They are lovely BTW, thanks for sharing! :kiss2:

DK :))

Ooh, love that idea. . . do you think the rubies will be safe? I guess I might be a bit clumsy and worry that I might bang them? Or would the bracelet sit pretty close to my wrist?

Wow, they are beautiful! I get it, I can't handle heavy earrings either. I'm terrible at things like this but maybe make one into a ring, and one into a pendant?

I have thought of that too. . . hmm, a bezel? a halo? so many to choose from!

You could bezel set them to make them more secure.

How about a hinged by-pass bangle so that they sit closer together?

If you do it in an elliptical cuff, you can get it pretty close. Your stones would be relatively safe from harm, as it won't be clunky or bang on stuff. I think it would be gorgeous!

Added picture for example of shape.

How about resetting them in delicate, small dangle earrings in yellow gold? (Or giving them to me so I can set them in delicate, small dangle earrings in yellow gold...)

Keep them in the halos and make them into dangle earrings? Or take them out of the halos?

I have thought about that. . . I talked to one jeweler about doing that locally but they were trying to just find a band without the head to make it into ring for me. . . but it wasn't really possible. I probably need to go custom, right? I wonder what sort of cost that would entail?

If you google "earring back support", "earring lift" you will find different models and they apparently work.
These earrings are beautiful as earrings, maybe worth a try?

What is the mm size of each earring? They would be the most awesome bypass ring.
I also like the elliptical cuff idea.

I almost always prefer something where I, as the wearer, can see and appreciate it frequently, so I'm usually not so keen on pendants.

They rubies are approx 7 by 5mm, as best as I can tell with my daughter's ruler. lol. I am definitely more of a ring lover, necklace second and then bracelet. I guess I don't know about a cuff. . . I realize that I don't usually ask my husband to get me bracelets/cuffs in general. I think because I am on the computer and such, the bracelets tend to get in the way. . . I wonder if I were to maybe have the ruby suspended on a delicate gold chain, set east/west, bezeled, I might wear it?

What is your ring size? Bypass can be set with the stones either East West or North South but I don't know how much finger real estate you have. 7 x 5 mm is a good size!

Hi @chrono, my ring finger size is 4.5 and My middle is 6. Is that enough?

I was contemplating just doing a simple bezel setting in gold, having the ring set east west like this one

Size it for my middle finger so my daughters can eventually wear them too. Their sizes are already bigger than mine at ages 13 and 15! Lol.
Any recommendations for a good, easy to work with jeweler who won’t charge me a ton?Daniel M is mentioned a few times in some threads.

I am presuming 2 daughters, so how about keeping them as 2 halo-ed ruby rings?

Wow great find! If you don't want to invest a lot in the project I'd say just remove the nack posts, add rings to a top post to make them earring charms to be worn behind the ear with studs. Or, turn them into one lavalier style necklace. Forgive my terrible Photoshop.

Those custom settings are gorgeous, it would be a shame to waste them.

i just got a quote to keep them as is and just to add gold shanks to turn them into rings. Definitely a possibility there!

That’s so cool how you did that! :mrgreen2:
looks so pretty.

My thought is to try to preserve as much of the current setting as possible (aka keep the halo). It means less cost on your end (saves the cost of a bezel) and most of the setting is saved and reused (no extra diamond melees sitting around).

The lariat style pendant suggested above sounds good too.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and ideas!!! I am so grateful for this community and appreciate the advice!
I decided to keep the halo and just convert them into rings. Daniel M has given me a pretty great quote on adding a shank to the earrings. Is he pretty reputable to go with?

TIA everyone again!

Daniel M had been pretty responsive and pleasant to work with so far this year. I think some members had some issues with him a couple years ago, but it looks like he has been making a fresh start for himself.
