What size eternity band with a ~1.4 carat solitaire

All,

I'm having trouble deciding what size eternity band to go with for my 1.4 carat solitaire engagement ring. I've tried on a 10 pointer (1.4 carats) as well as a 15 pointer (1.8 carats) and I'm torn. I'm not sure if the 15 pointer will overwhelm the engagement ring or the 10 pointer won't be enough?

Should I go with something in between?

I've attached a picture of the engagement ring - it's a classic 6 prong solitaire in a Tiffany setting.

Please let me know your opinions - I really need help making this decision! :)

I bet the 15 pointer will be gorgeous!

I vote for the ten pointer to make sure your gorgeous center stone POPS!

This is usually more old-fashioned than I go, but somewhere along the line I read the "rule" that an eternity should be the same weight or less than the center stone of a solitaire. For me, at least, those proportions seem pretty spot-on. That said, rules were made to be broken - if *you* like the 1.8, rock it!

I vote for the 10-pointer. I think thicker eternities take away from the center stone too much.

The smaller band. I find that wedding bands that are a lot larger than the width shank of the e-ring don't look very good because they start to overpower the diamond.

Both sound like they would be perfect and look amazing with your beautiful solitaire! HAve you tried any eternities on to see which size works best IRL? Sometimes I get tempted by the "bigger is better" mentality but when I try something on... turns out it isn't always the case!

If it were my ring, I'd be inclined to go with the 10 pointers so that the 1.4 ct RB stands out - its looks perfect in the 6 prong Tiffany and I'd hate to see it be overwhelmed by too much competition.

Can you get to a jewelry store to see a few on your hand?

I think both would be pretty but agree with others that maybe go try different sizes on to see what you like with it.

I agree!

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I have tried on both and I think I'm leaning toward the 10 pointer. It seems to make a nicer set with the ring. I plan on trying on a 12 pointer before finalizing my decision, though.

Do I need to be concerned about the eternity band scratching the e-ring setting? I read somewhere that can happen.

I vote for 5 pointers or less, personally. So even 3s. Something no wider than the shank of your eng ring. That way you're just accenting your diamond and not competing.

Go to the store and try on the different sizes. Take pictures at arms length and up closer so you can go away and think about it without relying on your memory. Yes, you'll need a small 1mm or so spacer to go between so the girdles on the eternity ring don't scratch the side of your engagement ring.
You will have to decide on the size you like. I like my 15 pointer eternity with my three stone engagement ring (.95ct centre), and ame likes a much smaller eternity with your solitaire. It is simply personal aesthetic preference.

I had a band with 10 pointers that I felt were too big for my 1.6 ct. diamond. So my vote is for 8 point stones max. A 15 point band is a standalone band to me.

I'd go for less than 10-pointers too, probably 5-6 points at most, but I agree that you should go try and see what appeals to you the most.
