Stealing Kenny's thread on shoes. I'm more of a handbag person and rationalize that a good purse can last a lifetime. I'm getting the itch to buy a LV but feeling too guilty. So what's the most you've spent on a purse/bag?

I'm not really one for *expensive* purses per se, mostly because I just head to the Coach Outlet when I need a new bag. I don't think I've spent over $150 for a nice leather bag in a few years. But, I had been drooling over this Coach bag for nearly 4 months when I decided to pull the trigger. The original price was $999, and I waited for it to hit the Outlet, but it never showed up. I eventually found it new on ebay for ~$200 IIRC, and I was so pleased with myself that I had *saved* so much money on it, and that it was really as lovely as I had imagined it to be.

So, yeah, the most expensive bag I have ever bought cost $200.

I am also more of a purse person. There's a lot of purses I want, but I only have a couple designer purses. The most expensive is $2,250 + tax. I want my next purse to be a Chanel.

Nice! Too bad you can''t pick up an LV for me while you''re in France

. I was there last summer and couldn''t pull the trigger. Still regretting it.

$550 but it ended up being returned to Neiman''s after I saw it on sale at Bloomie''s -so I really only ended up paying 3 something for it. I''m lusting after a small Birkin, and have not so subtly hinted that would make a fine gift next year when DH graduates law school.

I''d love a birkin too--does the small one come with a smaller price tag?

It''s too out of reach for me sadly. I knew there''s an Hermes sample sale in NYC but I don''t think Birkins are included.

Nice! What brand was the most expensive one?

Do you still use it a lot?

Just under $600 for a Coach that I used for a whole year without wrecking. I usually change every 6 months.

Right now, I think that my most expensive purse is about $350. I have been using it on a daily basis since Christmas of 05. I do have a burberry tote that is about $450 I think.

However, right now I am on the fence regarding a baby bag which would top my list at $648.

This beauty:

I have a Chanel and 2 Balenciagas. Chanel was the most expensive at around $2500. Balenciagas were somewhere between $1500-$2000 each, I can''t remember exactly.

It was a Fendi Spy. They don''t make that style anymore, and I haven''t use it since M was born. Now it''s just diaper bag for me.

I would love to buy one for myself but the way I treat bags... it wouldn''t last a week. My mother on the other hand makes sure they are in mint condition so she got the Chanel bag as a present.

About 4000.00 for the bag. It was a Chanel dark silver reissue 2.55 with the mademoiselle lock I think?

OMG.

Glad I'm a guy.
Glad I ain't got no wife.

We may be able to work something out.

Mer - That diaper bag is gorgeous!

Most expensive for me I think was a classic chanel med. flap. DH bought it for me as a complete surprise the first Christmas we were married. I had been lusting after that bag forever, but couldn''t justify the price. It meant a lot that DH bought it for me because he does not believe in designer anything and I am sure he about choked when he paid for the bag.

The other possibility is a white Versace that my dad surprised me with one Christmas. My dad is a Levis and baseball cap kind of guy. But he knows that I love handbags, so out of the blue he went into Versace one day and bought me this bag. I had never seen it before, but it is the most beautiful bag in the world and it is extra special to me because I know how much love went into buying it.

So, my most expensive bags were gifts. Most expensive bag I bought for myself was probably $1000 or so. I have a couple Marc Jacobs, a couple Pradas and a couple of LVs. But I always choose classic styles so that they''ll last for years, I can''t justify that kind of money on a bag that will be "last season''s bag" next year.

Like I said on the shoe thread though, these bags aren''t getting much use right now with the baby. No way I am putting dirty diapers, bottles, etc in these bags. Now that I have her, I think I am going to have a much harder time justify spending $$$ on bags when it could go to her college account. Although all my friends say she''s a lucky girl since all the bags (and the diamonds) will be hers one day!

I think the most I ever spent was $60 and that was over ten years ago in high school! I usually buy a $20 or $30 purse every few years and have a small collection. There''s a brown bag I''ve had for a few years that was around $20... people compliment me on it all the time and ask me what brand it is lol.

I''m not very brand-conscious I guess. I think there are a lot of really cute purses at random stores and even at Target!

But, if you like the LV purse a lot and can afford it, go for it!! I definitely don''t feel guilty about splurging on things from time to time.

I love huge bags, so I can rarely get them too cheap. Luckily I also dislike a lot of hardware, so it keeps me away from some more expensive designers. I do my best to buy my bags on consignment or off ebay when I can. My most expensive was $500.

My most expensive one so far is the size 35 Bleu de Prusse Birkin ($9520.00 USD plus 6% sales tax).

My most expensive handbag is a coach leather bag that my mom bought me. We walked into the store and she said... "pick one". And I went

. So it cost about 800. The most expensive one I bought for myself retailed for about 750. But I worked there at the time so I got the 65% discount! Normally my purses run in the 200-300 dollar range. Although I haven''t bought a new purse in awhile... hmmmmm

Maybe $120? I''m not really a handbag person. I''m willing to pay enough to get something quality and made of real leather, I hate fake leather handbags, but otherwise I don''t care about designers or anything.

Madam, you take the prize so far for most expensive bag! What a beautiful bag!!

Jane Birkin would be pround, hehe. Next time maybe buy it in Paris to avoid taxes...probably would pay for the trip!

The most expensive purse that I have bought was only $300 or so - a new Coach white leather Carly bag. And even that, I had a 25% coupon for

The most expensive purse I own is about $800 - a LV purse - but that was a gift from my mom.

ETA: Oh wait, maybe it's my Rebecca Minkoff Nikki (which I adore). But I got it slightly used from a purse forum member for about $270?

For me, it was my Bottega Veneta Cabat.

I think it would be either my Luella or my Michaels Kors - both were around $1200.

I have 1 Coach bag that was about $90 (at the outlet, of course).

I tend to get bored with purses easily, so I''ve yet to buy anything extravagant.

Madam B, I adore your Hermes handbags! They are absolutely fabulous!!!

I think $800 something... which is ridiculous considering my age! I don''t even want to think about how much my entire collection costs...

Ten grand for a purse?
I am shocked.
I had NO idea they could get this expensive?

Why do they cost so much?
Solid gold hardware?
The zipper teeth are real diamonds?
Leather from cows from Mars?

Seriously, can the stitching be that much better on a $10,000 purse than a $1,000 purse?
Is it mostly for the name? (Nothing wrong with that)
Even Tiffany is only 20 to 50% more than other diamonds, not 10 times the price.

I'm not criticizing or attacking.
Educate me please.

Kenny, don''t question Hermes!

30 years ago I was in the Navy and passing through Paris on vacation.

I bought a bar of Hermes soap.
It was the only thing I could afford from that brand.

That bar of soap had the most heavenly scent I have ever smelled.
I still remember it and think about it.

BTW how is Hermes pronounced?
What does it rhyme with?
