Just thought a little fun survey/get to know the ladies on the board.

I thought about this when my best friend announced her Caribbean themed wedding idea, including a steel drum band. I think the idea is awesome…but so not what I ever pictured her doing.

Then I started thinking about my own wedding style…I don’t care much for the ceremony. I would be happy with just us and a JP on a beach somewhere. But the reception…now that I want to be a huge party. My FF agrees with the party but to my surprise he wants a traditional ceremony.

Anyway…what’s your style?

Fun, hip, wear flip-flop wedding?
Black-tie?
Wedding…what wedding? LOL

I am all about a traditional ceremony, and a BAD ASS reception.

It will be a traditional style, and black tie. I just want to make sure there''s tons of topshelf booze and amazing food. I want fun things to do while at the wedding. Like a martini station, a photo booth, stuff like that. I just want it to the coolest party that someone has ever been to.

SO and I decided we''re naming our tables rather than numbering them. We''re thinking about making each table a place in the world we want to visit, and the centerpieces would (tastefully) reflect that. I don''t want it to look like putt-putt golf or anything! lol.

Well seeing as our tentative date is October 31, 2009 - you can guess we are going to do a little bit of Halloween in our wedding - more specifically Nightmare Before Christmas. If you can find a way to envision classy and Halloween good job, because you are right on par with what we are thinking

We both want to have FUN with our day. We do not want stuffy, formal, uptight but we don''t want backyard ho-down either so we figured Halloween would be the perfect date to create a good balance between fun and classy.

Ideally we will have a church wedding and a garden reception which as the evening progresses move under a marquee: relaxed but formal. It will also most likely be a meshing of both our cultures which should be interesting.

Sad thing is I found my dream venue that had all of the above and the most luscious surroundings but they close in December this year as they have been sold and do not know if they will continue to offer weddings on site, I was and am still gutted

Sorry to threadjack, but I just want to say that I am head over heels in love with this idea!! I think halloween is one of those holidays where everybody can just have fun...plus it''s in the fall and it''s beautiful and I just love it. I think the direction you are going...classy, but festive, is perfect. A halloween wedding was my first idea, though I sort of forgot about the classy and just wanted "fun". I wanted everybody to dress up and I found this dressmaker in France who made exact replicas of Scarlet O''Hara''s barbeque dress using this incredible (and insanely expensive) fabric with a fabric stamp of the exact design. DH completley vetoed my idea, though--he''s lucky I didn''t show up in that dress, anyway. Sorry, I''m rambling, but just wanted to say I love this idea and think you guys will have a blast planning it!!

I'm all about red, ivory, black and gold, romance up the butt, candles, winter, modern fairytale. And I'm soooo excited for it too!

And no, it won't be cheesy...I hope.

Ours will probably be slightly untraditional, artsy, and a little quirky. We''ve tentatively picked our ceremony venue: http://www.theclaycenter.org/about/bookyourevent/spacesandrates.aspx It''s the space about half-way down the page, the Benedum Grand Lobby.

I want it to be very put together and elegant, but still have our (dorky and quirky) personalities reflected. Should be interesting!

That doesnt'' sound cheesy at all, it sounds lovely! I love red for weddings, it always looks so beautiful.

Alicia that place looks awesome! Love the swirly floor.

And thanks!

Extremely romantic for sure with flower petals, candles, Id love a violin to play for the processional and recessional.....something that makes you feel like you are in a beautiful dream and floating in the clouds. I would love for the wedding to be outdoors on a summer evening (but that worries me because what if it rains?) The reception would follow indoors. Dancing. Everyone must dance or go home. lol! I have been to too many weddings where nobody dances and thats just crazy.

So for me its all about dreamy romance, romance, romance.

Alicia I love your location.

We also picked our location tentatively. It is the Spanish Monastary in Miami. I love the place. Originally when I wanted a small ceremony with a big party, we were going to get married in front of the Alter and then join everyone in the gardens under tents.

But my SO wants a traditional ceremony. He strongly feels that with everything we''ve been through, all the learning and growing, we deserve to be a bride and groom. So now (if we can book), the ceremony will be in The Chapel and the reception will either be in the Cloisters or the garden.

I must admit...I''m looking forward to being a bridezilla =)

On a side note, my best friend is considering going with a catering service where the chef goes to the guests table and prepares the meal for them! How cool is that??

That venue is absolutely beautiful! It''s so charming and romantic! I looove it!

That''s super cool about the chef coming around, but hopefully there is more than one! It seems like that would take forever.

That''s the same thing I said. She''s having 60 guests...I''m thinking maybe 3. We will see.

Slightly artsy, sleek, modern. All vibrant shades of blue with black, silver and white. In all honesty I have it all planned out in my head. The setting (hopefully) will be here- in the Fireplace room because I grew up a mile away and have been getting my hair done at the salon there since I was 2.

Here''s an inspiration collage I made not too long ago.

lol Looks like Im not the only one with all these thoughts going through my head!

I absolutely LOVE every shade of blue you have there...and if you don''t mind, I forwarded the pic to my best friend. She''s looking for colors and needs some inspiration. I am so not the artistic kind at all and don''t have a single creative bone in my body (HE will be choosing colors).

Here''s the venue I love... it''s no Fairmont, but that costs $40000 to rent, sooo no.

When I was younger I always dreamed of a gorgeous gown and a big gradiose wedding.
But I just don''t feel that way any more. I''ve been a bridesmaid and I''ve seen first hand how much stress it is and personally - it''s not for me. And I certainly don''t want to have my wedding be something where I''m running around trying to accomodate other peoples wishes. (I hear about that happening A LOT!)
The other thing I don''t want is to start of my marriage in debt.

I do however want to have some kind of a ceremony. I was thinking of rather than spending the $$ on a more traditional wedding with all the fam and friends, to rather get married in a simple ceremony on the honeymoon! Like Hawaii! And if a few friends can show up and make it a vacation for themselves in coordination with our ceremony then FANTASTIC! We''d love to have them along and would probably take whoever was able to make it out to dinner or something.

I''m also not a religious person so I don''t have the pressures of that or from my family to get married in a traditional way. And my mother is deathly afraid of flying so unless we chose to have the wedding back East - she wouldn''t even consider attending. Actually 90% of my family is back East so it would be a huge pain for them to come out here (CA) and it would be a huge pain for me to try to plan my wedding all the way across the country!

Anyway....long post.. but that''s the way I''m choosing to go! Not that I don''t love a beautiful traditional wedding! They''re fantastic!

Lol. No big deal fieryred. Glad to be of assistance!

I forgot to mention that the wedding stuff pictured above will probably only happen if my mom is around to witness it (and I''d like to keep the guest list to around 30-but will likely go up to 50). If not, we''re going to Vegas and only inviting a handful of people-mostly close friends and family.

BF and I have talked about this stuff a lot. And I''ve thought about it a lot...obviously.

Fiery - has your friend seen the movie In Her Shoes? The movie is not very good, but there is a Caribbean themed wedding at the end that is simple and beautiful.

No I haven''t...but guess what I''m watching this weekend......LOL

Thanks for the head up. She and I are exchanging a bunch of emails with pictures and color ideas. We''ll def. catch the movie :)

SO and I are obsessed with luxurious and traditional things, so our wedding is going to be a bit out there.

For the ceremony we want to have it in a church (possibly a cathedral) with organ music the whole time (our friend, conveniently, is a very very good organist) and then we are contemplating having the entire mass in Latin (as in ancient Roman Catholic church stuff). It would be pretty insane if we actually go with that, but we'll see, haha. He's already working on picking out the organist music (Bach, etc. He's really into classical music, my SO). Very formal and black tie.

Then for the reception we want things to get a bit rowdy. We are both of German descent are we are obsessed with the culture, so we want to have lots of beer and polka music, haha. We are going to theme the tables by places we've traveled together or locations that are significant to our relationship instead of numbering them (I think Lauren mentioned she's doing this too!). And then we are thinking of busting into a polka halfway through our first dance, something along the lines of the song "Roll out the Barrel" which is basically has lyrics that say, now it's time to get wasted. Hahaha. It'll be a blast!

Oh yeah and I think the theme of the reception might be the Black Forest, because that is where we are going in a week, and I think a certain event might occur there...at least I'm keeping my fingers crossed! So, the centerpieces will have branches incorporated into them, etc).

I LOVE your inspiration collage! It's similar to what I was thinking except I was leaning a bit more to a warmer blue. But it's gorgeous. I was like ooh, I should show this to SO to let him see what I have been describing. But then I realized that might be a bit much, even considering we've talked about wedding stuff already.

As for specifics, I'm really not sure yet. I'd like something 'nice'. Not necessarily formal, but I want it to be classy and tasteful. I'd like to have really good food, good cake/dessert, good drinks, etc. Like someone else mentioned, I really want it to be a fun, enjoyable party for the guests.

Or I might just go get married on a beach like we keep talking about as well. It's still totally up in the air. Much of it depends on when he does propose, what our finances look like at that point and what time of year we marry.

shades of pink and black on may 16th in the afternoon in a nice big church. i don''t think that''s really a "theme" but it will be simple and fun.

fall is my favorite season, especially when it starts and the air is just beginning to get crisp. my bf and i are in love with a little inn on the ocean and we would like to have a fall wedding (sept or early october) right on the waterside. the colors i picture are rich brown cosmos mixed with soft angelic sunset colors like peach, pewter touches to cool the warmth down, and hints of ocean blues in the linens and menswear. overall, it will be simple, elegant, and nature inspired (so lots of flowers!).

I want an outdoor ceremony in April (driest month according to weather.com) on grass, overlooking the beach so were not right in the sand. I want the reception room to have a lot of windows overlooking the ocean and just a simple, chic, beach vibe... I want a reggae band as well as a dj... :) Shades of kelly green, seafoam, beige, and white.... and I want pink peonies and white hydrangea's for flowers....I cant wait! :)

Ooooh, fun topic!

We''d have a small, beachy wedding. Both of us feel most at home around the water, so ideally we''d have a wedding at the beach. I''d like to keep it small, but his family is huge and I love them all (okay, with about, 2 exceptions), so I have a feeling I''ll be happy if we could keep it down to 100!

When I was little, I imagined the huge princess wedding, but it just doesn''t fit my relationship. Food-wise, I would love to do a tapas-inspired thing, with bites of our favourite foods spread all around the reception. That''ll probably run into the $$$$$, but I can dream! And the cake would be light and fruity, kind of a lemon with fruity filling (raspberry, mango, etc.).

Colour-wise, I''d love to go with blues and raspberries, or oranges and greens, or....basically anything that inspires tropical fantasies.

LOL. M&Ms--that certainly sounds unique, but also really fun!

We will probably have an outdoor ceremony--we've talked about doing it on the Northern California Coast because of the beautiful redwood forests. I'm not big on formal flower arrangements, so chances are we'll go with something like wildflowers for the bouquet (knowing me I'll get all my flowers from trader joes! LOL) Basically the idea for the ceremony is naturalistic.

The reception will revolve more around food and wine (bf and I are both HUGE foodies!) I'd love to find a unique venue that had some quirky charm (read: I would never want to have it in a hotel ballroom) and I really want to be able to bring in our own food & wine. The basic theme for the reception is "Fun!". We just want it to be an awesome party.

Haha thanks ladypirate! Your ideas sound wonderful as well! I think we have the same goals for the reception.
25.gif

Intimate, but very traditional. Ceremony, cocktail hour and reception in three different gardens on the grounds of a museum. I''ve even found a priest to marry us outdoors. We''re more into the menu than anything else. No flowers beyond the bouquets. He and his brothers will be in military dress uniforms, my best friends in black cocktail length dresses. I have six of my military friends comming in dress uniform to do the arch.

I''ve never been into big weddings and he doesn''t see the point of a lavish affair, so there will be 30 guests max. That gives us much more freedom with the budget when it comes to videography, photography, location, attire, food and honeymoon. We''re also probably going to get married on a Thursday either before Good Friday or Veteran''s Day as most of the people invited are military and will be off the next day anyway.
