I want one of those wire ring things that can hold a loose stone so you can see what it would look like in a ring/on your hand. But I have no idea what its called? I'm sure I'm being thick.... also where do I get one???

Diamond or gemstone holder. The safest (best) ones to use are the gemstone tweezers though, preferably the coated type to prevent slipping. Sure, you can't "wear" the stone like the ring variety but you can place it over your finger for a realistic feel/look.

PLEASE be very careful when using these on coloured gemstones as they can scratch softer stones. They are perfectly fine for the more durable diamonds but have been known to nick garnets and even spinels, when you attempt to use them to pick up/hold the stones.

I have on of those retractable stone holders and I chipped a stone BIG time using it. Thank god it was just a CZ but now I don't use it anymore after that!

I won't let those things anywhere near my stones. Far too dangerous. IIRC, Harriet chipped an amazing red spinel with one.

Proper gem tweezers are the best - I don't even recommend the self-locking ones as they make it very easy to ping stones across the room.

And if not placed just right in the holder, it can become a "gemstone cannon."
