What size setting for this stone?

I'm going to set the silver grey spinel in a silver setting (east - west) but was just wondering, as it is:

7.2 x 6.1 (3.9 height)

would I get an 8 x 6 or 7 x 5 ?

My benchperson does wonders and can somehow fit many stones into not quite right settings.

Oh, just wondering - do you all consider this a good price? I'm having a 2.5 ct. amethyst put into a (14K) yellow gold bezel pendant for $150? Being it's all handmade and the price of gold, this seems a quite reasonable/very good price, yes?

The setting price seems a bit high at $150, but it depends on the jeweller and your city. I've paid $50 and I've paid $180... guess which worked out better??? lol!!

As for the setting - I hope your bench is a good one with the miracles he's promising (Lol!) but I'd think bigger may be better in this case. One of those dimensions is not going to work, no matter which setting you purchase. But... there may be others with better advice and more experience than I have.
