Work? Work is overated..why work? LOL
I have a Psychology degree, but have done nothing with it..Hmmmm
I sell skincare/Spa products, anti-aging products on a part time basis.
I contemplated working for my husband, then laughed, and shrugged that off quickly
I enjoy raising the kids, working out every moring, just relaxing in the sun, then spending winters driving from one hockey arean to another every night/every weekend!
Maybe when the kids are NOT so dependant on me, I will go back to work, For now..I am LOVING being retired! (and thankful that I am fortunate enough to have a partner who makes more than enough to take care of our family, and that I don't have that pressure to be employed)
Girl you move it on up, to the to--op to your deluxe appartment in the sky! Girl you should have been in some sort of competitive sports!!!!!!

I do recall a similar thread a little while back..

I am a stylist. I''m in my 3rd year of my bachelor of design (styling & Creative Direction major).
I assist a freelance stylist on various jobs for Australian Vogue and other publications.
I do smaller scale jobs independently (local mags)...

I love it. The industry (and people) can be a bit impossible sometimes... but I love it. It''s my passion.

COOOL! I am taking your advice on rings and settings seriously!!!!!!!!!!

I am a pharmacy technician and a full-time nursing student. I will be nearly 45 next year when I graduate, I plan on working for a hospital for 5 years while I pay off my loans and hopefully obtain a Masters (so I can be an Educator), then from age 50 to 60 work for Hospice, and after that when my body is wore out I can be a nursing educator. I did volunteer work for hospice when I was a housewife and always admired what those nurses did. My ex-husband wouldn''t let me work outside the home, and let me tell you that my world has opened up considerably since the divorce. Being a housewife is a short path leading to depression. (Plus, I wasn''t allowed to buy jewelry and he never bought me any -- but I made up for lost time in that department). If I ever get married again, he will not have control over me.

I just finished my B.A in Interior design from San Diego State University. The job outlook is not good right now so I''m currently enjoying my role as a housewife.

Hey, if you need to get some designing in, you can come over and do my half remodeled home, with nothing but white walls right now.

I had to nix the entire process for my daughters wedding, but I need to figure out what to do with the bathroom and colors in a very big way. I can''t figure out sinks, and faucets and tile and blah, blah, blah...too many choices. I''m just 5 miles from SDSU and I will pay.
9.gif
35.gif
Oh my gosh, I would love to help you! I would get to meet another pricescoper AND help with your interior!
OMG, if you would do that, you would be about the most blessed thing to have entered my life in a long time.
30.gif

And I would be eternally grateful...I knew that if I was patient enough, the universe would present me with the right person at the right time.
35.gif
Let me know when you''re ready and we can meet up
1.gif
Anytime after my daughters wedding on July 25th. I have taken 3 or 4 weks vacation in order to get this house situation resolved. We can meet wherever you like. Starbucks, Casa de Pico...

I'm a senior auditor for a major company out in Miami. I have a BBA (major accounting) from the University of Miami and a masters in finance from Nova Southeastern University.

I love my job. My boyfriend does not...I guess its hard living with an auditor
2.gif

I'm currently working on my motivation to go through with the CPA. But after 7 years in school...I don't want to go back LOL

I'll play! I'm an Art Director at a stationery and invitation company. I research trends and come up with new products every year (not to mention play with pretty pictures all day), and my company pretty much dominates the invitation industry.

FI works full time at a company that makes energy cells for the government (for the outrageous benefits) and part time at home as a sculptor and mask maker, by commission.

Littlelysser! Oh holy schmoly. You just confirmed my greatest fear that I've made an awful mistake about coming to law school.

I was a CPA before I started school and saw the same things you saw while practicing at a Big Four Accounting Firm.

The plan now is to either become a career counselor at a Law School, a University Tax Professor or to work for the IRS after graduation. Likely end career though? A SAHM.

1.gif

ETA: A SAHM and a Cavalier breeder! SO ADORABLE!!!
30.gif

I also felt discouraged reading not only littlelysser's post but also the numerous articles about the saturation in the legal field and the discontent among attorneys. Although, I think many people who go to law school don't really know what it's like to be a lawyer and don't fully investigate the profession end up regretting their decision. Some people are eternal students and like learning about the law but not necessarily practice it. I worked around several attorneys growing up and spoke with attorneys and judges prior to entering law school so I had an idea about what it was like to practice law. I also realized that if I wanted to be marketable and be able to have greater control over where I worked, I would need a specialization. I hope to work for a few years in a firm then transition into corporate healthcare legal work. Let me know what you end up doing.

It wasn't my intent to scare anyone! I'm sorry if I did. Just sharing my experience!
17.gif

For what it is worth, I researched my decision to go to law school quite thoroughly before I went, but no one could have prepared me for the pressure and stresses I felt. It is one thing to hear or read about others experience in the abstract, totally different to do it in real life.

Brynn - Despite how I feel about practicing law, I really don't regret going to law school. I loved what I did and it was very rewarding to graduate at the top of my class and publish my comment on the Commerce Clause (I always loved the Commerce Clause...what a dork, I know). Very academically rewarding. I also moved to the city where I continue to live, made some amazing friends and if I hadn't gone, I wouldn't have moved to the city where I met my DH, who is one of the best people in the whole wide world. So yeah...for whatever that is worth, I don't regret it. Now, I do regret the $750 I have to pay in student loan payments each month...but c'est la vie!

There are happy lawyers out there! I just don't really know any of 'em!

Littlelysser,
For what''s its worth, I really appreciated your comments. Where I work, almost everyone is a lawyer (except for me and a few others) and it has made me question my own academic interests...that is, did I dismiss the idea of a JD too quickly? I don''t think so, but when you are surrounded by lawyers, it makes you wonder. So, thank you for sharing your thoughts.

My degree is in Environmental Design, which is a fancy term for architecture. I worked in the field for nearly 10 years specializing in interior design. Now I''m working on a degree in PATIENCE since becoming a stay at home mom with my 18 month old daughter, Lily

Yes you are!!!

And you will be the epitome of Grace under Fire. I could never do it. I always admired their ability to retain their composure. I can''t imagine a better personality for the position, than yours.

SanDiegoLady,
Thank you for doing what you do. And belated congratulations!

You're a sweetie.. I'm really excited about all of it. The officer I did a ride along with last night said I should consider being an officer but I'm too old and I honestly don't think I could contain a 200 pound 20yo let alone run after one. lol I think I'm suited for something else.. so.. I'm working towards it :)

Nice try chicka. But I know you could run after a 200 lb 20-yr old.

But I'll never tell your hubby. Gosh, I am in a randy mood tonight. I need a 200 lb 40-50 year old.[/i]

So cool seeing what everyone does! I am a voice teacher at a conservatory during the day and an opera singer at night and in between. I love my job!

Really though, I''m working on my degree in Interior Design with a minor in Technology. My favorite part of ID is AutoCad drafting and I would love to draft for an architecture firm around Dallas when I graduate.

I''m a nuclear engineer. I do safety analysis for power plants. And I''ve been going to school part time for the last four years to get my masters degree. I just have to finish this thesis...

Littlelysser, if you ever feel like explaining me the Commerce Clause, or ESPECIALLY the Dormant Commerce Clause, I could so use a tutorial. Despite spending three weeks talking about the CC and another two on the DCC, my Con Law teacher somehow never told us what either of them meant...

So, obviously I''m a law student
37.gif
. This summer, I''m doing an internship with a federal agency and it''s actually pretty awesome. I do know happy lawyers! The work isn''t nearly as sexy as the type of stuff LC does, and most of them will never make a million a year or have their names splashed in a newspaper, but they''re able to go home to their families at night and take vacations. And the compensation isn''t what I''d consider awful, either. I''m pretty sure that''s the direction I''m going to go. I''m probably going to work for some big firm next summer, if they''ll have me, just to confirm that it''s not what I want to do (and hopefully make some money in the meantime!) but I really don''t intend to work at one after I get my JD.

I also love law school...most of the time...but even after doing research beforehand and a full year of school I''m not 100% sure I want to "be a lawyer."
20.gif

it could.. but my partner and i are going to personally train others to manage it for us.. and we just collect the management fees/partial incentive fee

Con law was the bain of my existence last semester!
23.gif
Supplements were especially helpful there. My school crammed it into one semester so we were so rushed no one had a clue what was going on most days. I have friends who are working for the government this summer and I''ve heard mixed reviews but I know some positions will get your students loans paid off for performing public interest work. I don''t want to work at a mega firm either, but my dream job requires experience so I will most likely be grinding it out 80 hours/week for a few years post-graduation.
