Hello,

First time poster here. I'm just curious of a real value on my ring. I bought it in two parts in 2010. The diamond had a retail of $14,999 for which I only paid $9047.10 as the manager of the store is a friend and sold it to me at his cost. It's a Tolkowsky 1.51ct, SI1, I, ideal round cut, excellent, excellent, IGI cert.

The ring is a Ritani endless that is no longer made which makes me happy as it's almost a one of a kind. It is 18kt white gold with 0.98 total ct weight with 0.11ct each pear shape stones with 101 (102 total with center) total that are all D-F, VS2 stones. It had a retail of $5495 for which I paid $3500.

In 2011 it was appraised at $20,049. At the moment as prices have gone up it is insured with cert for $21,150.

Just curious of a real value.

Thanks.

Oops , also 7.38-7.42x4.53mm.

Most pricescope vendors deal in GIA or AGS stones, so I personally am not too familiar with IGI stones.

with that said, I found a few approx. 1.5 ct, H SI clarity stones graded "ideal" by IGI on james allen, and they ran about 9500, so I mean, best guess? maybe 9k for the stone?

Setting? Depending on who makes it, in 18k? probably 3.5-5k? I mean its a band and some people will pay more for that. [url-http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-specials/closeout-jewelry/ritani/26QQ1/]here[/url] a similar one on sale right now, in platinum, for 5700...

Im sure some tradespeople will be able to give you better information on IGI stones... but I don't know, Id expect to pay retail today probably 13-15k?

less of course if you were to sell it yourself.

lovely ring :wavey:

With An IGI cert, probably less than you are insuring it for.

To give you an idea ...here is a H&A J SI2 stone graded by AGSL. The price of this stone is $9300 but your stone was graded by IGI, so my guess would be $7,500 max based on the fact that your stone will not grade higher than J SI2 by GIA or AGSL.

btw; your friend is B.S ing you about selling the stone to you at cost... Rule #1 ... :read: never buy diamonds from a friend whose in the diamond business.

i promise it wasn't BS. could that dimaond go for less somewhere else? maybe. could my friend a manager go lower than $9047.10 at a JBR Sterling store without being fired from the district GM or Sterling asking WTF? no way! JBR, KAY, Jarod etc arent doing more than 39% off retail unless youre buddy buddy and even then he had to explain he told me. the computer showed that cost was his cost. and i was fine with that.

What ever you wanna believe ... If he really paid $9047 for the IGI stone then he should have been fired a long time ago.

Considering diamond prices really spiked in 2011, I am guessing that it's maybe possible, but you still could have gotten a better deal somewhere else.

You're overinsuring it by at least $7000, maybe more, in my inexpert opinion. With a custom plat mount and a 1.5 AGS J/SI2 stone you're looking at roughly a 13k ring, and what you would be buying would be better, at least diamondwise.

Even in today's market for an extra $550 you can own this beautiful AGS graded stone..

I've always loved that setting.

You're getting a somewhat "dash of cold water" introduction to Pricescope, but I hope, since you are inquiring more info about your ring, it helps you figure things out.
If you love the diamond and the setting, just be happy.

If you are on the fence about it, this is a great place to learn more.
